Not really true that the taxayer had no choice. A few years ago, they could have thrown out the board and replaced them with fiscal conservatives. Their choice now is to keep it from happening again in the next contract negotiations.

All politics is local, and the conservative battle must be fought at all levels. Most of these horror stories are a consequence of the public defaulting on civic responsibility and letting the self-interested run things.
