The Mantle of Leadership Has Shifted: Romney, Ryan Govern in All but Name
Breitbart ^ | August 18,2012 | Joel B. Pollak

Posted on 08/18/2012 4:29:47 PM PDT by NCjim

In the first week since Paul Ryan joined Mitt Romney on the Republican ticket, something subtle yet fundamental has happened to the country--something not yet reflected in poll numbers or punditry: the mantle of leadership has shifted.

Barack Obama and Joe Biden (certainly the latter) occupy office but cannot be said to govern in any meaningful way beyond formalities. Obama avoids the media; Biden has been sent back to Delaware; and their vast auxiliary army of super PACs and community organizers is reduced to petty sniping and personal attacks. No one expects any truly new ideas or proposals to come out of the Obama campaign anymore. It is telling that the only real debate this week was between Romney and Ryan's Medicare policies, not Obama's.

The honest reflections of the more thoughtful voices on the American left confirm that Romney and Ryan are, in effect, leading the country. First there was William Saletan of Slate, who wrote--without irony: "A wonderful thing has happened for this country. Paul Ryan will be the Republican nominee for vice president." He added that Republicans like Ryan were the perfect antidote to Democratic excesses: "Maybe, like me, you were raised in a liberal household. You don’t agree with conservative ideas on social or foreign policy. But this is why God made Republicans: to force a reality check when Democrats overpromise and overspend."

That reaction found echoes in praise for Ryan offered by veteran Democrat Erskine Bowles of the president's own fiscal commission, among others. Other Democrats--notably former Virginia governor Douglas Wilder, the state's first African-American governor, and none too impressed with Biden's offensive appeals to racial resentment--began to consider crossing party lines to support the Republican ticket, even if just this once.

You’re right. If the media were just neutral the race would be over already. That they work to cover up the incompetence just keeps it there.

What Obama said is what is taught to government school children all school year long. If parents don’t make a correction over the summer how many more generations will it be until what Obama says is believed by every American?

How many people do you know that are truly grateful for Big Macs, air conditioning and gas stations?

I don’t have a problem with politicians who opposed the stimulus ideologically wanting to use the money to best serve the constituents of their state and district once it becomes available and is there for the taking. That is their job. What makes Ryan look like a hypocrite was publicly arguing the stimulus will not create jobs then privately writing proposals in which he would use stimulus to create jobs. There is nothing mind blowing about politicians lying but he certainly needs to realize he’s jumped up a league and can’t get away with outright deception anymore.

I am in complete agreement, okie - MANY of those who are stuck on the dole right now absolutely hate being there and blame the federal government as much as they do any company. With just a little bit of prodding, it is easy to discover that they are not at all wedded to the welfare state, and even that they are willing to vote for someone who gives them hope of escaping it. Many have been down pretty far in their life, know what it is like and are willing to go down again if that is what it takes to secure hope for rising above being slaves to welfare.

You say that a quarter of them hate being there. I believe the number is quite a bit more than that, and that they will vote against the welfare givers. They are afraid to speak out against it for fear that their lifeline will be taken away right now, when there is no hope of getting a job, but don’t fear it being taken away when conditions are put in place for jobs to become available.

albatross around Obama’s neck.

Oh there's an albatross that needs to be hung alright, but the RINO & the Gym Rat - who supported TARP before they were against it - don't have the balls to do so any more than Juan McCain did.

It's name is Penny Pritzker.

"Romney, Ryan govern in all but name".   Yawn what a pile of  pretentiously delusional Rainbow manure.

Meet the New Boss, same as the Old Ba'al

--The Who?

The American political farce no longer even tries to diguise the pathetic game of dialectic sheeple-pong it has become.

Is it 1775 yet?

Right. When sleep apnea yields ~what percentage “Disability” upon discharge?

Those fat slobs will game and ride the DV gravy train until the day they die, and then some.

I see no evidence the welfarized civilian McSheeple are any different.

The day after the election, Romney/Ryan should move their desks into the Office of the President Elect. Recall that is what the little bastard (and that is Barry's provenance) did in 2008.

Don't give him a moment's rest. Barack pressured Bush to hand out money to "save the economy". Barry then bitched about how much money the Bush administration spent when HE demanded it and even threw a temper tantrum about it.

I believe that the world will be shocked by the degree that America will reject Obama in November and sends him and his minions to the dustbin of history where they belong.

It ain't gonna be close. 2010 all over again.

I'm thinking 1980+1994=2012. :)

Yes, the “won” of uncertain origin and orientation is intent on treating those who made this nation strong the way Jesse Dirkhising was treated. For those who don’t recognize the name DON’T look it up unless you have a strong stomach and no blood pressure problems.

I checked it out, actually they missed a few things, they forgot to mention that the “won” issued every American child a pony and saddle and every adult got a flying pink Unicorn and a personal golden egg-laying goose. But, hey, they can’t be expected to remember EVERY wonderful thing that their messiah has delivered. Bye, now, gotta go and fly to Hawaii on Claude, that’s the name I gave my own personal Unicorn. My wife left two hours ahead of me on Diana.

I have noticed that the word ‘GRAVITAS’ is mysteriously missing in this election’s press coverage.

What, wait, did I miss the election?

They aren’t “governing” anything yet.

I don’t think this is true. Romney cannot pass executive orders allowing 2 MM illegals instant effective amnesty, not to mention probably voting eligibility when couple with “no ID”. Romney cannot create who-knows-what bureaucratic regulations that are impediments to whatever the next contra-0bama presidency may wish to put in place....if that even happens.

Romney hasn’t won the freaking election yet. What is this about?
