Say goodnight, Todd Akin
Washington Post ^

Posted on 08/19/2012 8:01:18 PM PDT by Arthurio

No wonder Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill wanted to run against Rep. Todd Akin, even investing in his GOP primary victory two weeks ago by spending $2 million on ads that described him as “too conservative.’’ Missouri Republicans saw that as a plus, just as she’d hoped. But after his Sunday comment that “legitimate rape” rarely leads to pregnancy, even some in the GOP are calling for him to step aside.

The Republican lawmaker was trying to explain why he opposes abortion in cases of rape, but instead marched straight into the tar pits, where he will hopefully serve as a warning to future candidates that the reproductive info gleaned at summer camp may not hold up that well in TV interviews half a century hence.

Rape as a result of sex by force “is really rare,” Akin told KTVI-TV. “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”

Who in the GOP? Can't Melinda Henneberger say who is making this call?
Or do we simply believe anonymous critics?

A "media firestorm" indeed.

Burn, baby, burn!

From the article:
“I think there should be some punishment, but the punishment ought to be on the rapist and not attacking the child.”

Struggling to find something wrong with this position.

Melinda Henneberger is the dumb slut at the WashPost who says: “Rape as a result of sex by force “is really rare,” Akin told KTVI-TV... “

LOL!

Akin won in a plurality against the other two candidates, put in Sarah Palin’s endorsed candidate, Ms. Steele.

He is. He either needs to step down or run out on a rail. What an incredible loser.

He is NOT technically correct. I’ve prosecuted hundreds of rape cases. This is beyond the pale disgusting.

I think alamost everybody..
Well what one thinks compared to what is known can be vastly different things, can't they?

The only people really defending on twitter was Dana and Chris Loesch..
Since when does Twitter become the deciding factor in public discourse?
It's easy to manipulate how a story is viewed on Twitter.

"Did you see that story?! It's got, like, you know, 10 gazillion "thumbs down" and only two "thumbs up"."

What a FARCE!

They did the same to me. Meh. Was a Prosecutor for 25 years and been called worse. I’ve been voting since Goldwater and I have NEVER EVER voted for anyone other than a GOPer. However, I’d vote for the Dem over this idiot. Ppl here can take all the shots they want at me.

I'm calling the Republican Party HQ tomorrow in Missouri (573-636-3146). This guy has got to withdraw while there is time to get Sarah Steelman or someone else's name on the ballot. Otherwise, we're going to have Claire baby again for 6 years.

CALL FOLKS....573-636-3146

He needs to be gone...like tomorrow. Doing so will allow for Steelman to have a shot at actually winning, and head off a lot of the incessant media hype and criticism that will be coming in the days and weeks ahead. This just turned into a major issue, the kind of thing McCaskill loves to run on, just like the whole controversy with Michael J Fox and Parkinson’s blew up in 2008.

His comments can’t be defended, so he needs to step aside, for the good of the party and country as a whole, he clearly has no business being in government and McCaskill obviously recognized this when she funded his ads.

If a Democrat is paying for ad’s supporting a Republican candidate, it should have been a good sign to Missouri voters that this guy was a bit of a loon and then some.
