ABOARD A US MILITARY AIRCRAFT US military chief General Martin Dempsey denounced ex-officers Tuesday for waging a campaign against President Barack Obama, arguing that soldiers had a duty to stay above the political fray.
Wading into a potential minefield during a hotly contested White House race, Dempsey voiced his disapproval of a group of retired military members and CIA officers who have accused Obama of spilling sensitive national security details to help secure his re-election.
Asked if the group's criticism was valid or useful, Dempsey, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, said he would not comment on the substance of their allegations.
But he added: "As to the latter, is it useful? No, it's not useful. It's not useful to me."

Unacceptable. Retired military and CIA have the right to free speech.
The top comrade is following orders. The civilians should call him a communist running dog.
And Kennedy, and Carter, and Bush 41, and McCain, and Kerry....
I’ve fully and wholly enjoyed exercising my 1st Amendment freedoms after serving over 20 years to defend them for others.
Once we hang up the uniform, we become CITIZENS again. Understood?
Your comments are duly noted, “sir”.
My thoghts exactly. Plus Andrew Jackson, U.S. Grant, Teddy Roosevelt, Ike, G.H.W. Bush, John McCain, and a host of others. Maybe the good General could take his own advice and stop shilling for Obama.
That helps confirm the charges, IMO.
We have a military subordinate to civilian leadership, we do not have a military obsequious to civilian leadership.
I will take this as your resignation, Dempsey.
Just how many former military officers actually did become President?
Let’s see, just off the top of my head:
George W. Bush
U. S. Grant
Of course it’s not useful to him. How friggin’ obvious, General.
That is a very good point.
“When we assumed the soldier we did not lay aside the citizen,” from then-Gen. George Washington’s June 26, 1775, letter to the Provincial Congress is inscribed inside the apse.
Note: The above quote was a favorite of Col David (Perfumed Princes) Hackworth USA (Ret.) (now deceased)
“There ain’t no ticks like poly-ticks. Bloodsuckers all.”
-Davy Crockett (unsourced)
He’s got it backwards, since he’s the one who’s active duty and ought to keep his mouth shut.
General General, really? You fight for the constitution and higher powers... Obama may be your commander, but if he is such a Queer star for you to die for in his arms, why don’t you come out the fracking fascist closet, Dempsey?
By the way, I did not renew my military stay because of queer leaders like Dempsey.
Moron on duty.
A perfumed princess sitting on his Pentagon throne? Gen. Martin, they now happen to be civilians and you’re in the active service so how about you stay out of politics by keeping your politics to yourself. So take your own advice.
General Dhimmitude will now be given the People's Army Liberation People's Medal, for his bravery in squashing the Tea Party Rebellion.
All you other Military offices better follow his example.
The headline should read: Political hack, General Dempsey, says veterans should stay out of politics.
They guy has a good service record, but Washington has a way of changing people as we all know. This guy ought to be on the side of the troops, not the Leaker in Chief.
He’s what we call a “Regular Army Clown.”
