GAO: EPA rules to cause energy price increases in Midwest, ‘compromise’ electric grid
Washington Examiner ^ | 8/16/12 | Joel Gehrke

Posted on 08/17/2012 4:59:57 PM PDT by Nachum

Four coal industry regulations from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will likely cause electricity prices to rise and may “compromise” electric grid reliability — especially in the Midwest and South — according to the Government Accountability Office. “Several representatives from power companies and officials from federal and state regulatory agencies have expressed concerns that as companies incur additional costs in responding to these additional regulations, and as the electricity supply is affected by generating unit requirements, electricity prices could increase and reliability — the ability to meet consumers’ electricity demands — could be compromised,” the GAO

The bids were put out the other week for the rates electric companies pay to buy power from each other. The bids were 800% over the present rate.

Its a done deal. Rates will be so high, that some will not be able to afford electricity.

Thanks Nachum. I just completed a visit to my home town in northwest Indiana. A high school classmate got talking about the current Obama imposed regulations that are affecting all of us. My friend said that their electric bill had doubled in the last six months due to the new EPA regulations on coal fired powerplants. That is the main source of electrical power in that part of Indiana.

I live in Montana and the visceral hate toward Democrats is stunning. We have a Dem Governor and two Dem US Senators. Gun rights being the prevailing issue? They won.

But, right now with the onslaught against coal, oil and natural gas people here are starting to realize that a vote for any (D) is a vote to destroy their living. Congressional Dems vote in “lock step”. Even union people are seeing the light.

Dems vote to stay in power and not to help any part of the coalitions created to keep that power.

There has been 9 GiGaWatts of power production shut down in 2012 and another 15 GW by 2015. There is no way the grid can continue to be as reliable as we (as a nation) have come to expect, in the future. The cost will continue to soar especially as natural gas prices sky rocket as well. Right now it's dirt cheap but it won't stay that way. That is giga BTW and that is a lot of production to lose and it is not being replaced because of the economany, any kind of recovery will really be painful.

One more reason why Obama will go down in flames on Election Day.

172 plants will be shut down very soon if this does not end.

172 coal fired plants. Granted, some are very old, but most are very modern. The old ones can not get permits to demolish and rebuild with new ones.

The only way the old plants can keep producing is by changing to wood fired-which was at 18 cents production. Coal is at about 4 cents. Hydro electric is the cheapest, and the eco freaks even want to breech dams like the Glen Canyon Dam.

These Mother Effers will get what they want under an Obama Administration.

I just read that power plants are shifting from coal to natural gas, and the result is reduced CO2 levels in the U.S.

Yes, power companies in the US are using less coal and more natural gas. Yes, it means less CO2 is being produced to generate the electricity. No, it is not reducing the CO2 levels in the atmosphere, that will still be increasing along with the price you pay for electricity.

Why? Because China, India, Vietnam, and most developing countries are rapidly increasing their use of coal. The changes we are making will be insignificant with the exception of how it will affect our economy. Expect US industries to take another big hit as the price of production goes up relative to the rest of the world.

Yup.....we will see if the people get what they want or if the election is fixed. We need to put pressure on our country to do the counting of the votes........not Communist Spain under Soros control.

BTTT again!

If you want to be on or off the Agenda 21 ping list, please notify me by Freepmail. It is a relatively low volume list in which we have been exploring the UN Agenda21 and related topics. We have collected our studies with threads, links, and discussions on the Agenda 21 thread which can be found here:
