Teresa Stanley, the onetime Whitey Bulger moll who left behind a cross-country life on the lam to return to her family in South Boston, has died of lung cancer, her family said. She was 71.
She was truly just a beautiful woman, her son-in-law, Ron Adams, told the Herald. To look at her, you would know that. But what a lot of people didnt know is how beautiful she was on the inside as well.
Bulger whisked Stanley away for what he said was a cross-country vacation in late December 1994, starting his 16 years on the run upon learning he was about to be arrested. They spent a New Years Eve in New Orleans where he signed the hotel guest book in his own name and headed west to Arizona and California before Bulger came back East to ditch a homesick Stanley at a Chilis in Hingham. Bulger then swung north to town, where he picked up Catherine Grieg, his now-imprisoned sidekick who was captured with him in a rent-controlled Santa Monica flat last summer.
Stanley who told a federal jury in 2002 that she lived as if she were Bulgers wife did not speak of her stint on the run, her son-in-law said.
She didnt feel that anyone should really know those details, what have you, he said. She came back for the right reasons, because she missed her family and wanted to be part of it.
Stanley was diagnosed about six months ago, Adams said, but kept an optimistic outlook and even planned to return to work as an event caterer.
She always felt she could beat it. She truly was fighting and always felt she would get through it, he said.
Stanley lived two doors from her 91-year-old mother in South Boston, caring for her diligently until the final few weeks of her own life, Adams said.
Calling hours are from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at OBrien Funeral Home, 146 Dorchester St., South Boston. The funeral Mass will be held at Gate of Heaven church.
Adams said well-known well-wishers from the neighborhood have given their condolences, but he declined to say whom.
He said no one from the Bulger family had contacted him as of this morning.
I can assure you many many people have called and come by and expressed their condolences, he said.

(as Whitey disappeared...)
As Theresa got out of the car, Whitey told her he was headed for Fields Corner in Dorchester, to meet Kevin Weeks. In fact he was about to drive to Malibu Beach, where Kevin Weeks would deliver Catherine Greig to him. As for Theresa, she had some nice diamond jewelry she could hock, if times got tough. Or she could go back to being a banquet waitress, if her varicose veins didn’t act up. Sooner or later, Whitey knew, the cops would come calling, and she’d give up “Tom Baxter” But then she’d feel guilty and call Kevin, and Kevin would beep him. With any luck all this would be straightened out by then, and if it wasn’t he would have a new alias, or two, or three. For that he was counting on his old friends from Alcatraz. But right now he wanted to talk to his brother Billy...Once Whitey talked to Billy, he could get back on the road. Whitey wanted to drive and drive and drive...A year later when the feds recovered “Tom Baxter’s” Grand Marquis, in Yonkers, it would have 65,000 miles on its odometer.
Whitey watched as Theresa got out of the car in front of the restaurant in Hingham, clutching her single suitcase.
“I’ll call you,” he said.
She never saw him again.
Looks like Teresa won’t be down for breakfast.....
Cue the “Ka-ching” sound effect, Howie has his Monday topic.

McPhee got me so mad I texted and emailed the show. She kept saying that Alan West had cheated on his wife while trying to run for president. She is confusing West with Herman Cain. I was pissed off! I was persistant with trying to get a correction on the air, but Howie is not a conservative. He says so, but:
McPhee is a bleeding-heart repub
Sandy is a registered democrat
Corporal Hunt voted for Obammy
Every stinking sub he places is a rino.
Who you surround yourself with tells a lot about who you are.
As if? What's she going to talk about. I was a tramp and whored around with a murderer? It sounds like she came to her senses and life goes on.
Wow, stunning. So in your world we are only to surround ourselves with conservatives? Wow, you must be one of those libs who believes anyone can do anything as long as it's your way.
