Obama Administration Upset / SEAL Will Release First Hand Account of Mission to Kill Osama Bin Laden

A Navy SEAL is releasing the real story on the Osama Bin Laden raid.

For the first time a member of SEAL Team 6 has written a book setting the record straight on the raid on Osama Bin Laden’s compound in Pakistan. The book was not authorized by the Obama Administration and will give the real story not told by the Obama-media. The book was vetted by a former special operation’s attorney. The majority of the proceeds from the book will go to charities that support families of fallen Navy SEALs. Reuters reported:

The U.S. government was surprised by the news that a Navy SEAL who participated in the raid on Osama bin Laden’s compound in Pakistan has written a book about the operation in which the al Qaeda leader was killed, U.S. officials said on Wednesday.

“No Easy Day: The Firsthand Account of the Mission that Killed Osama Bin Laden” was written by a Navy SEAL under the pseudonym Mark Owen with co-author Kevin Maurer and is to be released next month on the anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

It was not vetted by government agencies to ensure that no secrets were revealed.

Man, another great point! “Mark Owen” could very well be the white house staff writers, er, reporters. They’re acting all upset then the book will come out making obama the hero. And right before the election.

If this is the case this book will be quoted over and over at the dem convention.

“2016 opens this weekend in over 1100 theaters. “

Went to a regular meeting yesterday morning, for a group of political conservatives. The group gets together to talk about and support conservative candidates and ideas.

The movie was brought up and half the people raised their hands having seen it.

I was embarrassed as I hadn't heard of it as yesterday morning!
I will go this weekend.

Even if this "SEAL" who wrote this book has left active duty, there's no doubt he signed a non-disclosure agreement (SF-312) upon discharge.

If this did not have the tacit approval of the DoD and administration, this author would be looking at prison time.

Especially if his name has been revealed. And actually, the DOD would be able to figure out who wrote it anyway, just based on who was there. Have to wait and see how it goes, but this looks fishy to me.

Obama is already credited with writing a book (of now-known lies) that somebody else wrote. Now it’s his turn to write a book of lies that somebody else claims to have written.

Unless the authors are either suicidal or else know that the military leadership will cover their back on this, this book will say exactly what Obama wants people to believe.

Will anyone be surprised if Obama’s people leak the SEAL’s actual name and home address? I hope not, but with Obama, it would not shock me.

Yes and no.

NDA applies to Confidential, Secret and Top Secret, as well as EEFI — you promise to keep secret the secrets you know.

As long as no EEFI or compromise of classified data was revealed, then no foul. This is especially true if open source information is out there to demonstrate the info was already released. . .like the leaks from the WH. And he did have a former SOF lawyer do a review. I am also sure he ran the book past Team members for their take on compromising sensitive data/info, as their LIVES are at stake.

Approval to write a book after retirement is not necessary, strictly speaking. The review is to officially get a reading on questions of classified information.

Retired officers and enlisted write and get published letters to the editor all the time. They also write books (”Nickel on the Grass” by Col Phil “Hands” Handly, for ex), and don't run it by the DOD for approval. They also appear on TV as commentators and they never obtain approval.

If classified or EEFI is compromised then they would be in trouble. . .hence the review. If on active duty, then they MUST do the review, regardless.

But other than that, no real risk at all.

I made my statement on the assumption classified material was included. If he was only rehashing open source info that's already been de-classified or leaked, the book wouldn't really be making much of a stir.

Again, admittedly it's an assumption on my part, but I would think that any new specific knowledge or information that this guy could offer by virtue of his status as a SEAL and participant in the mission would still carry at least a SECRET classification.

Can’t Obama just declassify whatever he wants? Isn’t that a problem for anyone trying to stop or prosecute him?

Thanks for the clarification.

Because the book has not been published/released, I have my own thoughts.

I think the SEAL will be providing a different perspective as to the mission and how it went down. I think it instructive when the author talks about the number of times they were stood up with a “go” order and then told to stand down. . .political in-fighting in the administration, for sure.

I think no new classified is leaked, or EEFI compromised.

I think embarrassment of the administration is certainly a given when it is revealed as indecisive, incompetent and downright gutless. . .then leaking the info. . .that is the most important part, the book will likely point out how the guys on the line were appalled at the leaks and the risk they were now facing because of partisan hacks trying to score points.

Cheers.

It may just be the way my mind works, but IMHO, if the Obama administration had (real) issues with the book, and thought it stood to embarrass them, they'd pull out all the stops to keep it from being published, including threatening prosecution.

The administration doth protest too much in this case; lots of bluster but no action, which leads me to think it's probably going to be flattering or at least neutral to the administration, or be a nice companion piece to the upcoming movie.

Frankly, I truly hope I'm wrong on this.

Yes, I understand.

“Prior restraint” is a big first amendment issue and the government cannot actually stop publication unless they go to court and prove such publication would harm troops or national security.

That is why I think they know the book will embarrass them and that isn’t enough to even get the 9th Circuit Court to back them.

The Messiah may be trying to lean on the publisher to stop publication, but because of the news release and drafts already out there, any leaning would be ineffective and cause more interest in the book.

The Messiah and his butt-kissers lost this one. . .can’t try and stop publication (need court support), and they can’t force the publisher to stop publishing because then people would REALLY want to know what’s in there. So, they just stew in their anger. . .

But that’s just me.

I preordered a hardcover copy of the book and will also order a kindle version when my new kindle arrives. It’s hard to claw back a hard copy.

“It was not vetted by government agencies to ensure that no secrets were revealed.

[HOWEVER]

“The book was vetted by a former special operations attorney. He vetted it for tactical, technical, and procedural information as well as information that could be considered classified by compilation and found it to be without risk to national security,” Christine Ball, a spokeswoman for the publisher, Dutton, told Reuters…”
