Wrong, onyx. Romney and the GOP know they're guaranteed her voters no matter what those voters swear, vow, and declare. The GOP-E knows most of those vows are empty. As FR has confirmed.
Come 2013, the only thing that will matter is what you voted for. There's no voting "against" -- and about a gazlilllion pathetically hopeful and scared gutless Republicans and conservatives are going to learn it harder than they ever have before.
No matter what you hope or threaten or expect to do once he's in there, Romney will consolidate power in moderate Republicans and Democrats. If he gets a landslide, he'll have a Flagship Republican "popular mandate." And he'll do exactly what he has always done: advance liberalism and squelch conservatism -- with YOUR PERMISSION.
A popular landside would be hailed as "an electrifying cultural validation of Romney's progressive brand of 'Republican.'" You had better pray that the bastard only gets a plurality.
Romney is going to cost too much -- see my tagline. He already has cost Free Republic, the last stand -- so much for "hold fast." Eternal Vigilance has pointed out that Romney has been able to make more Republicans abandon more principles in two weeks than Obama could ever even hope in a lifetime to achieve. EV has eyes to see.
Only bad can come of elevating an agent of such bad stuff as Romney. It's as hard a rule as gravity. It is one of God's rules, not man's.

Why do conservatives cave in to the GOP-E?
1. They have no other choice in their minds IF they want a shot at actually voting for the top 2 contestants. I actually agree with that analysis; I just don't agree with the sentiment. There is a conservative choice in this election.
2. The major reason they capitulate, though, is their willingness to allow the media to decide their mindset....even their own media sources. If Hannity, Rush, Coulter, Drudge, Ingraham, et al say that "there's no other choice", or say "Akin is a dog", or say "We gotta support TARP or the sky will fall", or say anything IN CHORUS, then they fall like dominoes.

Don't give in to the capitulators. Hang in there. Some of us have been here for more than a decade and we are disappointed in what Free Republic has become, but it is only because those of us who are willing to stand for principles are either sitting quietly or have moved on. I will stay and fight. Free Republic means a lot to me even though it is now overrun by appeasers and capitulators. Our job is to bring them back into the fold. Our job is to convince them to stop their retreat and turn and fight for conservative principles.
IMHO Jim Robinson made a mistake by backing the Romney/Ryan ticket before the convention. Free Republic was the rebellion and I had hoped that we would continue our rebellion through the convention and let it be known that if Romney is going to win this election he will need to do it with the Liberal votes he seems to covet. Now he can take the conservative votes for granted only because we fear Obama more than we cherish our principles.

The chaos that was expanding at FR was counter productive to Freeper efforts compounding, to get down ticket real conservatives elected. Freepers are not liek the majority of conservative voters. We tend to influence conservative voters and enliven them to get out and do something to change the dynamic.

I am not spitting at Freepers. I am calling on them to stop capitulating to political correctness and stand up for those conservatives who have been carrying the torch for decades.
Akin is a good, solid conservative with a voting record unmatched by just about any conservative in Washington. Unfortunately soooooo many Freepers have gotten on the bandwagon to crucify him that it speaks ill of this forum. If you are not willing to come to the aid of your Friends, then you are no better then your enemy.
I saw that interview when it first aired. I have reviewed it again.
Palin must say at least five times, probably more, that illegals should not be rewarded. Okay, sounds great. She also talks about steps she will take to secure the border. Okay, that sounds great too. “Whatever it takes.” I’ll take her at her word on this
Then she proceeds to list a process where the illegals here are registered, and allowed to stay here. O’Reilly pushes her on the issue of jobs, and she silently acquiesces to the reality that these folks will have to be allowed to work. Otherwise, we have to support them.
Guess what, THEY ARE REWARDED. They become legal under this program, and gain access to all the perks that come along with that.
What happens when these folks are given a green card. They are then allowed to enter our work-force. In addition, they are all allowed driver’s licenses. They have to get to work, don’t you know. Once you have a driver’s license, it’s a gateway document to get other things.
We voted against giving illegals licenses. Now Palin joins Obama in registering them, thus making them legal, and by that allowing them to get those driver’s licenses.
At no time does Palin talk about sending illegals home, unless they don’t participate in her program. And why wouldn’t they? It’s the gravy train to beat all gravy trains.
So what we have here, is a massive registration program. It’s a massive body of workers that can now legally replace U. S. citizens since they’ll work for less. They can work for less, because they are perfectly happy to live three to five families to a single family dwelling. They are also willing to live in sub-par housing. Are you willing to do those things, so you can afford to take less wages?
It’s a massive body of people who will in six years or so, be able to apply for citizenship. Once a green card holder has been here for six years, they are eligible to start to the naturalization process.
And lets stop here and address what happens if they are prevented from applying. La Raza, MALDEF, and every other illegal immigrant support group, will bring suit in federal court to demand they be treated just like any other green card holder is. The Mexican consulate will take action on behalf of the Mexican government. And in short order, federal judges will have stricken down the inability of green card holders under this program, from applying for citizenship. Of course that’s if our politicans don’t wilt first, which is exactly what Palin is doing here. Palin hasn’t thought this far ahead, and or is going to get one whomping surprise when this reality sets in.
Then what takes place? Then these people can bring in family members from their home country.
Yesterday I was nosing around looking at what green card holders can do, and I saw something that concerned me, because it looked like they may also be able to bring over family members when they themselves only have a green card.
Today I believe we have between 20 and 35 million illegal immigrants inside our nation. What happens if each of them brings over only three family members? What happens if they bring over six?
I don’t think Palin has thought this through completely. She gets the border part as far as I can tell. She is still clueless about the ramifications of legalizing those already here.
Then there’s the issue of how many illegals are here. Palin still quotes the government that pretends that we only had between one and two million new illegal immigrants arrive on our soil since the year 2000. Twelve years, only 1 to 2 million, and Palin recites that number as the figure of illegal immigrants we are to be dealing with.
If ten million new illegal immigrants came over from 1990 to 2000, what possible rational explanation can be used for only 1 to 2 million coming over from 2000 to 2012? We know that Bush’s talk of amnesty enticed illegal border crossers, driving up drastically the numbers during his first term. Border agents were completely over-run. In one nine month period it is documented that the INS took over 900,000 illegals into custody. That’s a rate of 1.2 million per year, just the arrested ones. Traditionally the INS has reported that they only take 10 to 20% of the illegals crossing the border into custody. (and I’m being generous here, it was laughingly referred to as 10% or less) They can’t catch them all. The rest pass through.
We’re supposed to buy off on only 1 to 2 million coming over in twelve years? No. And yet, Sarah Palin agrees to it?
And then again, there’s the issue of Reagan. She not only allows O’Reilly to denigrate Reagan on the issue, she actually joins in. She agrees that what Reagan did was wrong. Little does she realize, that she herself is planning on starting the process for between 20 and 35 million illegals. And if you extrapolate out what that entails in short order, it’s devistating.
Reagan agreed to the immigration bill of 1986, only after making sure the laws on the books were stiffened, that border agent numbers were increased, and that employers would face stiff sanctions. He signed off on it thinking only 1 million had come over in the (aproximate) prior thirty years. This still alarmed him enough to cause him to want to fix it. And then future presidents refused to have their Justice Department enforce the new laws. So whose fault was it again? Bush, Clinton, Bush, and Obama, that’s who.
Raids stopped. Employers were given a green light. Government services were extended. Reagan didn’t sign off on any of this. He did sign off on a program that did just the opposite. Was Reagan to blame? Absolutely not, but Palin hadn’t studied this issue enough to be able to defend Reagan. So she reinforced O’Reilly’s brain dead charge.
Reagan was assured that only one million illegals were in country in 1986. When he signed off, 3.5 times that many scampered into line, to take advantage of the amnesty. Was that his fault? No. He was lied to, just as we are being lied to today. Did today’s politicians learn anything from that fact? No. And today, we know for certain we are being lied to again. And yet, our bright shining examples of Conservatism (which I do not buy into for a moment) are poised to sign off on a program that will legalize between 20 and 35 million foreign nationals on our soil, start them on a process, and thus usher in the most massive shift of humans in the history of planet earth, and all in under the next twenty years.
Adding insult to injury, each of these new immigration “FIXES” tacks on a plan to vastly increase the amount of foreign nationals that can enter the U. S. with work permits. The reasoning is, allowing increased flow will end the need for illegal immigration. NO IT WON’T! McCain’s plan allowed in 1-2 million to start, but it also allowed that figure to increase by a percentage each year based on the prior years numbers. “Well, employers used all those people, so we probably need more.” Thus the number is increased AUTOMATICALLY. It was in the legislation.
Okay, what is 2 million people per year for twenty years? Why that’s forty million people. So not only will we have between 20 and 35 million people made legal, not only will they bring over between (3 ea 20 to 35 mil) 60/105 million and (6 ea 20 to 35 mil) 120/210 million family members, but we can also tack on that 40 million on top of it all. And then there will be the illegals on top of that. Some people for whatever reason, will continue to cross illegally. A good share of them will have criminal backgrounds that prevent them from crossing legally.
Mexico has around 100 million in population. It’s birth rate is around 5%. This means that Mexico all by itself, can send over 5 million people per year, and never reduce it’s population. In 20 years, that’s 100 million people. And that doesn’t even take into consideration the people from all the other Latin American countries south of our border, or the people who wish to come here from other places around the world, and continue to sneak in.
Do you begin to see why this is such a hot-button issue with me. Do you begin to understand why merely registering illegals and allowing them to stay here is destructive to our nation?
Look at the problems we have with foreign nationals today, and the powerful lobby they have now. Try to imagine the powerful lobby they will have with approaching ten times as many people in merely 20 years.
So no, I’m not a big fan of Sarah Palin on this topic. She’s in way over her head on it.
We have got to get serious about this problem, and Palin isn’t facing reality on this matter.
1. Seal the border - Palin gets this
2. Cut off ALL government goods and services. Every last bit of it.
3. Fire up inland enforcement. Make raids. Close down businesses that don’t get it. Place business owners and managers in prison. Stiffly fine private individuals who hire illegals.
4. Provide transportation to the illegals who need it to get back to the border of Mexico. Pay the air fare of people who live elsewhere, and send them home. It will be cheaper, and far less destructive to bite the bullet, and get it over with.
5. Clarify the 14th amendment so that it can never again be used to create the anchor baby. It never did, but since it has been abused, fix it. Simply add a clause that addresses the abuse of illegal immigrants. A person must be here legally, for their child to be considered a citizen.
6. Give Mexico one year to clean up it’s drug cartel problem. Warn it, that if it doesn’t do it, we will. And while we’re at it, inform Mexico that when it’s citizens or troops fire into U. S. territory, it’s going to be considered at act of war. We will put an end to it on the spot with lethal force. At that point, it will be up to Mexico whether the incident escalates beyond that.
The Mexican government needs to be put on notice. We’re not going to continue to be it’s dumping ground. Either it gets it’s act together as a nation, or we’ll consider doing it for them.
We have a great deal of respect for the Mexican people. As a people, we deserve to be treated with respect too. And starting right now, we will be one way or another.
We also need to tell the Mexican government, that it needs to provide more oportunity for it’s people and drastically improve their lives.
Anything short of this, is not a fix. It’s an inadequte bandaid that doesn’t cover the wound, and so the wound gets worse by the day.
Claire winning a reelection is what is at stake, NOT the martyrdom of Akin.
The Republican party is so ingrained, that I’m not sure you can simple create a new party and replace it. You wind up with a party that holds on to half it’s members, and a new party that has the other half.
Even if you’re successful, you’ll have a problem with ex-Republicans moving the new party Left.
To me, it seems like taking over the Republican party and bringing it into line with new goals, eliminates at least the duality problem. It also does away with the Liberal element, if the party elites deem that to be the goal.
Right now, they want none of this.
Look, Perot almost did it in 2000, and may have actually done it if he hadn’t gone mental. It can be done, but try after try has failed. That’s why I remain skeptical.
I think the Tea Party is a good move. I like what it’s been up to. Then again, it isn’t fool-proof either.
Remember that Palin addressed the Tea Party and told them McCain was one with them. This is one example of how the old crusty Lefties are passed along to the new effort. I know a lot of folks are impressed with her, but she really isn’t as well grounded as they believe. Her immigration plan is abysmal in my estimation. Some of her candidate selections have been misguided.
If you think a third party is the way, I’m not going to give you a hard time over it. Just look back at all the attempts at that. I think you’ll understand where I’m coming from.
