Posted on 08/18/2012 4:29:47 PM PDT by NCjim
In the first week since Paul Ryan joined Mitt Romney on the Republican ticket, something subtle yet fundamental has happened to the country--something not yet reflected in poll numbers or punditry: the mantle of leadership has shifted.
Barack Obama and Joe Biden (certainly the latter) occupy office but cannot be said to govern in any meaningful way beyond formalities. Obama avoids the media; Biden has been sent back to Delaware; and their vast auxiliary army of super PACs and community organizers is reduced to petty sniping and personal attacks. No one expects any truly new ideas or proposals to come out of the Obama campaign anymore. It is telling that the only real debate this week was between Romney and Ryan's Medicare policies, not Obama's.
The honest reflections of the more thoughtful voices on the American left confirm that Romney and Ryan are, in effect, leading the country. First there was William Saletan of Slate, who wrote--without irony: "A wonderful thing has happened for this country. Paul Ryan will be the Republican nominee for vice president." He added that Republicans like Ryan were the perfect antidote to Democratic excesses: "Maybe, like me, you were raised in a liberal household. You dont agree with conservative ideas on social or foreign policy. But this is why God made Republicans: to force a reality check when Democrats overpromise and overspend."
That reaction found echoes in praise for Ryan offered by veteran Democrat Erskine Bowles of the president's own fiscal commission, among others. Other Democrats--notably former Virginia governor Douglas Wilder, the state's first African-American governor, and none too impressed with Biden's offensive appeals to racial resentment--began to consider crossing party lines to support the Republican ticket, even if just this once.

What is there for democRats to celebrate with unemployment climbing in 44 states in July?
All that is left for democRats is to distract, personal attacks, hate and loathing. If you want proof, go lurk on DUmmies. There is not a single positive thread touting accomplishments by ObaMao.
Privately, I sort of date this paradigm shift to about the moment Obama famously announced to the world, “You didn’t do that.”
To those who had been neutral or somewhat favorable toward him, this was an almost instantaneous turn-off. Suddenly, they saw the antagonism, the desperation, the outright HATRED of the “can-do” spirit of the American entrepreneur, and they did not like what they saw.
He ain’t ever gonna be able to unring that bell.
This paints too rosey a picture. Half the country is on the dole. It’s going to be a close election.
Now’s when he gets dangerous.
Now’s when he gets dangerous.
Now’s when he gets dangerous.
I built both of my businesses with more tears than cash and not one gubm’t dime. When my wife and adult children heard that statement from Obama they were floored. Most of them use to be non-political.
They are now very aware and scared by the things coming from the mouth of this,a sitting “U.S President”.
You got that damn straight. The Romney/Ryan campaign has only just begun to mine that rich vein of pure gold. Obama will never live that one down and "you didn't build that" will become the epitaph on the tombstone of his failed one-term presidency.
Now the Obama people have been trying to "walk back" this comment by saying that it was being taken out of context. Well when you look at the full context of that comment, it comes off even worse and even more anti-American.
I was able to pull the full speech off the web and here is the full context...
There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me -- because they want to give something back. They know they didnt -- look, if youve been successful, you didnt get there on your own. You didnt get there on your own. Im always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something - there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there.
If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If youve got a business -- you didnt build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didnt get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.
So taken in full context, Obama looks even worse. He is saying that wealthy, successful Americans "didn't give anything back." That successful people who attribute their success to hard work and being smart are wrong, apparently because there are less successful people who are also smart and hard working. Apparently they were successful only because the government built roads and bridges for them - roads and bridges that were paid for through taxes by guess who...those same wealthy and successful people that Obama claims "didn't give anything back."
Obama then goes on to say that the Internet was invented by government so that "companies could make money off the Internet" which shows you just how stupid and unfit for this job Obama is.
The Internet was "invented by government" back in the 1960s and 70s to ensure government communications in case of a nuclear war and never intended for commercial use. It was entrepreneurs who saw the potential and transformed it into what it was now.
You act and think that they WANT to be there...
Americans are different than Europeans, and I will bet you that they will vote no to Obama at least i large part because they know there situation will only get worse if he is voted in.
That is the American way, and more people are pissed than you seem to realize
Well, there is one way it won't be "the" epitaph. The double-down pResident is fully capable of saying or doing something even more outrageous to take its place.
I have posted in numerous threads that R&R need to hang the “you didn’t build that” albatross around Obama’s neck.
I have recently listened to several of Ryan’s rally speeches and he is doing just that.
I have also posted that “you didn’t build that” will turn out to be Obama’s “read my lips” disaster. It will be his downfall and it will be what he is remembered for.
Pollak is an idiot. Obama just handed work permits and voting rights to 2 million illegal aliens without an act of Congress - a naked, unconstitutional action, yet his so-called “new mantle of leadership”, Romney and Ryan said NOTHING about it. Neither did Boner or McConnell or Preibus. SILENCE, as America dies.
Ugh. Puke. Vomit. Upchuck. Regurgitate. - The few times I’ve lurked on Democratic Underground, I’ve had to go take a shower most of the time after I’ve lurked there. Every other word is the F-bomb.
That, or maybe Chick Fil-A.
I drove up from Orlando to The Villages today to listen to Ryan. The crowd went NUTS when he did "you DID build that" line...particularly because he said it in reference to his OWN MOTHER who built a small business after his father died..."Mom, you DID build that"...
That line was the beginning of The End for The One.
And the ‘Dey gon put y’all back in chains’ remark has also helped.
Joe Biden, the gift that just keeps on giving....
Kindly stop taking my name in vain. Thanks :)
(Many of us had that moment earlier -- whether the "this is the moment when the planet began to heal" or "we are five days from fundamentally transforming the United States of America" or Moochelle's "for the first time in my adult life I was proud of my country" or bowing to the Saudi King or "I won" or ...)
Hell, who am I kidding. He *is* the deluge.
Went over there, and found this piece of crap.
Supposed to be 194 things that Bambi did, most are vile, lies, or smoke and mirrors. Couldn’t make it past the first few things. It is a pile of BS.
Why worry about something that he (Romney) can simply void by Executive Order like the Oba-Messiah enacted in the 1st place? Better to void it after winning office and THEN canvas the Congress to pass worthwhile legislation to finally fix the immigration problem once and for all!
And a quarter of those on the dole -- the most recent -- hate being there.
It ain't gonna be close. 2010 all over again.
Agree, it's even worse in context.
And it's even worse in the audio. The whole spiel was full of venom...and he actually spat out the words "You didn't build that".
His meaning was crystal-clear. And frightening.
This paints too rosey a picture. Half the country is on the dole. Its going to be a close election.
Right now you look like a genius.. Rasmussen has Obama up by 2 and Gallup has Romney up by 2. Both eithin the MOE.
Still waiting to see Romney and Ryan at a Chic-fil-A.
Thanks NCjim and 4Liberty.
do you think those that are on assistance all want to be? I highly doubt that.
Your name is Regurgitate?? Please accept my apologies.:o)
Have Romney and or the GOP stated that they would get rid of the many Czar positions. I will have to see it to believe it. We’ll be lucky if these unconstitutional positions are eradicated. Maybe like Bush in the name of cooperation and fairness we can let them remain i.e. heads of committees; might even leave the same people in there. Kinda like Reagan leaving hundreds of Carter appointees in positions to continue their mission. What has to be done versus what will be is too depressing to contemplate I’m afraid.
” - - - Democrat surrogates find the old weapons no longer work.”
Ah, but are they not working on the backbone of the Democrat Party: Yellow-Dog Democrats?
I agree. That was a critical moment that defined Obama for many.
It’s actually worse than the Kerry gaffe “I voted for it before I voted against it” in 04.
Remember that obama was speaking to his constituants who probably have not built anything without the help of the federal government.
Under normal circumstances I would share your skepticism. However, Mitt Romney has a history of turning around numerous failed businesses in part by by trimming fat and eliminating unproductive positions. It's what he has done for decades, and what he brings to the present crisis. On that, Romney and Ryan see eye to eye.
Let me guess - Democrats are going to run on lies and fear - and the MSM will buy it...
I think you're right. That was the moment ...
You’re right. If the media were just neutral the race would be over already. That they work to cover up the incompetence just keeps it there.
He makes my skin crawl....
What Obama said is what is taught to government school children all school year long. If parents don’t make a correction over the summer how many more generations will it be until what Obama says is believed by every American?
How many people do you know that are truly grateful for Big Macs, air conditioning and gas stations?
I don’t have a problem with politicians who opposed the stimulus ideologically wanting to use the money to best serve the constituents of their state and district once it becomes available and is there for the taking. That is their job. What makes Ryan look like a hypocrite was publicly arguing the stimulus will not create jobs then privately writing proposals in which he would use stimulus to create jobs. There is nothing mind blowing about politicians lying but he certainly needs to realize he’s jumped up a league and can’t get away with outright deception anymore.
I am in complete agreement, okie - MANY of those who are stuck on the dole right now absolutely hate being there and blame the federal government as much as they do any company. With just a little bit of prodding, it is easy to discover that they are not at all wedded to the welfare state, and even that they are willing to vote for someone who gives them hope of escaping it. Many have been down pretty far in their life, know what it is like and are willing to go down again if that is what it takes to secure hope for rising above being slaves to welfare.
You say that a quarter of them hate being there. I believe the number is quite a bit more than that, and that they will vote against the welfare givers. They are afraid to speak out against it for fear that their lifeline will be taken away right now, when there is no hope of getting a job, but don’t fear it being taken away when conditions are put in place for jobs to become available.
Oh there's an albatross that needs to be hung alright, but the RINO & the Gym Rat - who supported TARP before they were against it - don't have the balls to do so any more than Juan McCain did.
It's name is Penny Pritzker.
"Romney, Ryan govern in all but name". Yawn what a pile of pretentiously delusional Rainbow manure.
Meet the New Boss, same as the Old Ba'al
The American political farce no longer even tries to diguise the pathetic game of dialectic sheeple-pong it has become.
Is it 1775 yet?
[You say that a quarter of them hate being there. I believe the number is quite a bit more than that, and that they will vote against the welfare givers.]
Right. When sleep apnea yields ~what percentage “Disability” upon discharge?
Those fat slobs will game and ride the DV gravy train until the day they die, and then some.
I see no evidence the welfarized civilian McSheeple are any different.
Don't give him a moment's rest. Barack pressured Bush to hand out money to "save the economy". Barry then bitched about how much money the Bush administration spent when HE demanded it and even threw a temper tantrum about it.
I believe that the world will be shocked by the degree that America will reject Obama in November and sends him and his minions to the dustbin of history where they belong.
