Caught on tape: Colorado gay man wrongfully arrested on guns charge

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Last month, a Colorado Springs man leaving a gay pride parade calmly explained to police officers who were threatening to beat him that the his Second Amendment rights to carry a firearm were being violated.

Three weeks later, the Colorado Springs Police Department has publicly agreed with J.R. Sorensen.

“He was right and we were in the wrong, definitely,” police spokeswoman Barbara Miller told the Colorado Springs Gazette. Colorado Springs Police did not return calls from FOX31 seeking comment.

All police had to do to review the incident was watch a publicly-posted video of the incident shot by Sorensen’s partner, which can be seen at the top of this story.

Sorensen was leaving a Pridefest at Acacia Park on July 21 when police told him it was illegal to be carrying the 40-caliber handgun that was holstered on his hip.

Sorensen told officers that in order for it to be illegal to carry a weapon in the park, there had to be a sign posted disclosing that in as many words. Believing his knowledge of the law to be superior, an officer told Sorensen in the video that “ignorance of the law is not an affirmative defense.”

“ignorance of the law is not an affirmative defense.”

Irony that it was the officer that was ignorant of the law. I guess he has no defense, now.

Clearly the cops were in the wrong, but why does he think they did it because he was homosexual?

“He was right and we were in the wrong, definitely,” police spokeswoman Barbara Miller told the Colorado Springs Gazette.

Not a statement that is usually forthcoming when a normal individual's 2A rights are violated.

Open carry is educational.

“This is because I’m gay, isn’t it?” said Sorensen, who is an Army veteran. “I’m gay and I’m carrying a weapon. You wanted to tase me because I wasn’t going to give you my identification, and then you were going to arrest me for not giving you my ID. … I have no reason to give you my ID, but I did because I don’t want this to go on.”

Sorensen was saved from arrest due to the abomination of the Lawrence v. Texas case and is exploiting the Second Amendment for his Gay Pride Parade Purposes and creating a distraction from the real crimes occurring at the Gay Pride Parade.

If you review the video, you will see children who are in the park where the Gay Pride Parade took place and the police, being distracted by Sorensen are unable to protect those kids from the gays at the Pride Festival or arrest those who brought them there.

It could have been a big set-up.

I’m surprised the guy behind the video camera wasn’t threatened or accosted by the police. Obviously some retraining is necessary.

On what grounds do you say police were supposed to arrest those who brought children to the park?

Mr. Sorensen, it had nothing to do with your predilection for nasty and biologically unnatural acts (which very few of us care or wish to know about if it’s with a consenting adult and in private - step outside those lines and we’ll want to put you down like a rabid dog) and everything to do with some agent’s of the state fear and loathing of a citizen possessing what makes them, along with a tin badge, feel superior and in control.

Fascism, the police state, interference with free assembly and parental rights are A-OK for some "constitutional conservatives" when it comes to the homosexual agenda.

“Fascism, the police state, interference with free assembly and parental rights are A-OK for some “constitutional conservatives” when it comes to the homosexual agenda.”

Parental rights do not include the right to expose one’s children to the lewd sexual acts that take place at the typical Gay Pride festival. I have heard accounts of male on male handholding, man on man kissing, male on male nudity and “simulated” sex acts at these Gay Pride functions.

Taking children to a Gay Pride fest is the same as taking kids to the local gay porn movie house.

Surly, you would not advocate the right of a parent to take their kids to a gay porn movie house?

So, the mentally ill are not barred from carrying weapons in Colorado?

HOMOSEXUAL, because there’s nothing GAY about it.

Oh please! In pictures of all gay pride parades I have ever seen the police are just standing around doing nothing. Kids are there and the adults are doing everything from simulating sex to out right sex acts. I honestly believe the police don’t do anything because they have families and don’t want to catch anything.

I have heard accounts of male on male handholding

Ok, stop right there.
Handholding? -- Handholding!? -- That's ridiculous. Handholding is not, in itself, sexual at all.
The aversion that some have to handholding is ridiculous, and I'm saying this as someone who generally does not like to be touched. Handholding is the best way to guide someone in a crowed place, regardless of gender.

They backed off because they violated a homo’s rights. Everyone else would have had to go to court to beat the cops off.

“...to beat the cops off”

You might want to reword that, especially given the homosexual nature of the article ;)
