Hard to believe a man of his age and status could say such an ignorant thing

Kennard wrote -- .. plus, that a woman's body shuts down in the event of rape to prevent pregnancy.

Kleon wrote: That's not what he said.

Kleon is correct. What Akin actually said was: “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down."

That's my plain English interpretation of Akin's misstatement. The independent voter will believe much worse in November.

That's my plain English interpretation of Akin's misstatement.

A more correct interpretation would be that a woman's body is less conducive to conception during a traumatic episode, not that her body somehow shuts down entirely to prevent the pregnancy.

There is evidence. Not all women react the same way but most do. This would have been a GREAT opportunity to educate the masses in the truth but those who agree with child sacrifice will not test any hypotheses that will threaten their wallet. With Hannity going after Akin and listing all the RINO’s who want him to step down, I wanted to puke. So did God.

There is also "evidence" that global warming is going to kill us all in a matter of years.

This is a complete and utter trap and Akin walked into it, jumped up and down, and said spring your trap here now - I'm all in! It's also absurd medically.

Think about it. The issue here is how do you deal with what is a dual human tragedy. Rape and abortion. Both are tragedies plain and simple. They are both real plain and simple.

This man's idiotic statement has resulted in the national dialog being focused on abortion rights for women who have been raped. Not on the millions of children who have are killed simply for convenience.

His heart might have been in the right place even if his brain needs a CAT scan and MRI to see if there is actually something in there. That said - he has hurt the cause for stopping the killing of unborn children by focusing the debate on a miniscule issue that honestly is best addressed seperately from convenience killing.

A quick question - before you step into another trap - how does the woman's body "shut down" as you note? Does an already released egg do a u-turn? Does the womans body kill off the sperm? Does the body kill off a fertilized egg, or shed it from the uterus wall if it implants?

If you really believe life begins at conception, and you really belive a womans body can "shut down" a pregnancy aren't you really saying that a woman's body is automatically able to abort an unwanted pregnancy? And if a womans body is able to "shut down" that in a rape situation why is it not morally justified for her to actively choose to do so in other situations?

The BS supporting this idiot is amazingly dissapointing...

This whole thing against Akin smells very political.

Akin sounded pretty solid on Hannity’s radio show today.

Akin sounded well...it was Hannity’s incessant Liberal Whining “are you dropping out” that was quite unprofessional. My only problem with Akin was that he did not slam the phone down while Hannity was in his Pro-Abort Whine

The real reason the GOP is trying to run Akin is that he is totally pro-life, and the GOP, talk radio....is not. Plain and simple. Akin’s comment was wrong, but does not rise to the level of this RINO Pro-Abort witch hunt

A more correct interpretation ...

Some have suggested that Akin was referring to a higher probability of miscarriage. You suggest that "ways to shut that whole thing down" was intended to mean "less conducive to conception". There are several possible interpretations.

(a) Making a statement open to multiple interpretations on a hot-button topic for half the electorate that is not at issue in the campaign, which

(b) Akin never claimed was supported by scientific evidence, and

(c) instead of using your phase "traumatic episode", using the charged term "legitimate rape", once again open to multiple interpretations,

is a political hanging offense.

Hey Kennard— agree totally. And your plain Engish interpretation should have sufficed. After reading the “That’s not what he said” post, I went back and read what you wrote. You conveyed the essence of what was said, but I figured the other poster must have wanted someone to post the exact quote. So I obliged.

And that way people could compare what you wrote and the actual quote (which I found to be a great deal worse than your summarization).

If only he could have come out and said something along the lines of, “I’m sorry about the wording of that statement, but I happened to be channelling Joe Biden at the time.”

I don’t understand your comment. I don’t want either to win. Reread my last few comments.

The Congresswoman and Congressman are African-Ameircan Democrats. The left/mainstream media will never call them on their stupidity. They represent gerrymandered welfare districts so it doesn't matter.
Akin is a whitemale evangelical protestant.
