Todd Akin Was Never Accused of Rape -- Unlike Bill Clinton
Townhall,com ^ | August 23, 2012 | Larry Elder

Which is worse, Rep. Todd Akin's, R-Mo., ignorance about human anatomy -- or the way Republicans jump, run and hide when the Democrat-media complex decides they should?

Akin is the Republican candidate for a crucial Senate seat in Missouri. In an interview, he said that he believed that pregnancy following an act of rape is "really rare -- if it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut the whole thing down."

Incredibly dumb. The married father of six, including two daughters, apologized the next day and then recorded an ad apologizing yet again. That, at the very least, should have satisfied his Republican supporters. But, no.

Akin's opponent, Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., and Democratic PACs spent $1.5 million on behalf of Akin to ensure his Republican primary victory over two other Republicans that experts considered surer bets to beat her. Unfortunately for McCaskill, Akin was leading in the polls before the gaffe. Akin's stupid comments were just what she was hoping for.

Never mind that the "offended" McCaskill rode to election in 2006 by calling President George W. Bush a murdering racist. Oh, yes, she most certainly did. Bush, said McCaskill during the campaign, "let people die on rooftops in New Orleans because they were poor and because they were black"!!!

After this hideous smear, why didn't the race-card-playing McCaskill resign from the race? But, yawn. Crickets. Media mute.

Republicans, hoping to take back the Senate by picking off the vulnerable McCaskill, also drop-kicked Akin. Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus urged him to "step aside" and "let someone else run, to actually give ourselves a better chance of winning." Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, head of the National Republican Senate Committee, threatened to withhold $5 mil previously promised to the Akin campaign.

President Obama, whose party chair routinely accuses the GOP of engaging in a "war against women," condemned Akin's remarks as ignorant: "Rape is rape, and the idea that we should be parsing and qualifying and slicing what types of rape we are talking about doesn't make sense to the American people and certainly doesn't make sense to me."

"Rape is rape," said Obama.

President Bill Clinton plans to speak at the Democratic convention in North Carolina. Clinton, some might vaguely recall, was accused of rape by a woman named Juanita Broaddrick. "Dateline NBC" aired her allegations against the then-Arkansas attorney general and gubernatorial candidate.

Here's what Broaddrick alleged: "I first pushed him away. I just told him 'no.' ... He tries to kiss me again. He starts biting on my lip. ... And then he forced me down on the bed. I just was very frightened. I tried to get away from him. I told him 'no.' ... He wouldn't listen to me." To this day, former ABC reporter Sam Donaldson is the only national reporter to ask Clinton about Broaddrick's allegation.

Then there's Kathleen Willey, who on "60 Minutes" made a credible allegation of sexual assault against Clinton. Willey, a Clinton campaign volunteer, says that Clinton, in the Oval Office, took her hand and place it on his aroused genitalia: "He touched my breasts with his hand ... and then he whispered ... 'I've wanted to do this ever since I laid eyes on you.' ... He took my hand, and he put it ... on his genitals." Willey said she managed to push him away.

Let's not forget Paula "drag a hundred-dollar bill through a trailer park, you never know what you'll find" Jones. Alleging that then-Gov. Clinton propositioned her and exposed himself in a Little Rock, Ark., hotel room, Jones sued him for sexual harassment. Jones alleged that a state trooper escorted her to a room at the Excelsior Hotel to meet Clinton. Clinton dropped his pants and, according to Jones, asked her to "kiss it." Clinton later paid Jones $850,000 to settle the sexual harassment lawsuit that Clinton long claimed lacked merit.

Akin is supposedly a chauvinist retrograde. But there is an absolute, media-observed no-fly zone over Clinton, a man variously accused of rape, sexual assault and harassment by three different women. Why Republicans show so much deference is bewildering.

What about the allegations of sexism -- in the supposedly pro-women Democratic Obama White House? Pulitzer Prize winner Ron Suskind was given approved access for his book "Confidence Men." White House Communications Director Anita Dunn, whom Suskind recorded, complained about the anti-woman "frat house antics" atmosphere in the Obama campaign: "This place would be in court for a hostile workplace ... because it actually fit all of the classic legal requirements for a genuinely hostile workplace to women." What?!

But, crickets.

Many folks are fed up with cowardly Republican leadership that crumbles before the Democratic-media complex rather than shines a light on its hypocrisy. My advice to Akin? Hold a press conference and announce, "I'll resign when Bill Clinton apologizes to Juanita Broaddrick and Kathleen Willey." Then watch the contributions pour in.

Game on.

Thanks for your post
Like I posted on another thread I have heard that reasoning used by ProLife groups in the past

So it wasn’t new to Akin’s response

And since he is so close to prolife groups I am sure that is where he received his information

He should have phrased his answer in a better manner

However the response from the GOP leadership is pathetic including Sarah Palin who disappointed me with her comments
Once again they cower from the MSM and let them frame the issue

I’m in Missouri, and I’m so damn sick of hearing the way the media has destroyed this man.

There is a Democrat in Minnesota who is running for office and was caught having gay sex with a 17 year old boy at a roadside rest stop, and he’s not dropping out.

Whether to abort a child from rape is the most important issue out there? I’ll bet the pregnancies from a rape in MO. could be counted on one hand. We have got to do something about the communist media in this country, or it’s all over.

Better order some more ammo, cause it ain’t gonna happen.

Ditto regarding ideological purity. Politics is the art of the possible. We fight hard for our principles, but when not enough people agree with us, we are faced with a choice. In Massachusetts it is Scott Brown or Elizabeth Warren. Well, that damn Scott Brown just said he is pro-choice. I am going to show him. I will hold my breath. I will stomp my feet. I will not show up at the polls and let Elizabeth Tonto Warren win the seat. And so instead of getting 80% of what we believe, we get zero. The other side has consolidated its grip on power. But we showed them.

In Missouri, only a fool, such as the candidate himself, believes Todd Akin can win. Yes, it is unfair what happened. The leftist media has too much control. The game is rigged. So voters in Missouri are faced with a choice. Stand on principle, continue to support Akin, and let McCasKILL have the seat. That seat may make the difference in control of the Senate. Or they can demand that Akin get out and actively work toward that end. Akin is an arrogant ass who believes only he can advance the pro-life position. He says it is not about him. Yeah, Todd.

If I may, here is an analogy about ideological purity. A guy who lives in a high crime area does not believe in violence or guns. We may disagree on self-defense and think he is foolish, but we can respect him because he stands on principle. In a home invasion robbery he cannot defend his family and they are murdered. He can feel proud of himself for standing on principle. But he has a dead family. What did he accomplish?

"Rape is rape," said Obama.

Then why does our legal system differentiate between violent rape and statutory rape?

Listening to interview where Hannity berated Akin the way he did and the way Levin went on about it all was absolutely disqusting. Rush wasn’t much better either.

It’s as if everyone bought into the lie spread by the lefty media that Akin stated women CAN”T ever get pregnant by rape. And anyone who is honest knew what he meant by “legitimate” as opposed to Norma McCorvey rape.

Akin is an engineer and his statement he said ‘from what I understand from doctors, that’s really rare.’

Dr. Fred Mecklenburg MD
Dr. John C. Willke, M.D.
Dr. Eugene F. Diamond, MD

“Eugene F. Diamond, MD, Professor of Pediatrics and Past Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine, wrote in the “To the Editor” section of the April 11, 1985 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine:

Pregnancy is rare after a single act of forcible rape. In a prospective study of 4000 rapes in Minnesota, there were no pregnancies. In a retrospective study covering nine years in Chicago, there were no pregnancies. In a prospective study of 117 rapes there were no pregnancies among either the 17 victims who received DES or the 100 who did not.”

But then you always hear that if an Akin or an O’Donnell loses, its because the Republican Party did not support them enough. Some conservatives think that they can run a 100% pure candidate and if they lose, its not because of their positions or the candidate, its because the establishment undermined the candidate. I have no love for the GOP establishment but as you said, you have to be realistic. As unfair as it is, Akin is now toxic. If he loses, its not going to be because the GOP didn’t support him.

Hold a press conference and announce, “I’ll resign when Bill Clinton apologizes to Juanita Broaddrick and Kathleen Willey.” Then watch the contributions poor in.

Then watch the media reports stop! Except for republican pundits.

The right answer for everyone is “The voters of MO will decide whom they wish to elect, based on whatever criteria they decide, including what they may say or do”

Indeed it is!

Legislators.

What do I look for in a legislator? A solid citizen? Not really. A decent family man? eh, what do I care who he is screwing. Albert Einstein? Nope. I want someone who would cast his vote on a given piece of legislation exactly as how I would vote. That is it. If there was a scumbag conservative against a sainted liberal, I would vote for the conservative every time. Do I care if the guy who takes my toll is an alcoholic? Do I care if the waiter in my favorite restaurant cheats on his wife? What the hell do I care as long as he gives me good service? I know this may not go down very well with many people here, but if I was in Missouri, and I thought Akin was going to vote the way I thought 90% of the time, I would wait in line to pull the lever.

One of the problems that I had with Obama running for president (and this applied to McCain as well), was that they were legislators. All you got to do is go into a big room and cast a vote. Who cares about the negative consequences? Who cares about the implementation? Who cares about the costs? Just cast your vote and get to that meeting with the lobbyists. You tell the folks back home that you are on their side and wait for re-election.

So, I don't care if you are the village idiot. You vote the way I think, you have my vote. (Of course, if you voted in accordance with the thinking of fhayek, it certainly would imply a superior intellect). Look, democrats say stupid things ten times a day. Nancy Pelosi said that paying people to do nothing (unemployment) actually helps the economy. That didn't seem to hurt her support on bit. I will not let the media make up my mind. Akin was wrong, but on his worst day he is far more right than the lowliest democrat.

Guess who the Rats have scheduled to speak at their GOP Against Women night during their NC Convention? Bill Clinton. Yes the Rats have chosen the worse woman abuser to talk about how pro-woman the Rats are. How can the Rats keep a straight face?

I hope you feel great about yourself with this post, “Blowhard” seems to cover it. Take a good look at post #4 and think over your answer. Akin said he was basing his words on those of doctors. He wasn’t lying. Young girls do have the tendency to lie about being raped.

For the record, Bill Clinton has NEVER denied raping that woman Miss Broderrick as he denied having sexual intercourse with that woman, Miss Lewinsky.

For the record, Bill Clinton has never been asked in a public forum whether he raped Juanitta Broderrick.

A public denial could give Broderrick a day in civil court even though she will never get the day to tell her story in criminal that she deserves.

If Akin really wanted to stir the pot, he would ask why is the Democratic Party the party of women's issues when Bill Clinton cannot even deny an accusation of rape which was both credible and sworn to under oath by the accuser?

Why is the Democrat Party the party of women, when Teddy Kennedy took Mary Jo Kopechne swimming while she was sleeping in the backseat of his Oldsmobile? Not to mention Uncle Teddy taking his nephew on spring break where William Kennedy Smith evidently did something to get himself accused of rape.

And the Kennedys are still abusing women as Mary Richardson Kennedy's suicide appears to be in part caused by her public humiliation by her husband RFK Jr.
