According to a report on Voice of Israel government-sponsored radio, Egypt has moved anti-aircraft missiles into the Sinai Peninsula.
The radio station's Arab affairs analyst, Eran Zinger, reported Saturday that Egypt has deployed both anti-aircraft and anti-tank missiles near Israels border in the Egyptian Sinai, without Israels permission.
Such equipment is prohibited in Sinai by the Egypt-Israel peace treaty. Egypt is trying to change the situation in Sinai, Zinger said.

Quick,somebody,write a stern letter!
this should be put in breaking news!
The most perilous moment in the early life of the 3rd Reich came when Hitler ordered the reoccupation of the Rhineland in contravention of the Treaty of Versailles. It was March 1936 and the French Army was the largest and most powerful in Europe. The leadership of the still rearming and expanding Wermacht knew it was still too weak to resist the French if they reacted militarily. But neither the French nor the other WW1 allies reacted militarily and the Nazis knew that they faced what were, for a time, toothless tigers. The West had become flaccid in its love of peace and would soon learn the price of coddling even a weak dictator.

I don’t generally like historical parallels, but it does seem that Israel faces a similar situation with Egypt. Unfortunately, the UN is moribund, Iran is developing a nuclear weapon, and the United States, under the leadership of President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton, is no lover of Israel’s security or freedom.
The question for Israel is this: Can it afford the wait needed to work the problem in the Security Council or should it act now knowing that military action in the Sinai would probably provide Morsi with the excuse needed to abrogate the peace treaty. If it is war, can or should Israel limit itself to just the Sinai or even just Egypt in the scope of its military operations??
Indirect fire! Target practice!
“signed with Arabs”
Signed with Muslims should be the phrase. Egyptians are not arabs.
no lover?
indeed. Obama, Clinton, and the DNC have
enabled and encouraged crucifixions of Christians in Egypt,
and plan the extermination of Israel.
It’s the Muslim religion and how it is taught and practised in that part of the world. The Muslim religion is not merely a religion but the underpinnings of a longed for transcendent world superstate. It is a politico-religious movement with teeth that uses even lying (TAQQAIYAH) to achieve its ends, when military conditions will not prevail(temporarily). Thus the similarities in behaviours and outlook between the differing races. They share the same one world government outlook, the Muslim World Caliphate which they see as superseding the United Nations as well as being united in their Jew and Christian hatred.
The islamists threw much of the know-how away when they overthrew the Mubarak government. I think now they may be making the classic arab mistake of equating advanced hardware with the knowledge of how to use it.
Egypt (like her Arab brothers) have abysmal maintenance practices - tanks, planes, missle systems - just having them is a far cry from maintaining them in a readiness condition.
Agreed, good analysis!
Wasn’t even in News/Current Events. Put it in that and Breaking. Hopefully it stays there.
Isn’t it just great to have a US President that watches out for the safety of our friend Israel, rather than someone of my muslim faith?
Morsi has historically held the 1979 treaty in contempt. Iran has become increasingly bellicose, calling for Israel's destruction multiple times over the past week.
Somehow, I doubt they're going to be discussing the weather.
Looks like Egypt is gonna get their AZeS whooped again!
1967 1973 2012?
That’s the reason, of course that Israel’s enemies are so bold. I think one of the reasons Israel hasn’t already attacked Iran is because any first strike will strengthen the resolve of Israel’s enemies. Many Iranians and others don’t agree with their leaders about Israel, but if Israel attacks and kills some of them, that will change. It’s never good to have all the Turks, Persians, and Egyptians in the world wanting to kill you if they are your neighbor. And, by the US not offering any support, Russia appears more likely to help Iran. These are not Israel’s best times, for sure.
Even if the schmuck, as president, had visited... even ONCE, there would be a somewhat different atmosphere in the area. You'd think that the marxist would try to balance things at least on the surface, after a MAD DASH to Egypt in his first few weeks in office with an Israel visit SOMETIME in 3 1/2 years, but no... true "Islamic Prayer Sweetest in the World" schmuck to the core.
Remember those are AMERICAN anti-aircraft weapons, the most advanced kind, given to Egypt by Obama over Congressional and Israeli objections.
seems the peace treaty is a dead letter already...
Isreal simply needs to highlight the document and declare to egypt to 'move em or lose em' and act accordingly...
That would kill more than 20 million people.
Von Ribbentrop went to Moscow on Aug 23, 1939 to sign the German-Soviet Non-Aggression pact. The Nazis invaded Poland 9 days later.
(hence the “If things get really bad,” qualifier...)
Theoretically, up to 80 million people could be killed, as 97% of Egyptians live within a region that would be flooded with between 8 and 11 feet of water within 1-2 hours.
You are right about that, and with NO support from our pres, Russia, who likes Iranian oil a LOT, is more apt to be involved.Don’t know where they would draw the line, but they have enough rusty cold war junk around to cover Israel three layers deep, and never miss it off inventory. Or, worse case, if Israel bombs Iranian facilities, and kills some Russkie scientists and destroys stuff that Russia thinks is theirs,Russia might give Iran a couple of nukes. Probably be hard to tell where they came from after they’ve been used.
“Theoretically, up to 80 million people could be killed, as 97% of Egyptians live within a region that would be flooded with between 8 and 11 feet of water within 1-2 hours.”
Then it would behoove Egypt not to start a war with Israel. Pharoah’s army’s bath in the Red Sea would be insignificant compared to this.
War to come soon—Only question of when—My bet—before November election. Egypt knows there White House Friend will do nothing if Egypt attacks. The Israel of today isn’t the Israel of 1968 or 1972. they Egyptians will roll right over Gaza and into the south of Israel like a knife into butter. the IAF is the only thing to delay them. the war will cerement the Brotherhood in power—unite the Egyptians with a few victories until —— Cairo glows and Egypt is occupied by the Jews. i think it will be early October 2012—and last til November 5th. Just my estimate. What do you think?
“That would kill more than 20 million people. “
we call that “a start”.
Oh, better we should let the islamic scum fihish what the nazis started?
Muck fislam.
A lot of the Egyptian hardware looks bad but it’s not the same as ours. For instance they have about 700 Abrams tanks. But they have a license to manufacture their own so what they have is mostly “homemade” and that in turn means they don’t have the neat stuff like, oh, say shoot-on-the-run capability. their whole bleeping army is like that and most of them have forgotten how they got their clocks cleaned in 1967 when they quit patrols for morning coffee.-———————and remember this: The leadership in Egypt has been an inbred bunch since the pharoah’s started banging each other. And this time they don’t have Syria and Jordan to split the Israeli forces should they decide to repeat “stupid”.
Your math is about right and another reason for the Egypts to be a little humble and polite with exposure like that. 90% of the population lives in the flood zone. But again, we’re talking about a bunch of inbred Pharoah’s who are probably not capable of rational thought.
And I read an article a while back about those tanks - written by a US Army armor maintenance instructor - most are in deplorable condition and certainly not battle-ready, but they can look nice on parade....
I think it will be short and vulgar, high death content, and it will bring about the signing of the 7 year treaty with the anti-Christ...
but that war that leads to that must come!
Doing that requires Israel going to the United Nations and having the various permanent and rotating members of the Security Council discuss, propose, investigate, report, proclaim, denounce, etc. in what amounts to the diplomatic equivalent of "Rope-a-Dope." In the meantime, the Egyptians would continue to move prohibited military arms and personnel into the Sinai...
Better to warn once now, immediately act decisively if the provocation/violation continues, and explain in the UN afterwards.
If they go this route, I just hope they will not talk themselves into taking half measures expecting to get some credit for showing restraint. Second only to a nuclear-armed Iran, the Egyptian Army - especially one that feels itself no longer constrained by the peace treaty - is an immediate existential threat to Israel. Israel should treat it accordingly.
thats what i meant Capt...
Israel calls a press conference, highlights the agreement to have the area demilitarized, then announces that the bombing will start in 24 hrs, or anytime thereafter at their choosing, and everything in the zone will be smoking rubble...
then DO IT !!!
I wonder if many Egyptians can swim..
Israel probably doesn’t want to open two fronts at once: Iran and Egypt. But may not have a choice.
It might not be so easy this time...mainly because Iran just might use such a situation as an excuse to jump in themselves in anticipation of an attack by Israel.
