In a case spotlighted as an example of “creeping Shariah” in the United States, attorneys for a Tulsa, Okla., police officer have asked for a summary judgment because a police official inside the department testified the officer was punished for exercising his rights.
The statement was included in a motion for summary judgment in the case brought by Capt. Paul Campbell Fields against the city of Tulsa, Chief Charles Jordan and Deputy Chief Alvin Webster.
Fields sued when he was punished with a two-week unpaid suspension and a demotion for refusing department orders to attend an event at an Islamic mosque in which officers observed Islamic worship services, heard an explanation of Islamic beliefs and were proselytized.
As a Christian, Fields believed the order violated his rights to freely exercise his own faith, but the department determined he was refusing a lawful order and punished him.
A hearing is set for later this year in the case, but lawyers with the American Freedom Law Center and the Thomas More Law Center, who launched the case, have filed for the judgment.

Outrageous abuse of Captain Field’s First Amendment right to his free exercise of religion which certainly would preclude employer-forced attendance at a Muslim mosque with the attendant proselytizing. That the Tulsa police force would require this from it’s officers is shocking - and a bit unnerving. ‘Creeping Shariah’, indeed. Captain Fields should win this with no problem. The order was a violation of his constitutional rights.
Real simple. Would the city/dept force a muslim to attend a Synagogue or Baptist Church? Anyone think the muslim would sue immediately??????
And yet, I have a feeling that he won't win.
Besides, our new Islamic Socialist Republic of the Western Hemisphere will be officially declared on Dec. 21, 2012, and Sharia Law will be in place and our new leaders will simply have Captain Fields' head removed.
He should have offerred to attend only if they had a similar meeting where muslims were required to attend a church meeting and hear about Jesus
He should have gone to the mosque but taken some rosary beads to recite under his breath while the Muslims gave their little spiel. If they protested, he could tell them he used them everyday regularly to “center” himself as part of his “spiritual journey.” What would the Muslims (who “have” to prostrate themselves on a rug 5 times a day) say then?

The saddest part of this story is the people in Tulsa didn’t demand and get the Chief’s resignation.
