"Top Gun" director Tony Scott fatally jumped off the Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro on Sunday afternoon, according to Los Angeles police sources.

His body was pulled out of the water by Los Angeles Police Department, California Highway Patrol and U.S. Coast Guard officials.

Investigators found a suicide note in his car, which was parked on the bridge.

Law enforcement sources said several witnesses saw Scott, the brother of director Ridley Scott, climb over a fence on the bridge and jump off.

The coroner's office identified him Sunday evening.

Scott was a respected action-movie director who also made "Enemy of the State," "Beverly Hills Cop II" and "Crimson Tide."

The bridge he jumped off was some bridge. He wasn’t fooling around.

Prayers for his children.

Prayers for his kids and family. I guess he had enough of Jerry Brown’s version on California.

What a waste. So sad that he believed no one could help him with whatever problem he had.

I am familiar with the VT Bridge. I was halfway up one side about 30 years ago when the timing belt on my truck broke. I had to back down going against traffic. It’s a big bridge.

Don’t know what his situation was, but he was almost 70, which would imply possibly something terminal.

Terrible thing to say. Seems to me it takes courage to jump off a bridge like the size of that one. You do not know what was his reasoning. You should not make comments like those not knowing the man and what he was going through. Prayers for his family.

Feel bad for the guy and whatever issues he was going through. He was artistically brilliant, a terrific director and his movies were always great “escapist” fare, without being overly political. He will be missed!!!!

Wonder if he got bad news on a disease. True Romance was his best by far.

>>Suiside is the cowards way out.<<

Suicide.

Or a very sick person’s way out. Sometimes, with chemicals going wacko in the brain, it seems like one is saving everyone the trouble of having you around. It can seem very brave and self-sacrificing to a person who seriously attempts and/or succeeds.

My boss treated people who attempted and lived. They can be helps but sometimes, it doesn’t do any good. The WILL do it if they think that the world will be better off without them.

No, it’s the cowardly way. Now his sons are in danger because of his example. Suicide spreads.

True Romance was his best by far.

I agree completely--what a great film. I doubt Tarantino would have done as well if he'd been able to direct it himself. I remember watching it in a packed theater with my father. During the infamous "Sicilian scene", we laughed like hyenas at the politically incorrect brilliance of it as the rest of the theater sat in uncomfortable, retarded silence.
