Families of 1983 Marines bombing sue bank in NY

Families of victims of a deadly 1983 bombing of U.S. Marines in Lebanon filed a lawsuit on Wednesday seeking to hold Standard Chartered Bank and its New York branch accountable.

They claim in the lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Manhattan that the bank conspired with Iran and its agents to hide Iran's assets from them. They're seeking to trace assets as they try to enforce a $2.6 billion judgment against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

A federal court in Washington, D.C., issued the award in 2007 after Iran failed to contest claims it was involved in the bombing, which killed 241 servicemen at a Marines facility in Beirut.

The lawsuit said the bank's "success in building a massive business clearing U.S. dollar transactions on behalf of Iranian financial institutions was a result of concerted efforts to evade U.S. sanctions against Iran." It said the bank's executives "continued year-after-year to process the illicit Iranian transactions in order to pad" the bank's profits.

Standard Chartered spokeswoman Julie Gibson said the bank does not comment on pending litigation.

The lawsuit came a day after New York's financial regulator said he'd reached a $340 million settlement with the British bank to resolve an investigation into whether it schemed with the Iranian government to launder money. The deal announced Tuesday subjects the bank's New York branch to two years of monitoring.

“Our closest ally”.
So how are the people of America served by Fed TARP funds being sent to British banks? British banking has given us laundering of Iranian assets to hide them from US judgements. They have given us the LIBOR scam. They have given us Money laundering for Mexican drug cartels.

British banking is often criminal, and is often specifically designed to thwart American well-being. They do not deserve one dime from America.

This is only one of the reasons the activities of the Fed should be publicized. The British are badly in need of some disinfecting sunshine. It’s no wonder they hate wikileaks. And when the leaked global warming emails exposed more British fraud, the investigation was solely focused on who leaked the emails, not the fraud exposed in them.

I was in the Marines when the bombing happened, and it was a real kick in the stomach.
I hope these Marine families kick some sleazy banker ass.

I remember it also and wasn’t a Marine, it kicked us all in the stomach. I hope they nail these bankers to the wall.

Thanks for the ping.

Anyone giving aid and comfort to the enemy is a traitor, guilty by the US Constitution of treason given that courts declared Iran responsible for the Marine Barracks attack.

This is EXACTLY the wrong moment, IMO, to try and get anything from ANY court under the Obama administration, against ANY bank, the government, And especially Iran, for anything some moslem mother^^^^^^s did to any American. Past, Present, and Future.

And for the rest. You sacrificed EVERYTHING to STAND YOUR GROUND when you KNEW better.

Not that that changes me.

My Love and respect.

I trend toward adding the State Dept to that list of traitors in this event.

It was the ambassador that got all pissy about the Marines’ defensive works. It was the ambassador that demanded the Marines disarm their defenses due to the Marines appearing “too hostile” to the local scumbags.

It was the ambassador that finally managed to win that fight by sniveling up the chain of command of the State Dept. It wasn’t more than a week or two after that piece of shit’s victory that the bombing happened.

And it was the USMC commander that had to fall on his sword as the sacrificial goat over the thing too.

Semper Fi.
Never forget. Never forgive.
Keep the spirit of vengeance alive for however long it takes.

I was 5000 yds off the coast when the bomb went off. It formed a perfect shaped mushroom cloud. We thought it was a nuke. Really sad waiting for orders to annihilate the pretargeted scum holes in the Beqaa Valley that NEVER came. Reagan was ill advised to hold off as we had enough assets there to clobber the place real good. It was a lost opportunity; the USS New Jersey could have taught the world a lesson there. Everyone there was so disgusted at Reagan, it took a long time for me to get over that. But I figure he was surrounded by RINO idiots so I can t blame him.

I think Reagan probably needed to make sure of who was behind the attack. Anyway, I remember my disgust being focued on the absolute stupidity of housing that many Marines in one giant target rather than spreading them out. This was basic ITS stuff. In the field we never grouped up on patrol (how old is “three on a match”?), and spread out when we sacked out.

Reagan made a mistake. There were pre targeted militia positions that were known hostile. They should have been eliminated post bombing. Our lack of response to that attack is still costing us. To me ,it made Reagan look like a phony chicken hawk. He talk a good game but when it came time to pull the trigger he couldn't. I'm over it now, but seeing that carnage in Beirut and no response was heart breaking.

PS The Marine sentries could have stopped that idiot from driving into that hotel but according to the ROI they could NOT PUT MAGAZINES in their weapons. How f-ed up is that?

I believe there was a retaliation planned but Caspar Weinberger successfully lobbied to stop it because it was not certain at the time that Iran was behind the attack. Still, in the end we really did nothing to retaliate for the mass murder, and instead “pulled out” with our tails between our legs. It is sickening on many levels.

There were militia targets specifically held hostage to be destroyed if the Marines were fired upon. As soon as the Marines were hit those targets were supposed to be forfeited and destroyed by us. See, back then, we had a functioning CIA and we knew who was responsible in about 2 hours. We looked like weaklings and we are still paying for that. That is all I can say.
