Wayne Brady Apologizes For Trig Palin-Jeff Ross Joke
Hollywood Gossip ^ | 8/20

Posted on 08/20/2012 7:45:07 PM PDT by TheBigB

This letter has taken me a few days to compose because of the conflicting emotions that I've experienced since the day of the Roast and it's subsequent airing. The environment of the Roast is a comedic (hopefully), tasteless (mostly always), affair that encourages everyone to out-filth each other. Not normally what I'm known for, right? But, when I was invited, I jumped at the chance to play outside of my perceived "norm" and have fun. The Jeff joke was written for me and at the end of the day I take full responsibility for saying it. It wasn't meant as a slam to Trig and at the time I didn't see it that way.

I could defend it as a performer, but I would rather apologize from the bottom of my heart as a father. I understand how a parent, who loves their child, who tries to nurture and shield them when they cannot defend themselves, would take offense.. I have many times experienced this feeling. I've had awful things said about my daughter.. Violent and most times racial stabs. Being in the spotlight I have built a thick skin to these sorts of things. My daughter ( who's now old enough to understand ) is another story. That being said I write this letter with sensitivity and a strong stance of responsibility for my actions.

I thank everyone who's expressed their opinion for reminding me that my voice is heard... It's easy to forget sometimes in front of cameras and lights.

To the Palins, please know that no malice or harm was meant. To the other families who were touched negatively, I hope you'll be able to accept this apology as well.

I've always said that people in the public eye should be held responsible for what you say and I'm no hypocrite. Thanks for reading and letting me express my side.

Take care all, Wayne

You know what Wayne, you frikkin’ jerk, I don't care how much you hate the Palins, no laugh is worth insulting innocent, defenseless kids.

So maybe think about showing a tiny bit of class next time before shooting your foolish mouth off. I know, class is such a rarity these days within the comedy scene, but maybe you could try to learn some.

This reminds me of what I’ve said to my children on numerous occasions, “no, you’re sorry you got caught.” Wayne, you got caught, and no doubt now you’re sorry. You should have thought about it before hand.

I could defend it as a performer, but I would rather apologize from the bottom of my heart as a father.

That assetion insults the intelligence of anyone who can read. The remark was indefensible and DESERVES an apology without such a disclaimer.

If one parses the sentence, it sounds like that he is asserting that comedy is an art form and as such comedians may take the dramatic license to be cruel and inhumane even if that cruelty is directed to a real person not a anonymous type or fictional personage.

Brady was taking a moment during the roast to insult fellow comedian Jeffrey Ross when he said “…a lot of people hate you, especially Sarah Palin because you remind her of what Trig is going to look like when he’s 40.”

Sarah always shows class. She and her family get trashed every single day and she is gracious as always. She looks at that beautiful child and thanks God everyday that he is here on this earth. Her family is what is the most important thing in her life, always has been, always will be. It amazes me how gracious Sarah can be throughout all of these horrible attacks her family has to deal with. She has a very strong faith in God who guides her through everything

Let’s call a spade a spade...

Had it been a REPUBLICAN comedian making jokes about Slasher and Masher, the media, Hollywood, the White House, the NAALCP, SPLC, the ACLU, and the Film Actors Guild would have been screaming for a public beheading in accordance with Sharia Law.

But because Brady is one of Holder’s people, he gets a pass? And even gets to throw the race card in his “apology”?

But of course not. Palin is the whipping b!tch of the Left. All’s fair, every day, open season and no bag limit.

Sarah did the only thing she could do, and that’s give a gracious nod. If she had done anything like the Left would do, she’d be scourged again.

Yeah right. And he played the race card in his "apology".

First, I have no idea who Wayne Brady is. I haven't watched television in nearly 12 years.

I get upset when leftists make claims of "race" when race is not the issue. Some of the "code words" they point to are not just hard to see, they are invisible.

That said, I see absolutely nothing is Mr Brady's letter, especially the line you quoted, that has anything even remotely to do with a "race card."

A little more apologizing might be in order here.

That is very low class... he should be very ashamed of that.

I thought he was better than that.

That will be hard to work off- he’d better get going now or it won’t happen.

You can do a thousand things right and one thing wrong and that will be your legacy.

Thanks 2DV!

Interesting that the Obama kids are off limits but it’s still open season for the Palin kids. No, Wayne, that was very bad form. Thought you were one of the good ones but I see that’s not the case. As if the slap down of little Trig isn’t enough, you did a gig for Barr.

Wayne Brady is truly one of the good guys in Hollywood and I appluad him for owning up to a tasteless, hurtful “joke”. I have no doubt that he got caught up on the moment and didn’t think about the affect this tasteless “joke” would have.

I vote we forgive him and move on. He apologized. If we demand a gallon of blood as well, it makes us no better than Democrats.

Brady is occasionally funny. Like when he did the skit with Dave Chappelle.

WARNING: Graphic language.

You nailed it.

They can bring up Palin’s kids but little Punishment 1 and Punishment 2 are off limits.

Go figure.

I vote we forgive him and move on.

I vote we don't.

He played the race card to mitigate his nastiness.

I say don't let the racist off the hook.

"Classy" except for this part:

I've had awful things said about my daughter.. Violent and most times racial stabs.

Had to make it about him, had to make it racial.

The part I clipped showed one nonsequitur, and careful readers will notice the “And” that began my second sentence.

He showed remarkable talent while in his twenties, doing “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”, I appreciated that too. That ends once the mask comes off. His came off.
