‘Machine Gun’ Kelly: buyback takes 509 firearms off streets
New York Post ^ | August 21, 2012 | Jessica Simeone

A powerful Calico 9mm — with a 50-round magazine — was among the 509 guns taken off the streets at a Queens gun buyback and laid out yesterday at Police Headquarters.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, looking like a modern-day Eliot Ness in a sharp pinstriped suit and French cuffs, handled some of the more powerful firearms while showing off the deadly cache, which he said cost the city about $85,000.

“We think it’s money well spent,” Kelly said, as he surveyed the haul, which included an AK-47 and a TEC-9.

WPIX the local news station was behind this buy back. They were running commercials about let's fight back against the evil. They actually believe the nonsense that this buyback will stop all the shootings. Yet they never mention who does all this violence. They will not say that gangs like the Latin Kings and others are behind all this. Doesn't fit there agenda.

I was thinking the same...the most powerful they cited was the AK-47 ok not bad but I was thinking more along the lines of a .50 cal auto machine gun. Now we’re talking!

Also did they really take them off the streets? I bet 99% of them were buried in the back of Granny’s closet and only saw the light of day when Gramps had it out.

Gun buybacks are a good way for a thug to unload a stolen weapon or one used in a crime, no questions asked.

“How many of those guns were handed over by criminals?”

Rhetorical question, right?

We all know the correct answer is “ZERO”.

I defy Kelly to document the turnover of a SINGLE weapon by a known or suspected criminal.

It is. It was a Tory Sewer before the Revolution and Washington and most of his army thought the place was not worth defending and things have gone downhill steadly from there.

More than any other city in America, New York City’s “culture” is an extension of the degenerate western European Socialist thinking that reduced that part of the world to political irrelevance on the world stage. Its at the heart of the Kulturkampf against western civilization in America.

Its insidous tentacles have ensnared my own state (New Jersey) as well as Vermont and parts of southern Florida.

I stand by my statement someone so easily hoodwinked or so ready and anxious to give up their right and means of protection so easily they have at least in my mind demonstrated they have not the capacity required to be a responsible gun owner.

In the story, the majority of the handguns turned in were revolvers. So the thugs are turning in their obsolete 5 to 6 shot revolvers so they can buy modern up-to 14 shot semi-autos. Or turn in broken or cheaply made guns and take the money and buy new, high quality ones. Yup, sounds like a plan to me.

"A powerful Calico 9mm"

I thought you could not use the words "powerful" and "9 mm" in the same sentence?......

How many belong to naive old ladies who have no idea of their value

When my Grandmother's husband (not Grandpa) passed away, she was going to clear out his liquor cabinet. "Just junk it all", she said.

Dad and I got in the car and drove most of a night to rescue it. It was 1000's of dollars in (mostly) single-malt, and high-end blended scotch. Easily enough to stock a bar, and it kept us in high-tension booze for years.

The real prize was most of a case of turn-of-the century Napoleon Brandy. I literally fished it out of the trash. She was throwing it away "Because it was Old".

Don’t worry, the calibre of people that line up to cash in guns for chump-change aren’t smart enough to have acquired weapons of any value.

“We think it’s money well spent,” Kelly said, ...

It's money well spent from the same perspective that $85,000 worth of band-aids for the Alzheimer's ward would be money well spent.

It doesn't even begin to touch the root of the problem.

Can anybody put a FReeper up plus a job? I’m really getting tired of NYC and wouldn’t care if the whole place is plunged into the dark ages should some idiot in charge of the electrical grid pull a Homer Simpson and overload it.

She probably thinks a .22 could reach orbit.

I sent her a short, simple e-mail that read:

“Do you really think criminals brought those in?”

The area known as Brighton Beach, which is pretty much on the same point on the map as Coney Island, is mostly immigrants from Russia and the former Soviet satellite states. These are large Trump buildings (large for the area at least) full of people with all sorts of dialects with heavy accents. But they’re not only in that area.

There’s all sorts of housing projects around here with a huge majority of those people.

I like a .45. Enoguh to do the job but not enough to kill somebody in the next County. Besides, I have no need to shoot engine blocks.

A .58 500 grain minie ball backed by 60 grains of FF is even better, but that’s another story.
