I never understood all the fuss over this “gutsy decision”. It was either yes or no. He got lucky and said yes, and the brave members of the SEAL team did the work. He had nothing to lose.

Remember a few years back when a probable CIA-SOF team captured the mastermind of the 9/11 atrocities, Khalid Sheikh Muhammad? I don’t remember GWB spiking the football, and announcing to all that HE did it.

According to the new book by Richard Miniter which is scheduled for publication on August 21st, there had been three opportunities earlier in 2011 to take out Osama, but Obama had refused to give the go-ahead on the earlier occasions because Valerie Jarrett was opposed.

I'm not sure how he managed to get around her opposition on the fourth try--but naybe somebody important (Panetta or a general) threatened to make public his refusal to act if he passed again.

Remember, of course, that the Obama people went around claiming that Romney would not have had the guts to give the go-ahead to kill Osama.
