Todd Akin's Sinking Ship (inside info -- the real reason he MUST GO)
wall street journal ^ | 8-2012 | (comments by DFU)

THE ARTICLE

COMMENTS: Here is the real problem. My own investigation reveals the following:

1 - one night he was drunk and partying with young women; he drove off a bridge, ran away like a coward, did not get help for 8 hours, and let the young woman die in an air pocket in 6 feet of water

2 - at a conference, he brutally bit and raped a nursing home operator and told her to put ice on it

3 - in his office, he assaulted a woman pleading for a job whose husband had just died

4 - on Easter Sunday, he showed off his Bible for photo ops in the morning, then got a BJ from an intern in his office right after church

5 - he exposed himself to a woman brought to his hotel room by troopers and told her to kiss it

6 - he gave government jobs in exchange for sex

7 - he had thugs slash a woman's tires, kill her cat, and threaten the lives of her children if she testified in a sexual harassment case

8 - he and his brother had sex and cocaine parties with underage girls

9 - behind the scenes, his evil satanic wife threatened women who might come forward and cause him grief

“He has to go, he has to go, he has to go.”

Oh my goodness, that’s exactly what I said. Was it on this thread, or another?

Just like that, 3 times.

Banging head against wall! 3 times.

GET OUT NOW! GET OUT NOW! GET OUT NOW!

Hey, American politicians, of ALL parties, look here - this is why we are ALL fed up and DISGUSTED with THE LOT OF YOU!!!!

ARE YOU GETTING IT YET??????

Makes me wonder why he threw the election.

That is why I believe he should go. He was a Dem setup from the git go, and conservatives fell for it. Now Claire is in a panic trying save his bacon, after she spent so much money to get him elected. He only won because so many democrats voted for him. The problem is, he imploded too soon. He has to go, not because of what he said, but because he is a Trojan horse.

I am from Missouri. I did not vote for Akin because I noticed Sarah Palin did not endorse him. She was right again. He needs to withdraw immediately.

Akins certainly propounded a novel sounding theory: that if the woman hated the sex, she’s less likely to conceive. Who taught HIM the birds and bees?

Even as we speak, somebody is applying for a government grant to write up papers on differences between legitimate and illegitimate rape.

Exactly.

Yes, he misspoke and yes his words are being twisted, even though they didn’t really need twisting to be damaging.

But the problem is that he has changed the conversation, not just in Missouri where it will lead to his defeat and the reelection of the abysmal McCaskill, but nationally too.

Just when it seemed Romney/Ryan had some momentum, with a weak economy people are increasingly seeing Obama as incapable of dealing with, and with a debate on Medicare where the GOP finally gets the high ground and can point to Obama’s cuts to the program...along comes this guy to say something incredibly and inexplicably stupid.

And yes there is a double standard. Yes it’s unfair to Republicans. But for crying out loud you can’t make it so easy for the Left!

This situation reminds me of the professor that lost his job because he used the word “niggardly” offending the uneducated, hyper-reactionaries.

Are you suggesting the two comments are in the same league? To be sure, there are a lot of liberals upset over this use of "legitimate," but I'm more ticked off at his naivete about how dangerous the subject of rape (*any* rape) is. He was trying to softpedal his stance on abortion in the case of a rape. Not only that but it does make one wonder what other kinds of rape he thinks there are.

This was worse than a disaster, it was a blunder. An unforced error leading to a game-winning run.

Wow. Panties in a wad over a minor, semantic issue. I thought we took time to understand facts and truth? Throwing Akin under the bus out of fear for word games played by liberals? Screw that. I hope Akin stands strong and wins. If I were him I'd double down and throw it back in the libs faces big time, as well as the spineless twits who fear what libs think and say.

We should be dedicated to the principle that human life at all stages - particularly at its most vulnerable - is worthy of protection and due process. Akin believes and iterates as much. Abortion is morally reprehensible under all circumstances. I would not expect Mitt Romney and assorted RINOs to agree. Power is better than life for some, but in the end we'll see who gets the "last laugh," as it were.

Yeah they’re hypocrite scum. If we could figure out how to take over the TV media that would be Earth shattering.

Doesn’t matter though. What he said doesn’t matter, it’s what the voters reaction would be. Seems like the reaction would be to not vote for him so he must go for the good of the nation.

And people should realize that Sarah is politically smarter than your average bear.

“Kennedy did run for president and just missed beating a sitting President Carter in 1980.”

Doug, I’m not going to argue this point with you, I do remember him running, but my youthful impression was that Chappaquiddick really ruined his chances.

Of course I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure it would have been used against him, big time, had he gotten the nom.

The guy was a bum, he should have done time. I don’t think he actually murdered Kopechne, but I think he was drunk and criminally negligent.

I also think Jane Fonda should have been tried for treason, even though I think she is an excellent actress.

Bill Ayers and the Harridan Dorhn - there are no words for those terrorists.

It is a complete disgrace what the left has gotten away with in this country.

But then along comes Akin, and gives them (a few of them anyway) another chance.

Unforgivable.

He may be a very good man but this was a grand slam home run of screw ups.

Given what he said, would you still vote for him against McCaskill???

Then it's not the grand slam of screw-ups.

I think he meant to say actual rape instead of legitimate rape. He didn't say rape was legitimate; however, Krauthammer is calling for his head, too.

PLEASE tell us what sin Akin committed in line with the Democrat scandals? I can't remember the last time any Republican OR Democrat was denied funding from the party over an accidental verbal gaffe.

The gaffe is not what this is about. The extremely strong reaction is because the GOP establishment does not want abortion discussed in this election. They don't want to admit to their base that they are pro-abortion, and they don't want to be on the record as being anti-abortion, because then they might have to actually stand up for that cause after being elected. For the GOP elites, the less said about abortion, the better, because they passionately want the status quo to remain on that issue.

Any candidate for office on the conservative side, when faced with questions of this nature, ought not speak impromptu. The issue bears careful thought and choice of words. Once the words are chosen, however, they ought not be the words of weasels.

He sounds like a great guy who said something really, really stupid in a moment in which he was caught offguard. Unfortunately, we are in an age of soundbites. This one is a killer. If he leaves, as I believe he should, I hope there is another good conservative to take out McCaskill.

I think what he might have meant to do is distinguish statutory rape and violent rape (which he called “legitimate” to distinguish it from statutory where there is consent).

I've only seen the clip, but my impression was he meant 'legitimate' rape opposed to a woman simply saying she was raped in order to obtain an abortion. His contention was that biologically a woman's reproductive system shuts down during a rape, so conception wasn't an issue in 'legitimate' rape.

>> Are you suggesting the two comments are in the same league?

In terms of misconstruing words, yes.

>> but I’m more ticked off at his naivete about how dangerous the subject of rape (*any* rape) is.

And when Ryan is pressed for his opinion on abortion in the case of rape, what would you like him to say?

Maybe some consideration should be given to his remark that falsely claiming rape for the purpose of justifying abortion is not legitimate.

He had plenty of time to prepare that explanation for Hannity but failed to do it. Yours is another plausible explanation.

1. Clearly McCaskill’s preferred candidate supported by her $$$.
2. The only guy to say something dumber than Biden and divert all attention from McCaskill’s incompetence and cheating.

1+ 2 = 3 MUST RESIGN IMMEDIATELY.
