Akin Tells Hannity That Romney Exploited Rape Statement Controversy For Political Gain
Mediate ^ | Tuesday August 21, 2012

Appearing on Sean Hannity’s radio program for the second time in as many days, Missouri Republican Senate candidate Todd Akin attacked the GOP’s presidential candidate, Mitt Romney, for joining a chorus of Republicans asking him to withdraw from the race. Akin said that Romney had blown the controversy out of proportion and implied that he had done so for his own political gain.

Hannity asked Akin, given the number of prominent Republican politicians asking Akin to drop out including Romney, if he is even pausing to consider leaving the Senate race in Missouri.

“Let me ask you this,” Akin began. “If you were in Romney’s position, don’t you think that he may have bid this thing up and made a bigger deal about it than he needed to?”

“Why couldn’t he run his race and I run mine,” asked Akin. “If things really look like they’re getting in trouble in Missouri than maybe — but he has just assumed.”

I keep on telling people to check this guy’s bank account, he is probably getting BIG money from Dems. Of course he is, only Dems would give money to this idiot. For them he is the gift that keeps on giving. What I dont understand is that before the primary, it was known that McCaskill wanted to run against this guy and people still voted for him. You would have thought Dems cheering this guy on would have been the ultimate red flag that something is wrong, now we are stuck with this guy, he refuses to leave. You can pretty much kiss defeating Obamacare goodbye, because of this nut we won’t be able to control the Senate now, unless we can go full ACORN and get dead people to vote for him

Just the first step in Romney’s plan to dismantle the conservative wing of the Republican party.

I am glad that there are people left in the world that don’t kiss the Romney shrine. Romney bashed his opponents with millions of dirty ads. Now, Romney is Mr. Clean (don’t think so where I come from). Romney’s base is the mostly the rinos and the ABO are giving him pass after pass. If people don’t vote him in for Missouri; it’s their own faults; not people who support the right to life. The left hate him as they do Palin. Reading the left wing blogs, not too much Romney hate so there you go. Toughen up, support your convictions, stop caving in to the media lies and we’ll win. If he doesn’t leave, support the man.

“The guy is a bonafide freaking idiot. Where the hell does he think his money is going to come from?...The GOP is going to give the idiot nothing. Missouri voters will probably give him very little. He is now a loser. If he had got out he might have salvaged a political career.”

Talk about burning bridges. His “career” on the Hill is over no matter what happens. See ya, wouldn’t want to be ya.

Akin definitely mis-spoke (in political speak) and it was an amazing gaffe. Almost Bidenish.. But, what’s more infuriating is these spineless rinos throwing a real conservative who earned his shot the hard way under the bus instead of standing up and saying ‘we don’t agree with Akin’s mis-statement, but we’re pro life, and he’s a good man.’ Geez.. I can’t stand politicians. May the Kingdom come quickly! Maranatha!

What if the Tea Party took on its first challenge to run an independent, a la Murkowski?

My understanding is that the Missouri barriers to third party and write-in candidates are pretty high. It's unlikely that the Murkowski strategy would be successful since Missouri has many more voters than Alaska and the only other time it worked was for Strom Thurmond in 1954. (I'm still amazed that a plurality of Alaska voters could spell "Murkowski".)

Like Rush said -- the Democrats circle the wagons, the Republicans form a circular firing squad.

Its the truth and I think Mitt will find that it was a serious stumble.

As my neighbor said, “I don’t know what the hell this has to do with us. I’m ready to just throw in the towel over these clowns.”

He is a conservative, the only Missouri Right to Life endorsed candidate. Try to do a little research. Free Republic used to be full of folks who knew what they were talking about. Maybe you’re the democrat mole, n00b.

Always good to throw your new (potential) boss under the bus before either of you are hired.

Akincide: suicide by ego.

Oh no, Mr. Akin, YOU did that.

Mr. Akin, you care not if we stay in the minority in the Senate, rendering us POWERLESS on Supreme Court candidate review.

I can't stand you more by the minute.

He is right. Missourians are gonna be cheesed off at Romney. Remember who won Missouri? Not Romney!

Next stop, MSNBC. This moron is really trying to piss off any friends he might have left.
Anyone in the MO Constitution party available? The local TPs in MO needs to take a stand against this obstinate fool.
Now, we have to hope and pray that we get at least two out of three with FL, VA, OH. ME is a sure loss. If WI, ND, MT are not wins, game over.

Stupider than the day before. I'm starting to be convinced that he's a Dem plant or a useful idiot...

Thank goodness we have a true conservative who's willing to stand up to RINO Romney. Isn't that the whole plan behind FR supporting Romney in the election? For conservatives to hold Romney's feet to the fire? Why do I get the feeling it won't work now? All the faux "conservatives" will instead be defending President RINO whenever the real conservatives stand up to Romney's liberal BS or call out his Clintonesque governing by poll numbers.

“It’s been a gold mine for Republicans.
All they have to do is repudiate his remarks- as Akin himself did- to appear ‘moderate’ on ‘women’s issues’.
So let Romney make a few points and drive Obama crazy.”

I had the same thought. Maybe the silver lining in all of this is that it helps Romney/Ryan distance themselves from future attacks on women’s issues because they immediately repudiated Akin?

He is showing that he has some HUGE blindspots and is not able to size up the situation. Maybe he is one who just likes the limelight, even if it is bad limelight.

Point is, Akin is hurting the right-to-life movement by helping keep the Senate under the control of the Democrat Socialists. His reason? -- "I WON" (has a familiar ring to it).

We'll never know for sure but I kind of have the same thoughts. Funny the timing! How convenient for Obama to get the exact distraction he needed that conveniently takes the edge of Biden's gaffes. Then it re-inflates the manufactured war on women while providing an angle to attack Ryan. All three needs are magically covered!! Amazing!

I've been hearing that Claire McCaskill spent money on his campaign. Maybe this is done all the time by opponents, who knows. If it is I've never heard of it.

Seriously, who says what this guy just said? Don't worry about rape, your body will just ward it off like OFF to mosquitoes! It's just WAY too ridiculous of a statement and WAY too convenient for the War On Babies crowd.

I'm going to go ahead and fit myself for the tin foil.

Romney isn't the boss of ANY conservative. Any Congressman or Senator who takes orders from that dirty, lying, liberal RINO Masshole won't get my vote. If Romney becomes President it will be as the lapdog of conservatives who must not let him lead the charge on any issue, but instead lead him around by his nose.
