ABOARD A US MILITARY AIRCRAFT US military chief General Martin Dempsey denounced ex-officers Tuesday for waging a campaign against President Barack Obama, arguing that soldiers had a duty to stay above the political fray.
Wading into a potential minefield during a hotly contested White House race, Dempsey voiced his disapproval of a group of retired military members and CIA officers who have accused Obama of spilling sensitive national security details to help secure his re-election.
Asked if the group's criticism was valid or useful, Dempsey, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, said he would not comment on the substance of their allegations.
But he added: "As to the latter, is it useful? No, it's not useful. It's not useful to me."

The officers he attacks are now civilians with full First Amendment rights. Did SecDef Panetta 'suggest' Gen. Dempsey go nuclear on these vets?
You bet he did.Demsey the liberal pawn.
Colin Powell has stayed out of politics, right?/s
General Officers are political animals. This guy is following orders.
Screw you Martin.
What a putz.
This group of patriots is 100% correct.
Tell that to this guy:
Cry me a large, gushing river, you obama boot-licker.
I have a visceral reaction to this general’s statement, and have been searching for a polite way to express it. I can’t.
So F’ you general!
Dishonorable Disclosures (22:00 Youtube video)
Special Operations (OPSEC) (website to get involved)
Have those veterans with a voice raised any select fingers toward this general in an appropriate salute of respect as of yet?
“soldiers had a duty to stay above the political fray”
Seems Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower disagrees with your understanding of the First Amendment, sir!
Not when they're out of the service. This guy is an Obama tool. Lobbying for a second term?
In other words: sit down, shut up, and eat your peas since you have no free speech rights as American citizen ex-GIs. Wh does general a44wipe think he’s kidding?
Another Perfumed Prince, like Wesley Clark.
Good order and discipline should require active duty officers to keep their opinions to themselves. But once they are out of uniform then the restriction is off and they should be free to express their opinion, same as every other American.
So General, why are you getting into the political fray?
I Guess he expects all former military people to just roll over and play dead for his god Obama.
Well as far as that go's,I stay with the Constitution over Obama any day.General Dempsey,We know where his loyalties lie.
Unacceptable. Retired military and CIA have the right to free speech.
The top comrade is following orders. The civilians should call him a communist running dog.
And Kennedy, and Carter, and Bush 41, and McCain, and Kerry....
I’ve fully and wholly enjoyed exercising my 1st Amendment freedoms after serving over 20 years to defend them for others.
Once we hang up the uniform, we become CITIZENS again. Understood?
Your comments are duly noted, “sir”.
My thoghts exactly. Plus Andrew Jackson, U.S. Grant, Teddy Roosevelt, Ike, G.H.W. Bush, John McCain, and a host of others. Maybe the good General could take his own advice and stop shilling for Obama.
That helps confirm the charges, IMO.
We have a military subordinate to civilian leadership, we do not have a military obsequious to civilian leadership.
I will take this as your resignation, Dempsey.
Just how many former military officers actually did become President?
Let’s see, just off the top of my head:
George W. Bush
U. S. Grant
Of course it’s not useful to him. How friggin’ obvious, General.
That is a very good point.
“When we assumed the soldier we did not lay aside the citizen,” from then-Gen. George Washington’s June 26, 1775, letter to the Provincial Congress is inscribed inside the apse.
Note: The above quote was a favorite of Col David (Perfumed Princes) Hackworth USA (Ret.) (now deceased)
“There ain’t no ticks like poly-ticks. Bloodsuckers all.”
-Davy Crockett (unsourced)
He’s got it backwards, since he’s the one who’s active duty and ought to keep his mouth shut.
General General, really? You fight for the constitution and higher powers... Obama may be your commander, but if he is such a Queer star for you to die for in his arms, why don’t you come out the fracking fascist closet, Dempsey?
By the way, I did not renew my military stay because of queer leaders like Dempsey.
Moron on duty.
A perfumed princess sitting on his Pentagon throne? Gen. Martin, they now happen to be civilians and you’re in the active service so how about you stay out of politics by keeping your politics to yourself. So take your own advice.
General Dhimmitude will now be given the People's Army Liberation People's Medal, for his bravery in squashing the Tea Party Rebellion.
All you other Military offices better follow his example.
The headline should read: Political hack, General Dempsey, says veterans should stay out of politics.
They guy has a good service record, but Washington has a way of changing people as we all know. This guy ought to be on the side of the troops, not the Leaker in Chief.
He’s what we call a “Regular Army Clown.”
PLAN is looking for a few good running dog lackeys, General.
Be all they'll let you be.
These high ranking 4 star generals are nothing but political butt kissers. They screw the troops to make their own gain. I dealt with many, many of these types in my 20 years. They were political officers, in the game to punch their tickets and make that next grade, on the backs of the troops. I had some really great officers also who cared for the men and women and would break their butts for us, and most of the time get into trouble for doing it. I frankly can say that I did not like 80% of the officers I worked under. My NCOs by a massive margin were better than the stinking political officers.
Did you forget George H.W. Bush?
There is video of him being picked up out of the water after bailing out of a plane somewhere.
Next he’ll be telling soldiers not to vote (conservative soldiers, that is).
So it's all about him and whether retired soldiers are "useful" to him? This guy just confirms more politicization of the military by liberals
It's all about you, eh Marty boy?
Some people work their way to the top, others just sucked their way.
You are not their commander, Dempsey, they are retired with all Constitutional protections though Obambi and possibly you don't like it.
George HW Bush, John Kennedy
