Akin was not even the clear choice of conservatives. In the primary, John Brunner was endorsed by both Missouri Right to Life and the National Right to Life. Sarah Steelman was endorsed by Sarah Palin. Akin was endorsed by the Democratic Party.
The Democrats carefully nurtured Akin with millions of dollars in campaign money because he was the candidate they most wanted to run against. (Akin thinks all those Democrats voting for him in the primary merely shows that he's got tremendous crossover appeal!)
There's no rehabilitating this guy. It's a waste of money. His comments are going to cost Republicans an easy Senate seat in a moment of crisis for the nation. This one man's stubborn refusal to bow out could cost us control of the U.S. Senate, House seats in Missouri, Senate seats elsewhere and maybe even the White House itself.
Other than that, there's not all that much riding on this.

But this selfish man has decided to play a game of chicken with the Republican Party. He thinks that by stubbornly refusing to step aside, Republicans will be forced to give him money simply because they need that Senate seat.
Republicans should call his bluff. This is no time to be counting on people to check the FEC reports to see that the GOP has cut off his money.

There is talk of a compromise candidate rising if Akin drops out, one who didn’t run in the primary. One name is state Auditor Tom Schwich, a former aide to John Danforth and a nationally recognized expert on narco-terrorism.
Another name is rising, that of Ann Wagner, who is currently running to succeed Akin in Congress. Here’s an article on the topic:
I hold out hope that perhaps Mike Huckabee can persuade Todd Akin to drop out of the race, provided that Huckabee can be persuaded to make the request.
Follow the money, see who is paying him off.
Ouch.
Coulter is not helping conservatism. The media has made this a disaster. They won't give up until they white wash all hot button issues to help Romney.
Akin is not helping conservatism either. In fact, he’s inflicting damage on our cause everyday he stays in the race.
Including Akin.
Oh please, I didn't mean it. Forgive me!! I wanna wanna wanna be a Senator and be set for life.
It is not your cause.
There you go-all emotions.
Hope you get the one that you want.
Go for it!
Steelman was also endorsed by Nat’l Right to Life and MO Right to Life.
He is a creepy looking guy. Is her related to Henry Waxman?
Which would be a slap in the face of those who spent time, money and sweat to run in the primary. If the runner up isn't first to be picked, they deserve to lose, as they will, big time.
Yeah, this is going to help... keep bashing the Pro-life candidate publicly, over and over. Is she getting a kickback from McCaskill campaign?
I just hope it’s not a coward like Akin.
Really pathetic to watch supposed “conservative” pundits fall into the Democrat propaganda machines diversion and distraction trap.
I’d love to slap the faces of the democrats that crossed over and voted for Akin.
Go home, Annie.
Read my comment again. I didn’t say that conservatism is “my cause”. I said it is “our cause”.
I've been suggesting the name of Ann Wagner here for several days now. I think she would be the best choice. (She's running in the district I live in.)
Aaaah, Ann Coulter, the pro-Romney hag who was vilified mercilessly on FR just some months ago is now a “voice of reason” in all of this?
Spare me. She’s displayed her colors and they aren’t conservative. RINO. Which means she plays for the GOP-e team. The same team that is busy voraciously eating one who it considers a mutant within its ranks.
I wonder, what would have happened if the GOP had circled the wagons around Mr. Akin and basically told the media and Dems to shove off?
Helped a wounded warrior vs. leaving him to die alone? Where is the honor in this?
Show me what is conservative about Mutt Romney or Christie Creme, Ann. And ask him for a donut while you’re at it.
That was not a decisive factor. Akin would have won anyway. McCaskill's TV ads had more of an effect. "Too extreme for Missouri"? OK, Claire, we know what you're doing, but we'll vote for him anyway and still beat you. But we weren't counting on Akin self-destructing so badly.
That picture has been photoshopped. He doesn't look that bad.
In five days this Akin non-story will be as pertinent as the “Romney Pulled a Homo Kid's Hair in High School” story.
Id love to slap the faces of the democrats that crossed over and voted for Akin.

What would you like to do to all the Democrats who crossed over and voted for Romney ???
Thanks to the fact that Akin is a fool she will probably win.
Claire was counting on it, and you can't say she was wrong.
Non story until election night and he loses.
I used Photoshop plastic surgery to give him the nose of a real pig...
If he loses, it will be due to the likes of the surrender monkeys at this forum.
He’s not a warrior, he’s a politician.
Maybe not in reality, that bad, but... perception is reality, and in my mind that picture is his true self...
Count your artistic product as in-kind contribution to McCaskill.
Hey you... knock,knock,knock... that idiot Akin is helping even less... I only disliked his persona before I heard him try to sound smart, now, he’s a blooming idiot in my mine... I will write in my own candidate if he does not get out...
“Oh please, I didn’t mean it. Forgive me!! I wanna wanna wanna be a Senator and be set for life.”
That’s it, ego before party, ego before country, ego before beliefs.
Metaphor, but I guess that went right over your head.
Again, where is the honor in this? Conservatives talk of things like courage, principles, faith, honor, conviction, etc. But it’s just talk when it comes from Republicans.
What I do see on display right now is the wholesale vilification of a few here on FR by so called “conservatives” thirsting for blood.
Been seeing too much of it on FR lately to tell the truth.
conservative pundits fall into the Democrat propaganda machines diversion and distraction trap.”
Reality is a bitch isn’t it. Akin leaves the party heals.
“If he loses, it will be due to the likes of the surrender monkeys at this forum.”
Again, Jacquerie, safe position to hurdle insults.
Put your cards on the table, will he beat McCaskill or not? Everybody on here knows the facts. Is he going to beat McCaskill? If there are surrender monkeys out there so be it, that is the fact of the situation and they came to their decision from what Akin said not some MSM/Dem conspiracy.
In other words what we have now is the reality on the ground. So what is it going to be; will he beat her or not?
You all are so busy worrying about what the Dems are going to do you never spend any time thinking about what we are doing to them
Since McCaskill and the Dems have spent so much money to help Akin, then one could argue I am supporting Akin.
“Falling into your foes traps counts as a stupid move. “Conservatives” should be smarter then this”
So tell me how many voters will be classified as conservative in the general election? This will be a general election not a primary, so you are blaming conservatives for abandoning Akin, when in reality he drove away all the moderates and independents that were supporting him. His fault not us.
If he's a "wounded warrior" it's because he shot himself in the foot.
He's clearly an inept politician. He spouted off about a subject that is a notorious political minefield, and followed up his foolish rape comments with a bizarre interview on national radio.
Where's the honor in someone acting stupidly and then refusing to take responsibility for the wreckage they have caused?
Akin is now the poster boy for the Troglodyte Republican who is waging "War on Women". Scott Brown's opponent, Elizabeth Warren, has already launched an attack ad exploiting the Akin mess. Let's hope we don't lose any other seats thanks to Akin's hubris.
"Selfish Swine" sums him up quite well.
Akin at least appeared open to the idea of an exit in September when he appeared on Hannity Tuesday.
Well bless your heart, you go right ahead and let the Democrat propaganda machine tell you what to think. The rest of us have better things to do.
Do you know with 100% certainty that McKatKiller will beat Akin? All of the bickering about Akin dropping out is playing into the hands of the Dems. Akin is a true conservative, of the likes the GOPe hates because they are now the Dims. Soon enough you will see NO differnce in party but only the name.
