To what conservative Senatorial candidate should I send my money? (vanity)

To what conservative Senatorial candidate should I send my money?

The preservation of conservative principle and ideals is a good thing, a necessary thing, and must be applauded. The continued application of principle to a short term situation in which all aspects of conservatism cannot be brought to bear becomes an exercise in futility and wasted time and effort.

Such is the case in the current presidential election. Conservatism cannot have an effect on choosing an opponent to run against Obama. That decision was made in the primaries. There are pretenders who will take you money and your pretend vote but the exercise is futile.

That limited restraint does not apply across the board and in fact has no bearing at all on the remaining but extreme important races for seats in the congress. The strength of the conservative movement and of Free Republic should be redirected away from the battle for presidential nominee to the other races.

For a conservative who lives in a state where the Senate incumbent is up for reelection and has no competition and has loads of money, a prudent course is to find a worthy conservative candidate elsewhere. It has been an established practice for many Freepers to shun giving money to the Republican House and Senatorial campaign committees because they do not always support conservatives. A better choice is to find a worthy candidate and contribute directly by finding his website and putting the contribution on the credit card. It is clean, quick and easy.

The question then becomes who are the Senate candidates with conservative credentials who can best use the money? Are there Senate candidates that can be as worthies for the funds we have available for contribution ( that is above and beyond the funds for keeping the doors of Free Republic open)?

I think it would be helpful if Freepers in the various states with knowledge of the candidates and their relative strengths could provide some insight. The only race I have small knowledge of is Florida where the incumbent has massive available funds and some help to the Republican candidate might be worthwhile. The problem is the Republican Mack might not be the best conservative among those across the country .

Thus the problem.

Who are the most deserving conservative candidates in need of some help?

We cannot affect the Presidential race but we can certainly provide some leverage in the Senate. That must be our course of action

Don’t send Deb Fischer a dime!

Such is the case for the top of the ticket. But enter Paul Ryan. He has brought some real Conservatives like me into the fold. This is not a predictor as Ryan is #2. But it sure improves the outlook and should give us hope.

I second this choice. Jim DeMint is one of our best conservatives (IMHO) and his organization has your stated aim as it’s own. Might as well let an expert decide, I’m sure he knows the candidates better than most.

MY thanks for the great work you have done and for bringing your previous thread here. It helps a lot to sort through all the murk to reach a decision. Below is a rough accounting of the views on the thread.

It could be said to be a conservative favorite son list. There are however some who seem to stand out. They have multiple asterisks. The Pac is an excellent idea and gets bang for the buck and seems to reflect the main views expressed on this thread. It is like a mutual fund where the decisions as to who and how much is decided by a body who knows better than I.

You placed special emphasis on 6 of 9. I would be curious to see the six and the nine. I would be interested to see how the list of six by someone who has studied the races stands up to applied Free Republic thought. It would appear that Richard Mourdock and Josh Mandel are viewed by Freepers as a good place to spend a little money where it is needed.

Rather than moan and groan about those races lost, we have an opportunity to direct conservative effort and some money towards campaigns that will put forward the conservative philosophy. We must go forward.

Those who were mentioned on the thread

Jim Demint Conservative pac ** http://senateconservatives.com/

Richard Mourdock Indiana ****
Josh Mandel Ohio ****
Connie Mack iv Florida ***
Pete Hokestra *
George Allen Virginia *
Ted Cruz of Texas *

Charlie Summers Maine * -
Jeff Flake of Arizona
Rehberg Montana
Berg New Jersey
Casey Pennsylvania
John Raese – West Virginia
Rick Berg – North Dakota
Heather Wilson - New Mexico
Deb Fisher Nebraska (doesn’t need money) **
Todd Aiken Missouri (Good lead) **
Tommy Thompson Wisconsin ( Shoo in)

——We don’t have to live in a state to work for conservatism in that state.-——

I think the various posters have given me solid food for thought. I am especially fond of the Jim Demint Pac concept.

We truly don’t have to live in the state to make an effort to promote a conservative candidate. Conservative contributions have been nationalized. The internet and the conservative PAC have obsoleted the GOP campaign fund raisers so far as conservative contributors are concerned
