Democrats are working to make a Missouri congressman's controversial comment about rape an issue in the heated 7th Congressional District race.
Republican Rep. Todd Akin has come under fire from politicians on both sides of the aisle for saying in a televised interview that a woman's body has the ability to block pregnancy in cases of what he called "legitimate rape." He has apologized for the remarks, but rejected calls from Republican leaders and politicians, including presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, to drop his U.S. Senate campaign against Missouri Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill.
Rep. Dan Lungren, R-Gold River, denounced the comments in a statement posted to his campaign Twitter feed Tuesday.
"As a husband and father, I was deeply disturbed by the recent comments of Todd Akin," he said. "The ideas he expressed are simply incomprehensible."
His opponent, Elk Grove Democrat Ami Bera, and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee sought to tie the Republican incumbent to Akin. Bera, who has worked as a physician, targeted Lungren's support for legislation aimed at cutting federal funding for abortion in a release issued Tuesday.

RATs are desperate beyond words to describe their insanity, IMO.
Had Akin withdrawn immediately, as a sane person would have done after realizing the stupidity of their statement, this issue would be dead.
Instead it is consuming the race and killing the momentum Romney was starting to bid.
Akin’s hubris may wind up taking down the whole party.
The best and brightest Bee brains are at it again.. I stopped buying the Bee when they blamed us for 9/11 attacks.. we just don't try to "understand" the rest of the world. Oh.. they did acknowledge that we were only part to blame.
I agree. They look ridiculous. It is becoming all too obvious that they want to talk about anything other than the state of the economy, the debt, the massive deficits, and Obamacare. They want to distract from issues rather than offer solutions.
Good, the suckers are wasting their money instead of spending it on something that might actually be effective.
Yes. On the decision of one man, civilization itself hangs in the balance.
The movie 2016 will bring everyone back to reality as well as the Special Ops YouTube, “Dishonorable Disclosures.” The American people are big-time angry and nothing the RATs do will pacify us.
The hourly BS coming from the Left proves they think their old playbook will work again. The fact is that the patience of the American people is over. Barry and the Left’s corruption and lies have been exposed and we want them voted out and gone come November 6.
What the hell is “legitimate rape.” Someone want to tell this scuba diver what the heck He was trying to say?
And this shut down business, Need some help there as well
Ya know the old adage..
Never pass up a chance to toss cowpie..
The AKIN-ization of an entire party’s candidates is sickening but not unexpected from a group of desperate maroons like the DEms.
Nobody in the English speaking word had heard the expression “legitimate rape” prior to the genius’ from Missouri invention of it! And to this day nobody knows what the genius meant by it.
If the Pro-Abort PhonyCons would just shut up...go back with their Democrat friends...and get off Akin’s case. He is not going to quit...get over it. The Pro-Life Conservatives won.
Yes they are... Just think, the week of Dem convention crappy jobs and economic data will be coming out and they will be talking about abortion.. This could back fire on them.
Seems I remember reading about the head of an abortion clinic who quit when she saw a video of an actual abortion. That video needs to be shown at a dem convention since it is what they are wanting to be defined by.
They need to get off these distractions thrown up by the rats and focus on the economy.
If American only knew...
The best Obama exposure site on the net:

Just a few of the pages:
The PeePee & Cooter Party, hard at work. The rank and file can spend all their time becoming experts on their private parts, because BigBrain Obama takes care of thinking about the hard stuff.
Way to paint inaccurately with a broad brush... It is because I am pro-life that I want that idiot Akin to quit.
Is the best treatment for a rape the murder of a baby?
At this point, Akin is as big a threat to the pro-life movement as Obama is.
And so it starts.
Akin is radioactive. The commie press will repeat his insane remark 24 hours a day every day until hes gone, using it to try and tar every other Republican in 2012 and to avoid having to report on the economy and Obamas record in general. This is what the commie media have been waiting for: a way to define Republicans as extremist nut jobs, and Akin is their perfect storm. I dont care who he is or what he stands for, Akin has simply got to go. Period.
I have it on a high authority that you don’t need abortion for “legitimate rape”. You only need to “put some on ice on that”.
Yes. Women are also people, and people are really sore about the economy.
The Dems are fighting the wrong battle. They need to spend a lot of money lying on economic issues.
No -- they would have still used it because they saw how hot and bothered the pro-abortion wing of the GOP and Mittens was about it. If Mittens had only kept out of it and kept his mouth shut about it, it would have been a local Missouri issue and that is all.
You are mistaken.
Romney expressed no position on Akin until after Limbaugh, Hannity, Levine and about 2/3 of the FReepers had gone off on Akin. And none of the above are members of the pro-abortion wing of the GOP.
Needless to say, the MSM was already in full-throated cry.
Akin's problem is not that he is pro-life. It is that he evidently isn't bright enough to express a coherent defense of the pro-life position and has put an otherwise winnable Senate seat at risk.
Rather than defending Akin, we should all be asking him to resign so that a reliable pro-lifer who can express themselves coherently can actually win the seat.
IT’S THE ECONOMY, THE ECONOMY, THE ECONOMY, THE ECONOMY, THE ECONOMY, THE ECONOMY, THE ECONOMY . . and I repeat T-H-E E-C-O-N-O-M-Y!!!!!
1) We just came off the Chick-fil-A triumph
2) Dems says stupid things all the time
3) Let’s stop running from the Media, and what people say/think
We can win this, and cut the heart out of Media attacks on Conservatives.
That is not at all accurate - it was a major national issue long before Romney said a word about it and it was viral on the net and being covered by all networks devoting a huge amount of time to the story. Allen West, Mark Levin, Sean Hannity, etc. are not a "pro-abortion wing" of the GOP.
i highly suspect “SeminoleCounty,” who joined just two months ago, is a election-time meddlesome troll.
What I’ve found esp. with liberals is that they don’t understand the difference between a person being a liberal, conservative, moderate, libertarian, etc. having their own opinions and beliefs about so many different issues and how they vote. So I just find the most outlandish thing a democrat ever said about something (which isn’t hard because there’s so much) and say well you must agree because they are a democrat. Sometimes they get it.
It’s all they have to talk about. They sure don’t want to talk about the economy of socialist Mexifornia!
The mantra would have been look the Republicans force Akin out because he exposed to the world what Republicans really beleive.
I have heard several people surmise this is the case.
I don’t know him very well except he has served a long time and is very conservative.
How would the dems take a guy like Akin and flip him?
No clue how that could happen, do you know something or just speculating?
The scenario of him flipping sounds like a movie script, and blackmail.
