At this point, if he doesn’t withdraw from the race, he’s an a####le straight up. His funding is gone, his lead in the polls is over, he’s guaranteed to lose should he decide to ride it out, there are no positives in that situation. Now if he stands down, he gets looked at like he did a good deed, gets to try and rehabilitate his image and maybe give politics another shot in 2 years.
But he has to stand down, if not, here comes Senator McCaskill for another 6 years.

“At some point before 5pm CDT tomorrow, Akin will file papers to formally withdraw his name from the ballot. I realize today Akin was defiant and said he wasn’t a “quitter.””
Don’t forget all the staff that worked on his campaign and will now be out on their own. He owed it to his staff at the very least to not say “Poof! Goodbye!” after all their hard work for him.

LOL! Don’t get him too excited.

Other names being floated include former Sen. John Ashcroft and former Ambassador Ann Wagner. Wagner is the current GOP candidate to replace Akin in the House. One can readily imagine a deal where Wagner gets the nod to run for Senate and Akin gets to nod to reclaim his old House seat. A grand bargain for the Grand Old Party.GOP BS, this would stink to high heaven.

I hope so, but how does Mike Flynn know this? Is this just a hunch?

Wouldn’t the person who got 2nd place be the person next considered as the ‘winner’? Or do the winners have to have a certain percentage to win, even in the event of a disqualification (or other reason such as this)?

How the other candidates did in the Primary has nothing to do with it. The 15 Members of the Missouri GOP Committee will choose a candidate to fill the slot. They can pick Joe Kowalski in Podunk, Missouri if they want to.

JMO, I believe Akin should step down because this doesn't look like it's going away. The RATS are all over it and they'll stay on it to the election and McCaskill probably will be reelected, that's not an option at all.
Sarah Steelman should be the candidate if for no other reason than Brunner is the pick of the GOPe.
Sarah has the backing of Sarah and that will beat McCaskill.

After Akin withdraws the decision to name a replacement falls to the 15 members of the state GOP central committee.

Its a smoke filled room that decides these things.Figuratively speaking of course. It is a smoke filled area out some back door where the smoking gets done these days.
