Obama, Democrats Bashing Romney Over New Pro-Life GOP Platform
Life News ^ | August 21, 2012 | Steven Ertelt

It didn’t take long for President Barack Obama and top Democrats to bash presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney on the issue of abortion following the Republican Party’s adoption of a new platform that opposes abortion.

As LifeNews reported, GOP leaders in the platform committee approved a strongly pro-life platform that uses similar language from past platforms calling for a Human Life Amendment to protect unborn children under law.

The platform reads, “Faithful to the ‘self-evident’ truths enshrined in the Declaration of Independence, we assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed.”

Responding to that, pro-abortion Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz aggressively attacked Romney in a conference call with reporters. She brought up the recent controversial comments from Todd Akin and said the platform doesn’t call for any exceptions for rape or incest and “was written at the direction of the Romney campaign.”

“This is just another example of a Republican Party led by Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan whose policies on women’s health are dangerously wrong,” Wasserman Schultz said, according to CNN news.

Meanwhile, the Obama re-election campaign told CNN that it would bring up the platform and point out a clear “contrast point” with Romney and Ryan on the issue of abortion in coming days. The Obama campaign has already been running commercials in battleground states attacking Romney and Ryan for their pro-life views.

“That is something that is important to a number of women and the people in their lives,” the Obama campaign official said.

Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL, joined Wasserman Schultz on the call and said, “It’s time for Mitt Romney to stand up for women, he should unequivocally denounce the Human Life Amendment in the Republican platform.”

The pro-abortion NOW group also called on Romney to repudiate the platform.

“Today, the Republican Party demonstrated again why Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are wrong for women in the U.S. The party’s committee platform approved an anti-abortion plank that champions a human life amendment to the U.S. Constitution without mentioning any exception for rape, incest or preservation of the health or life of the woman,” it complained. “Romney and Ryan should also condemn the platform’s encouragement of state laws mandating medically unnecessary ultrasounds and waiting periods.”

But Carol Tobias, president of the National Right to Life Committee, applauded Republicans for keeping the GOP pro-life.

“The Republican Party is the party of life,” Tobias told LifeNews. “The language adopted today makes a strong stand supporting the most vulnerable members of our society. We applaud the Republican Party and the dedicated members of the platform committee for reaffirming and renewing their efforts on behalf of mothers and their unborn children.”

I hope they keep it up, since the majority of Americans are Pro-Life!

Id rather support a party that is Pro Life and believes that unborn children have the right to live than support a party that’s platform this year will be allowing homos to get married

I’m of the mindset that we should just call abortion what it is - outright murder of children.

Any candidate who supports abortion supports murder. Wish our side would take them apart with this publically at every opportunity.

And they most assuredly will keep it up. They’re psychopaths.

Only a psychopath could support the murder of an infant and find multiple ways to justify and rationalize it.

This is a winning issue for us. I’m fine with Obama drawing attention to it.

Look for Dems to start referring to it as the Romney-Ryan-Akin
platform. Every spin generated by a Dem anywhere regardless of subject will end with the word “Akin”

Quite frankly, our pro-life stand is horribly muted when “incest and rape” are left out ESPECIALLY in light of Akin. It keeps it from being a pro-life argument and turns it into a “the GOP is anti-woman” one.

HUGE mistake.

I don’t think they should put this in front of the agenda. Many conservative women I know have differing opinions on this issue. It’s an issue that most will never agree on. Let’s talk about the economy, energy, gas prices, and the total failure that is Barak Obama. Leave the abortion issue out.

“Leave the abortion issue out.”

Too late. The debate has gone from an economical/Medicare debate that Romney and Ryan were winning to being bogged down about “legitimate rape” and magical functions in a woman’s body that prevents them from being impregnated.

The dem plan is only to get Romney to soften his stand so as to divide the republican base on election day. It has nothing to do with the fact that he is pro life. All they have to do is get one sound bite that sounds as if he is wavering.that is the plan.

The GOP doesn't even have a platform yet. They'll vote on one at the convention. Meanwhile at the White House . . .

The Romney campaign doesn’t need to be afraid of being pro-life because a majority of Americans agree with them. On the other hand, the DNC platform will have a statement endorsing ‘gay marriage’ and repealing the federal DOMA. Although Romney and Ryan shouldn’t allow themselves to get mired in the abortion or gay marriage issue, they need not run away from it. Every time Obama brings abortion up, call it murder and reject the concept that it’s a ‘right’ to kill a baby in the womb. If Republicans would stop tying to soft-pedal the abortion issue and confront it head-on, they could win. Unfortunately, they won’t. Well, maybe Ryan will to some extent. One hopes.

The Democrats have a lot tied up in the abortion and homosexual culture. They’re a real lucrative source of campaign funds for them. - Follow the money. - Encouraging women to make the choice for LIFE is a good thing. The abortion INDUSTRY is a sad thing, an evil thing.

It’s the right thing to do. And I’m proud to be a new member of a party of life.

But it could cost the election if the Republicans get sidetracked and don’t get the economic message going.

Keep praying for our country.

If the cause of life doesn’t win this time, we have to persist to the next election and the next.

I have to say, though, I think it’s really spooky how so many well-spoken and passionate voices for life have come to the fore in the past couple of years. Is God up to something?

“I hope they keep it up, since the majority of Americans are Pro-Life!”

That’s right, and Obama is not only pro-abortion, he is pro-infanticide.

Heard a snippet of Chris Matthews today played on the radio. He equated those acknowledging "personhood" status with "birthers" who question Barack Obama's paperwork.

Chris, you are NOT a practicing Catholic.

The partisan press trumpets the DNC talking point (that Obama denies using) that there is a “war on women”.

Meanwhile, they ignore the pro-abortion/pro-homosexual War On Children (whether it be infanticide or indoctrinating kindergarteners in same sex relations, fifth-graders in oral and anal sex, and condemning boy scouts to overnight unsupervised stays with homosexuals).
