People on public assistance commit majority of tax refund fraud, police say

FTA:

Tampa police estimate that 80 to 90 percent of the tax refund fraud they encounter is committed by people on public assistance.

"The people who are benefiting most from our taxes are the ones doing it," said police spokeswoman Andrea Davis.

Tampa led the nation in refund fraud last year, with thieves duping the IRS out of $468 million. That's according to a recent analysis by a federal watchdog agency, which put the national loss at $5.2 billion. The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration said it detected characteristics of refund fraud in 88,724 paid Tampa returns.

No one can say with certainty who took all the money.

But police know where they find the evidence.

Routinely, they see signs of tax fraud commingled with indicators of food assistance, rent assistance, Medicaid or Supplemental Security Income disability checks.

This absolutely infuriates me, if we had a consumption tax and got rid of the IRS (will never happen) these thieves are consumers and they will pay. Everyone who deals in anything illegal are also consumers. I've been saying this for years. We could force everyone to pay their share. Yes including those on the dole.

They would pay their fair share with your tax dollars if they had to pay a consumption tax.. The so called “Fair Tax”
would exclude certain people from paying a consumption tax the government would send them a monthly stipend to pay for the taxed items at least this is how I read it. Just like Obamacare certain incomes will get money from the government to pay for their forced insurance and I am not talking about seniors but incomes up to 90K ridiculous.

What a shock. I wonder if they are associated with other crime as well.

WE who pay the taxes are treated like criminals on every turn, hounded and pursued unmercifully. We pay taxes, insurance, fees and fines without limits. We pay for our houses and property that we only really rent for taxes. WE are drug tested at random and for employment.

How about drug testing the wards of the state, all the people sitting on their butts taking our money before they can get it? How about politicians? How about the pres? FAT CHANCE.

I was working for a large corporation back when random drug testing became active. I was a budding middle manager with a seat at the management team table and asked when we, the management team, were going to be tested. That went over big and even bigger when I said it was only right. People really talk a great line of self-righteousness I suppose.

What’s so special about Tampa that it owns so much of this fraudulent behavior?

Tampa police estimate that 80 to 90 percent of the tax refund fraud they encounter is committed by people on public assistance.

That, and welfare fraud on a massive scale is totally unexpected and unprecedented, too.

There is no well-intentioned program that the mind of predator criminals can't exploit and circumvent.
The only prevention is eliminating inattention, and adult administrators smarter than the criminals.

"Doubling down" NEVER works.

Gallows humor always a necessity when dealing with the IRS, but they are a whisker away from being the Thought Police and it will only get worse if/when Obamacare kicks in.

A sixth grader could detect the fraud that goes on here but certain people live in certain untouchable districts/cities so the boat isn’t rocked. Meanwhile, I know people who have gone to great personal effort and expense to adopt children from Asia and give them loving homes they had no chance at in their homeland.

Their reward? A load of letters and threats from the IRS demanding proof that a flight to China was an expense related to the adoption process! Insane.

I don’t think either the pro or con side realizes the real game of the Mexican illegal invasion - they don’t want amnesty because they don’t want citizenship. Citizenship would mean paying taxes!

The commie libs love to tell us about how much the freeloaders and illegal aliens pay in taxes. That BS just isn’t true and is nothing but a DemocRAT myth. The majority of them get a hell of a lot more back in taxes than they ever paid in.
