Jay Leno on Tonight Show Layoffs: 'We've Been Taken Over By Bain Capital' By Noel Sheppard Created 08/21/2012 - 10:18am

Jay Leno on Monday addressed the recent announcement that there have been numerous layoffs at NBC's Tonight Show forcing him to take a pay cut to save some of his staff.

Feeling the need to take a cheap shot at presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, Leno quipped, “Turns out now we've been taken over by Bain Capital" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Leno began his opening monologue saying, “Welcome to the Tonight Show, or as Comcast calls us, The Expendables. That's right.”

After some laughter and applause, Leno continued, “As you may have heard, our parent company has downsized the Tonight Show. You know, and we've consistently been number one in the ratings. And if you know anything about our network, that kind of thing is frowned upon.”

“And more bad news,” Leno said. “Turns out now we've been taken over by Bain Capital. Oh, I can't believe that.”

I guess if you're a late night television host, it's imperative that every gag involve Romney somehow.

But Leno wasn't finished.

“See, I knew something was going on,” he continued. “Friday morning, I woke up and there was a peacock head in my bed.”

“But the good news,” said Leno, “the Tonight Show, it's still free to get into the Tonight Show. Bad news: it’s 100 bucks to get out. Okay? So please, have your money ready. Exact change if possible, though.”

Of course I'm right.

It's pure Alinsky.

"RULE 12: Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.” Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions. (This is cruel, but very effective. Direct, personalized criticism and ridicule works.)"

It's so simple even Bam-Bam the jug-eared wonder, chooming his brains out in a beat-up microbus, can understand it.

It’s all part of the wall-to-wall Liberal tyranny in America.

The anti-Conservative culture in this country is pervasive.

Since most of Americans have grown up with it, they don’t notice how insidious it really is.

With a wholesome and properly functioning MSM, there’d also be equivalent and simultaneous criticism at the expense of Liberals.

America will never be THAT sophisticated!

“Thanks for confirming your poor judgment and lack of discernment.”

You must not find a lot of humor in your day...
I would venture Romney would find Leno's line funny. And then Romney would quip back with something about Leno.

That's what Reagan would have done.

No Jay, you’ve been screwed gay style by your messiah Barry.

Now be a good little liberal sheep and just bend over for Barry. You know you like it. You know you do.

Actually they’re owned by GE, a major Obama supporter thanks to the alternative energy dollars that Obama’s been passing along.

Last night Letterman went after the Seal Team guys who are criticizing Obama for using the Bin Laden Death for Political gain. Of course there was no mention of the real issue of Intelligence Leaks from the WH.

He didn't use the term “Seal Team”, he just whined about people saying Obama had nothing to do with the Death of Bin Laden. I didn't bother watching the whole segment because I can't stand the guy.

GE sold NBC to Comcast nearly 3 years ago. Do try to keep up.

It’s not a joke unless everyone thinks it’s funny.

LOL

We watch Leno only in the 10 min to midnight slot. Headlines, Jay walking, talking photo booth, etc., that’s it. The rest is boring. His guests are usually the Hollywood Lib group pushing their new movie or show. Its no better with Zimmerman.

Johnny Carson probably batted from the left side but his jokes cut both ways. Unfortunately he’s never coming through those curtains again.

‘We’ve Been Taken Over By Bain Capital’................ Just thought of it, why not add “that’s the bad news, the good news is Obama is going to bail us out with tax payer’s money”!

It’s not about one single joke. It’s about the avalanche of never-ending propaganda.

I don’t remember ANY other pResident getting the kid gloves that O’Bastard has gotten. Even Clinton was fodder for many late night comedy jokes. And I’ve laughed plenty at good jokes about the right.

I bet in the four years that O’Barky has been pResident, Leno has told something like 3-4 jokes a night at the expense of conservatives and 1 weekly “cute” joke about Obama. Even the Obama almost always comes out as the good guy in the joke. It’s the crazy world or people around him that might take the hit. Not Obama.

Take off the blinders.

5 nights a week + 4 jokes a night + 4 years = 4,160 jokes about the right.

1 week + 1 joke + 4 years = 208 “cute” jokes for Obama.

4160 to 208...that is propaganda.

Not to mention, all the fawning that goes on during the rest of the show.

Humor as a propaganda tool works ... it turns peoples' brains off ... and they often don't realize they're being propagandized.

Pity.

Fortunately, it works for the good guys as well as the bad guys. See my link above.

“and they often don’t realize they’re being propagandized.”

I’m still amazed at how slow some people are to pick up on it. It’s so blatant and over the top how can they possibly miss it?

Frog in a heated pot, I guess.

Actually Leno is surprisingly non-partisan in his barbs.

He’s snarked about Zero, too. And of course Plugs keeps him and his writers awash in new comedy material.

It’s comedy, FGS! Lighten up...

I used to share that opinion until the American TV Comedy Industry set out on a mission to destroy Sarah Palin four years ago. Now they are Enemy Combatants.
