Some illegals get Ga. driver licenses

ATLANTA — Illegal immigrants who are granted permission to stay in the country under an Obama administration policy announced in June will be eligible for driver’s licenses in Georgia, the state’s attorney general wrote in a letter to the governor.

“While I do not agree with the actions of the President in issuing the directive, it has been implemented by the Department of Homeland Security, USCIS, and state law recognizes the approval of deferred action status as a basis for issuing a temporary driver’s license,” Attorney General Sam Olens, a Republican, wrote in a letter obtained Thursday by The Associated Press...

Olens said illegal immigrants with this special status would not, however, be eligible for a state identification card. He says such cards are considered public benefits which are not available to illegal immigrants.

Given GA law, as described on the state website, Information for Non-US Citizens, I don't see how they have a choice thanks to Obama's scheme.

Let them expire and have to be renewed every 35 days. That way when we toss Obama and start enforcing immigration law again we’ll know we can find them all at the DMV.

Well, I certainly hope that these “temporary” driving licenses have the words ILLEGAL ALIEN indelibly marked onto the licenses. And I hope that the Georgia DMV’s databases and record formats are modified to have this “illegal alien” status as a ready identifier.

The problem is, that once the illegals get licenses, they will then be able to vote.
It is time that Nathan Deal stood up like Jan Brewer in Arizona, but I’m sure not holding my breath!

Jan Brewer was able to stand up because of how AZ law against illegal alien driver's licenses was written.

Nathan Deal doesn't appear to have that flexibility.

Non-citizens could already get driver's licenses in GA but couldn't vote. This shouldn't complicate things for voting since this case would be covered by existing law and procedure.

Let’s hope that the Motor-Voter laws won’t apply to them.
