Australian Court Snuffs Out Logos on Cigarette Packs

CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — Australia's highest court upheld the world's toughest law on cigarette promotion Wednesday, prohibiting tobacco company logos on cigarette packs that will instead show cancer-riddled mouths, blinded eyeballs and sickly children.

How about if they do that for sexual lubricants— pictures of STD and AIDs victims.

For that matter, what if they put pictures of broke gambling addicts on slot machines?

Or pimply nerds on video games?

Or obese people on large soda cups?

I see some potential here for just using the “ick” approach on any behavior.

But smoking gets to be the first one, because it’s a vice that it easy for “tolerant, non-judging” people to criticize.

Put pictures of genital warts on condom boxes since they do not prevent all STDs.

The demonization of tobacco and oil companies and all companies and even small business and the rich and conservatives and white people is all part of the same insidious evil. Fight it at every turn.

Smoking was always a women's issue in years gone by....just like drinking...."Temperance Movement" aka "controlling males"

But killing babies is okay AND THE FATHER HAS "0" SAY IN THE MATTER!!

The court also ordered the tobacco companies to pay the government's legal fees, but its reasons for the judgment won't be released until later this year.

I had no idea how quickly the Australian government is moving toward "People's Republic" status.

Someone is going to make a fortune producing and selling a lightweight plastic cigarette pack into which smokers will transfer their cigs and throw away the Government package.

That's fine. Smokers will just transfer their cigarettes to old fashioned cigarette cases.

Anti-smoking campaigns like this are just over the top.

It's one thing to use the power of government to teach and inform the public about the dangers of certain behaviors, but forcing private companies to print repulsive images on their product packaging, in an effort to change behavior to suit the agenda of a small (but powerful) minority of elected, appointed, and self-appointed cultural wardens, is something a free people ought to reject.

It's through this sort of mechanism that God-given, unalienable rights are destroyed and forever lost.
