If cops with rifles are requesting to be at public schools, its time to take your kid out of the public schools.

Because without armed guards, public skool just doesn’t look enough like prison...

It’s a rural, downstate, small town.

wrong, it's one of the fastest growing communities in the chicago sw burbs. if you haven't been there in 20 yuears you wouldn't recognize it

I haven’t been there in years. Last time I was there, it was just tornado bait.

Actually, in this period of heightened security concerns, the police should be allowed to park tanks and armored PC carriers at all schools and public events. As a matter of fact, all public facilities should contained secured containers with rifles for the use of the police. As a maater of fact, instead of rifles, they should be given machine guns. All schools should have gas canisters secured for the exclusive use of SWAT teams. A few wire guided missles should also be included. Perhaps tactile nuclear weapons should be considered.

Now, with respect to the war in the air, are drones enough?

I have just about HAD it with these maniac cops and police groupies who support this kind of alarmist paramilitary police force. The PBA and FOP with their minions in the legislature have no ability to sate thier appeties for sophisticated military technologies, increasing staff, and grossly inflated salaries.

I have a BETTER idea. Pull back ALL our military forces from Iraq, Afghanistan and all those other places like South Korea and western Europe. Put them on our southern borders. Get the National Guard back into civilian life in local jurisdictions so they can be called up in the case of a military emergency with real ease in the event we HAVE one and want serious military personnel drawn from professional citizen-soldiers, and not a collection of unionized elitist overpaid Keystone Kops.

If we want to fight Islam over THERE - DO IT. But create a larger army to do sdo and stop tiptoeing around with special “rules of engagement”. If we had THOSE back in the 1940s we would be speaking Japanese or German - if we were still alive.

In HS ‘63-’67 Chicago NW Suburbs, we had a rifle team and practiced after school at the on-site range. We kept our target rifles (Mossberg 144LS w/ 10x Bushnell Glass), 7-rnd LR mags, .22LR ‘brick’ ammo and paper targets in our hall lockers w/ combo padlocks. I don’t remember a single ‘massacre’ in those 4yrs.

Also in BSA, we did NRA competition in 50s & 60s; I’m an Eagle Scout, Class of ‘63.

The department is specifically requesting to keep long guns such as AR15s in locked gun safes at the schools
..........................................................
So the Police would have to respond the the school for the shooting and hope the guy doing the shooting is somewhere other than where they have their police weapons locked up?

This doesn’t make sense to me . Put them in their trunk or at the Police building, but don’t leave them at the school.

If the long gun is kept in the officer’s office and the shooting is elsewhere, like the gym all the good it will do is give the officer an excuse to flee the scene: I was going for my rifle,”. Not to cast espersions on officer’s in general, they are armed and will use their radio and side arm until maybe someone else shows up. Most schools don’t have multiple officers, maybe Chicago does, I can see why they would. What about arming the teachers? I had one coach who was ex navy and a golden gloves boxer. I expect he’d have been willing and able.

Did anyone else learn to fire a rifle in school when they were kids? I learned at the after school center in NYC.
I went to HS in a NYC suburb (W. Hempstead) and was looking at my HS graduation book (1965) the other day.
Quite surprised to see we had a rifle team which I don't recall at all.

"If cops with rifles are requesting to be at public schools, its time to take your kid out of the public schools. "

Exactly. I sold a house and moved to another county to have a decent school for my son. That was back in 1980. He has a PhD in physics now.

“Are you really that scared of someone shooting up a school (other then maybe a SWAT team during ‘Collateral damage’) to allow armed government guards at schools? Ya know, I grew up during the cold war and that is exactly what we were told to defend against!.”

I carry a .45 in my purse all the time and while I have never needed it I’ve also never needed the fire extinguishers in my house or car and I have them, too.

We’re also talking about CHICAGO which now has the highest murder rate in the USA with 250 murders this year. That there will be violence at a Chicago area school THIS YEAR is not a supposition but a statistical probability.

Having the cops prepared for such a thing can actually deter someone from shooting up a school in Chicago and, thus, it is worth doing.
