Researchers Studying ‘Cloud Brightening’ To Curb Global Warming

While many scientists have some dire warnings against us trying to geoengineer our way out of the climate crisis, others don’t necessarily see it that way and are working on new methods to solve the problem.

Researchers at the University of Washington’s College of the Environment Institute are studying the idea of cloud brightening, utilizing ships to shoot salt water high into the atmosphere over the oceans in order to create long-lasting cloud cover. The additional clouds reflect more sunlight back into space, resulting in a cooling effect on the planet. In order to encourage discussion amongst other climate scientists, UW atmospheric physicist Rob Wood detailed how a small-scale experiment to test the idea would work in a paper published in the journal Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society.

“What we’re trying to do is make the case that this is a beneficial experiment to do,” Wood said, adding that because geoengineering is controversial he “would rather that responsible scientists test the idea than groups that might have a vested interest in proving its success.”

The frightening thing is that this would almost certainly work, and global climate is a nonlinear system. If they can "nudge" temperatures two degrees cooler than they otherwise would have been, we could easily enter a completely new climate pattern - potentially an ice age. The indications we have suggest that an ice age gets triggered far too often for me to be willing to play with the system.

Accidental anthropogenic global warming does not scare me, but geo-engineering does, since an ice age would be unpleasant for most of us.

Not to long ago if any one would seriously propose something like this, they would be either laughed at or some guys in white suits with large butterfly nets would show up and take them away for a nice long rest in a padded room.

Today, not only are the not dismissed as kooks, they are actually taken seriously in the news and they actually given tax money to study their ideas.

I miss those saner times

Not too long ago, our Nation believed in God, and trusted in His judgement. Now we have turned our backs on God and trust in men. And men are inherantly foolish.

Now Biden and Obama is our leader in life. I miss those saner times too.

This reminds me of the idiot who designed an artificial tree to convert CO2 to Oxygen.

Someone suggested why didn’t he just plant a REAL tree?

Water vapor is a major greenhouse gas. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenhouse_gas
Introducing more humidity into the air than nature intended sounds like a bad idea.

Great! Brighten the clouds (if this is even possible) just as we are entering a significant solar minimum period. D.A. dufusses....

"Cloud brightening", huh?
Clearly, we need to do something about "global warming", and fast!

Climatologists are pessimistic that political leaders will take any positive action to compensate for the climatic change, or even to allay its effects. They concede that some of the more spectacular solutions proposed, such as melting the Arctic ice cap by covering it with black soot or diverting arctic rivers, might create problems far greater than those they solve... The longer the planners delay, the more difficult will they find it to cope with climatic change once the results become grim reality.

This whole thing sounds vaguely racist, we need to hear from Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson on this issue I think.

This idea is no less “genius” than the Martian rover scam. For untold billions, they have landed a machine on Mars to verify what they’ve already known for decades. Mars looks a lot like the desert Southwest, populated by a lack of water, a lot of dust and rocks, and absolutely nothing of real interest. For an over-degreed and little educated bunch of grown up children, we have spent billions upon billions for their personal hobbies. This scam should go on for three years or so until they dream up their next scam. Heard of any scientific breakthroughs from the space station lately?

We don’t need to cool the earth.

Unlike this POS for pResident, I for one will NEVER bow before any man.

And I'm pretty sure he isn't a leader. No, I AM ABSOLUTELY SURE HE ISN'T A LEADER.

David, David, David. You are asking the right question about your goal: “ - - - solve the problem - - - “

But you may need to look at HISTORY.

Suggestion:
Rule Number One in the History of Science: NATURE ALWAYS WINS.

Rule Number Two in the History of Science: Rarely are any stated Scientific goals ever achieved.

Discussion: David, keep your day job.

Well, I guess the Chemtrails “geo-engineering” didn’t produce the desired effects. LOL!

I recall getting “Conspiracy Theorist” sh*t here over such things in the past, just like the recently revealed “silent black helicopters” used to get Osama. Proud Birther and 911 Truther as well! Flame away!
