Unemployment rates rise in U.S. election swing states (Oh Yes, It's Obama's Fault!)

Unemployment rates rose in July from June in almost all states, including those where the presidential election fight is expected to be fiercest, according to data released on Friday by the Labor Department.

Altogether, jobless rates rose in 44 states. Rates dropped in Idaho, Rhode Island and the District of Columbia, and were unchanged in four states.

As the country moves closer to November's election day, voters' attention is squarely focused on the economy and a national jobless rate hovering above 8 percent.

Because of the unique U.S. political system in which states cast electoral votes for president, the contest between President Barack Obama and presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney is heating up in seven states where polling suggests voters are undecided.

In those states - Nevada, Florida, Colorado, Wisconsin, Ohio, Virginia and Iowa - jobless rates all rose or were flat in July. Nevada again had the highest rate in the nation at 12 percent, while Florida's 8.8 percent and Colorado's 8.3 percent were both at or above the July national rate of 8.3 percent.

It is the patriotic duty of all business owners to temporarily furlough some of their employees beginning Sept 1. If successful,this would raise the unemployment levels significantly until the November election. If unemployment skyrockets, Obama is toast.

Anticipating reaction to my proposal that's it's wrong, undo-able, and loony, here's what I'd say: during the past ten years we have asked men and women who were otherwise employed to leave their jobs and families to serve in the military and our actions in Iran and Afghanistan. This was their patriotic duty. No less, now is the patriotic duty of employers and employees to take temporary leave of their jobs in order to secure Obama’s defeat.

Lest anyone think that these furloughed employees would starve, there is 99 weeks of unemployment benefits. They would only need 8 weeks. Unless, of course, Obama is re-elected and the economy further tanks, they will need every bit of that 99 weeks unemployment insurance. Think about it.

99 weeks is over. No EUC after January 2013. Eligibility date for benefit extensions expire. EB is toast and ain’t coming back. 73 weeks now and that will be reduced down another tier in September. The free ride is over. There is no more money.
