The Evansville Museum in Indiana corrected their misidentification of a glass piece of art held in storage for 50 years. The rediscovered artwork is a valuable Picasso original gemmaux work, created by baking different pieces of colored glass, titled "Seated woman with Red Hat." Documentation associated with the piece incorrectly indicated it was by an artist named "Gemmaux" with a design inspired by a Picasso oil painting, and the work was kept in storage for decades.

If you like it, it’s not junk. If you could not care less...it is.

There are photographers like Dianne Arbus, whom I just don’t “get.”

According to the following they are going to place this piece at auction.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) -- The Evansville Museum plans to sell a work of art by Pablo Picasso that it has kept in storage nearly 50 years and only recently discovered was genuine.

The museum's board of trustees President R. Steven Krohn told the Evansville Courier & Press (http://bit.ly/PZoVuO ) Wednesday the museum can't afford to keep the "Seated Woman with Red Hat" because of the costs to display, secure, preserve and insure the layered, fired glass piece.

The silly thing was SIGNED by Picasso. How could it have been mistaken for anything else all these years, because a curator’s note wasn’t filled out quite right?

It looks like one of his more complex works.

"In fact the whole modern movement in art is junk."

Well I've seen in person some Picassos I liked. But to condemn All modern Art? I mean every piece by Monet I've had the pleasure of viewing has knocked my socks off! And I was lucky enough to see a few Van Goghs that just jumped off the canvas.

I’d say most of the modern art is crap. My 14 year old daughter can draw better than Picasso.

50+ years ago, Evansville and American made Steel were pretty impressive. There were several of the old Steel guys who were collectors and often donated to the Museums as a tax hedge.

How times have changed except in the minds of the Unions.
