BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The Louisiana Supreme Court has refused to stop the launch of Gov. Bobby Jindal's statewide voucher program, which began this month.
The high court denied an injunction request by teacher unions and school boards to stall the voucher program as they challenge whether it is constitutional. A hearing in the court case is set for October.

Jindal should proceed full-tilt with the progam and commit totally, financially. When the case comes to court in October, he can then claim irreparable financial harm to parents and students and the state if this progam is denied by the courts. Put some committed money in parents’ pockets and count on them to protest loudly if it is taken away.

No reason why money (3 to 4 x what private schools charge) should go to failing public schools.
Vouchers are the way to go. Introduce competition into the education marketplace.
Simply burning dollar bills would do more good than letting even a penny go to a teaching union.
Remember, when you absolutely, postively, undoubtedly cannot cut the mustard in college in any other course, you can always major in “education.” If the Obamadork’s mentor (and book writer)- Ayers - can get a doctorate in this silly subject, that says it all.

The teacher unions have ad after ad explaining what a wonderful job their members are doing here in Louisiana and how much they care for the children.
I don’t how much good the vouchers will do but folks, it does my heart good to hear the squeals of stuck pigs.

It's not a trick question. A logical outcome of a voucher program is that the public school system becomes a remedial academy of sorts. This isn't necessarily a bad thing as the problem becomes too stark to ignore. It is the inverse of NCLB-meets-inclusion where every classroom becomes a one-size-fits-all environment and everybody loses. The hurdle to be faced is that public school classrooms will be 92.4% minority, 96.2% poor, and the race pimps and their ilk will have a major cow.
Not very “pro-choice” of them, is it?
I believe the Louisiana legislature, governor, and Supreme Court have told them, in advance, what they can do with their cow.
As a real suggestion, perhaps the state, or individual districts/parishes, could pass a "sunset date" for the public school system. After that date, anyone who was not using the voucher to pay for education would be considered neglectful, and the children could be placed in apprenticeship programs, if appropriate, or directed into a suitable private school. There could be a "default option," taking into account the needs of individual students, for those children whose parents refused to choose a schooling option themselves.
Louisiana is a Right to Work state.

The long term strategy to destroy the power of the teachers union is to reduce the need for “skilled” teachers. This can be done by having the Dept of Education fund the development of a modular multi-platform course delivery engine. Then make this engine freely available for download.
Normally I’m opposed to using government funds in the education but this would open up a new market for quality education modules. This would also facilitate home schoolers to select the modules that work best for their student. In the classroom environment, this would enable the teacher to be more of a facilitator and even enable a higher class density.
Public schools in poor urban areas will tend to be those that are worst off - it’ll be those predominantly poor minority parents who are most likely to try and get their kids out of the failing system.
