A West Virginia man arrested while running in desert camouflage with an AR-15 training rifle is a member of the Virginia National Guard who served a tour of duty in Iraq, and his father says he's not a terrorist.
Stephen Alemar tells The Hagerstown Herald-Mail that he believes his 23-year-old son, William Alemar, was just trying to stay in shape for his next military assignment when he was arrested near two Martinsburg schools on Monday.
William Alemar was charged with committing a terrorist act after police found him carrying two knives and ammunition clips, and wearing a bulletproof vest.
Alemar remained in the Eastern Regional Jail on Tuesday on $50,000 bond.
His attorney, Chris Barnhart, didn't immediately return a telephone message, but Alemar's father said his son didn't mean any harm.
"He's not a terrorist," he said. "He's not a bad kid."
Stephen Alemar said his son graduated from Massanutten Military Academy in Woodstock, Va., and joined the National Guard after he failed to get into the U.S. Naval Academy.
Army spokesman Ray Gall said records confirm that Alemar enlisted in January 2007.
William Alemar is assigned to the Virginia National Guard's Company B, 3rd Battalion, 116th Infantry Brigade Combat Team in Woodstock, Va., according to West Virginia National Guard spokesman Lt. Col. David Lester.
Alemar deployed to Iraq from July 1 to Dec. 6, 2011, Lester said, and was assigned to Task Force 183 for convoy security duty.
Martinsburg police discovered after they arrested Alemar that the gun he was carrying fires pellets, not live rounds.
A search of Alemar's home found additional military equipment, which police seized as evidence.
You’ve got to be kidding me. I had to check to see if the author of this article was John Semmens before I posted any reply.
A National Guardsman, who even the Federal government doesn’t try to argue is not a militiaman, cannot go about in public, with a pellet gun? This is what the “right to bear arms” has come to in America?
So now an honorable veteran can’t even train without getting arrested. Apparently a pellet gun is an instrument of terrorism. Fifty thousand dollars bond?? This nation has gone insane.
This nation has gone insane.
Yes.
Just making an example thats all.
I wish this was unbelievable.
My son just enlisted in the USMC. He has to go train with the other poolees once a week ‘til he leaves for basic, but that’s not enough to keep him in shape. He often suits up in camo trousers and desert boots and takes a five-mile run through the woods and fields near out house. This could have been him. He owns a couple of pellet guns. When I read this story to him he was shaking with fury. First the guy in Virginia who was arrested for suggesting on FB that the 9-11 was a missile attack (stupid, but not illegal to think that); then this. He said (loudly and colorfully), “I am going to spend the rest of my life working and sacrificing to pay for what that [expletive deleted] has done to our country, and so is everyone else in the service, and this is how they treat us? When we’re just trying to stay in shape, or to hunt for food?”
Congrats to your son on joining the Corps. Its a testimonial to you.I’m affraid for our kids.
Martinsburg is a liberal hell hole and the once beautiful, historical downtown is now a ghetto with a few tourist traps.
I have to say I was surprised in a way when we took “hikes” as a group in full battle with weapon while I was deployed in a foreign country. I was really taken aback one day riding the Harley through Roanoke to see a line of soldiers doing so in the US. No one else seemed to even notice. Curious. One soldier is frightening but 100 aren’t.
The Fort Hood killer is not a terrorist but this guy is?
Of course hes a terrorist! Hes in the US Army! Hes a war veteran! Just ask Homeland Security.
I wonder if the additional military equipment seized was his issued field gear.
His mistake was being armed in the liberal part of WV. Do that in Raleigh or Fayette County, and he’d be called over to ask whether he liked EOTECH or Aimshot sights better.
Between this, the treatment of the Seals, the Marine thrown in a psych eval ward for Facebook postings...
They are nibbling us to death and we are doing NOTHING to put a serious stop to it.
OK. Sounds good. Are you going to get suited up and lead us to go burn the jail down? You really will be a “Dead Corpse” if you try.
John Kerry considers him a member of a (war) criminal organization.
With apologies to liberal hellholes ... I don't go there if I don't have to. It's not clear whether the bedwetting pansies responsible for his arrest were within the Martinsburg Police, or the government schools.
You appear to lack the one thing necessary to even contemplate action... Courage.
This is why we are in the sorry state we are in...
When all is outlawed, we all will be outlaws.
Wearing a bulletproof vest is a terrorist act now???
fortunately, the commie bastards will have to have a main push eventually to implement their *final solution*...
hopefully we are all able to realize the push and respond accordingly...
today, in this atmosphere, the PR battle is being protected by allowing this to stand...sooner or later, the PR wont mean sh!t and the pushback will be more than these 'authorities' ever imagined...
You’re probably right. I’m just a middle-aged suburban lady, and I don’t know anything about attacking police headquarters. I will need someone to lead the action.
So when are you going to organize the attack?
That isn't going to work out well...
When works good for you? I'm certain you have a full social schedule, so we'll wait until you can find the time to come join the festivities...
Amen Brother...but i believe the attempt to *ghetto* us will hopefully be the signal of the aformentioned push to the final solution, and the PR game will be done...then all bets are off, and the trained and competent leaders will need to mobilize...hopefully, they already have persons and equipment in place, or at least on stand by...
I’m a middle-aged lady with asthma and a bad back. Courage or not, I’m not much good at armed insurrection. You’re the one who wants to go burn the jail down. You do it. You live in Virginia. Go for it! < /sarc>
Talk is cheap. If you’re not prepared to do it, to actually organize something, then don’t accuse others of lacking courage because we’re not attacking government buildings ourselves. I might well accuse you of the same thing. If you had courage, you’d organize an insurrection and attack the government. Right?
I tell you what, go back to your soaps and American Idle... We'll try and figure out how do get this done without your expertise...
Unless you actually do it, you have quite a nerve criticizing everyone else for not doing what you won’t.
Ping us all when you’re done burning the jailhouse.
Congratulations to you and your son on his enlistment.
Tell him not to work out by any schools. ;)
Thank you. I’m a very proud Marine Mom.
Actually, we had a talk about this. We live in leftist Maryland where many people are frightened of guns. I warned my son to be very cautious because in today’s political climate, people can misunderstand if they see a guy in semi-military attire. They assume everyone is a psycho killer.
...if he was burning an American flag and calling for Jihad against Americans, no one would have said or done anything.
Thus is life in Obamaland......
“and the once beautiful, historical downtown is now a ghetto “
Is it a REAL ghetto, or just a bunch of art galleries, gay bars and grossly overpriced bistros?;)
What will Obama say about this? I mean this time the police really DID act stupidly!/s;)
Yea, he killed children and rampaged like Genghis Khan.
So, the bottom line is that he had a pellet gun and he’s STILL in jail?? That’s like giving someone a ticket for speeding when they are standing on the sidewalk, but have a car at home in the garage.
Why can’t people see what is happening to us? Will they even notice when they are being loaded in the cattle cars?
Hysteria \Hys*te"ri*a\, n. [NL.: cf. F. hyst['e]rie. See
Hysteric.] (Med.)
A nervous affection, occurring almost exclusively in women,
in which the emotional and reflex excitability is
exaggerated, and the will power correspondingly diminished,
so that the patient loses control over the emotions, becomes
the victim of imaginary sensations, and often falls into
paroxism or fits.
[1913 Webster]
Note: The chief symptoms are convulsive, tossing movements of
the limbs and head, uncontrollable crying and laughing,
and a choking sensation as if a ball were lodged in the
throat. The affection presents the most varied
symptoms, often simulating those of the gravest
diseases, but generally curable by mental treatment
alone. Hysteric
he could put an eye out with that thing...
The Fort Hood killer is not a terrorist but this guy is?
#######
The Fort Hood scumbag isn’t a Christian. According to the Feds Christians, Constitutionalists, people who oppose killing babies, are all potential terrorists. Mohammedans are not.
Every guardsman and veteran in the state should be demonstrating in front of the police station until this man is free.
If we had a real Justice Department, the cops, the judge, and the prosecutor would be in federal custody awaiting trial for violating the soldier’s Constitutional rights under color of law.
I only actually go downtown during Martinsburg Bike Night.
Everybody suddenly ‘remembers their manners’ for 8 hours.
[that and Bike Night is sponsored by the Blue Knights police motorcycle club who are out in force]
:)
I’m about 25 minutes away.
Let us both know when ~you’re~ going.
/patiently waits
A fascinating combination of the two...depending mostly on whether you’re there at night...or not.
*I* wasn't aware of the gay bars.
another fail. I know, let’s start report off-duty police officers for having a gun in public. I am sure they would enjoy it as much as CCW permit-holders and open-carriers do.
"According to my opinion, and the opinions of many defectors of my caliber, only about 15% of time, money, and manpower is spent on espionage as such. The other 85% is a slow process which we call either ideological subversion, active measures, or psychological warfare. What it basically means is: to change the perception of reality of every American that despite of the abundance of information no one is able to come to sensible conclusions in the interest of defending themselves, their families, their community, and their country. ... Good post at 45.
Evidence of what? Running with a pellet gun?
http://articles.herald-mail.com/2012-08-20/news/33292383_1_martinsburg-police-martinsburg-schools-rifle
An Army National Guardsman who was carrying a training rifle and wearing military desert camouflage and a ballistic vest was arrested Monday morning after he was spotted running near two Martinsburg schools, police and military officials said.
Monday was the first day of classes for the 2012-13 school year in Berkeley County.
William Everett Alemar, 23, of 1013 S. Raleigh St., Apt. 3 in Martinsburg, was charged with committing a terroristic act and wearing body armor while committing a felony offense, according to police and court records.
Alemar was being held Monday night in Eastern Regional Jail on a $50,000 cash-only bond set by Berkeley County Magistrate Sandra L. Miller, according to court and jail records.
At 7:17 a.m., Martinsburg police received calls about a man seen running while carrying a training rifle in the vicinity of Bulldog Boulevard and South Raleigh Street, Martinsburg Police Lt. George Swartwood said in a news release. Martinsburg High School and Martinsburg South Middle School are across from each other along Bulldog Boulevard.
Martinsburg Patrol Officers Michael Jones, Craig Richmond and Erik Herb encountered the man in the area of Silver Lane and South Raleigh Street in full military desert camouflage and ballistic vest and with what appeared to be an assault rifle across his chest, Swartwood said in the news release.
After engaging him at gunpoint, the officers ordered the man to his knees and then to the prone position before seizing an AR-15 (M-4) training rifle from him, according to the news release.
Swartwood said Monday night that the rifle has the look and feel of one that shoots bullets, but it shoots pellets. Two knives and several unloaded magazines also were found in the mans possession, according to the news release.
His ballistic vest contained ceramic panels, which make it more bullet-resistant, according to police.
Police said the man indicated he was out running and jogging while wearing his gear, according to the news release.
The primary concern for the police department was that subjects proximity to the area schools Martinsburg High School, South Middle when he was first located off Bulldog Boulevard, Swartwood said.
No explosives were found in a search of the mans apartment Monday afternoon, but additional military equipment and a training pistol, similar to the rifle in its function, were found and seized as evidence, police said.
Alemars father, Stephen Alemar, told The Herald-Mail on Monday that he believes his son was running with his gear to stay in shape for his next military assignment. Alemar said his son returned home in December from deployment in Iraq, where he had been assigned to a special forces unit. Hes not a terrorist; hes not a bad kid, his father said.
If it was a training rifle then it is what we refer to as a “Rubber Duck!” Meaning that it is a heavy peice of amalgamated plastic with a piece of rebar in the middle for weight(sometimes an old M-16 barrel) but nothing that is more useful than a club! This is just more police activism in the name of “peace and safety!” I hope it turns out well for this Soldier.
