Welcome to this week's 2012 Nascar at FR race thread! This Week it's The Irwin Tools Night Race at Bristol! Saturday Night ABC 7 pm ET ![]() Click for Nascar race & news threads at FR Bristol Motor Speedway Week-end Broadcast Schedule ![]() Bristol Motor Speedway web site The land upon which Bristol Motor Speedway is built used to be a dairy farm. Larry Carrier and Carl Moore traveled to Charlotte Motor Speedway in 1960 to watch a race and it was then that they decided to build a speedway in Northeast Tennessee. However, they wanted a smaller model of the Charlotte track, something with a more intimate setting and opted to erect a half-mile facility instead of mirroring the 1.5-mile track. Work began on what was then called Bristol International Speedway in 1960 and it took approximately one year to finish. Officials scratched many ideas for the track on envelopes and brown paper bags. The land on which BMS now sits, as well as construction of the track, cost approximately $600,000. The entire layout for BMS covered 100 acres and provided parking for more than 12,000 cars. The track itself was a perfect half-mile, measuring 60 feet wide on the straightaways, 75 feet wide in the turns and the turns were banked at 22 degrees. ![]() FRFL'ers - Deadline to select your drivers is Aug 24 2:00am PDT The FR Canteen 24 by 7 |
Bristol race thread is up Ping!!
Yay, a race I can watch! (I don’t have cable.)
Boogity
This is a race the NASCAR fans can really enjoy, now that they have fixed the track to cut down on the racing and promote more crashing..
What did France say? Give them more of a WOW factor.
There are a few special places to see a race in this world and Pinball Bristol is one of them.
Keeping fingers crossed that I have a few cars running at the end!
My daughter and her husband are heading down, I’ll have live coverage, LOL.
They’re taking a blind friend who has Bristol on his bucket list.
Thanks for the work & ping Norm.
I’ll run Hornish if you will.
I think TB is napping out in the shed again.
Hold on there the track was widened to get rid of the bump and run which was a Bristol trademark. The racing was boring as hell.BS just put the track back to the way it was before.Back to great racing.
I hope the Roush boys run good. Its time for FORD to win the championship again. Its been forever since last time.
The races weren't high sanctioned, but were competitive, highly entertaining. One race featured about a dozen drag racers running half a race in what looked like hobby stocks, with the owners running the other half. Lots of fun.
But lordy....WHAT a view from that suite. We felt like we could reach out and touch every car everywhere on the track. All glass enclosed, comfortable seating and club amenities, just a superb view. I can't imagine what a ticket up there for a NASCAR race would be.
The night time temps are running below normal.
An hour after dark a light jacket feels good.
From the outside, it appears to be a football stadium, looks nothing like a racetrack.
Photos make it appear a lot more spacious than it really is, the seating areas rise quite rapidly, especially higher up.
The overall effect is a sense of compactness that is truly unique.
I'll watch the race on TV, but then it's off to Indy for me to go to THE race of the year....the US Nationals.
Thanks, I’ll pass that along.
They've been testing fuel cars all day. Now that it's nightfall and quieter outside, they sound like they're coming up my street - I'm 7 miles north of the track.
It’s always cool at Redwood Acres but I degrease...
Ya gots to know the noise level there is fierce./
Heard on local radio call in show that there are more planes out at the TRI than have been seen in a few years. Hopefully, that augurs good attendance.
And How about that “We Back Pat! car on the pole for the Nationwide!
Anyone know if there is any online streaming of the free variety?
Qualifying rain out so the lads will start re: practice 1 speeds. Casey Mears on the pole...isn’t he a “start and park”?
Nationwide is on now but we have an appointment to see ZZ Top at the Amphitheater.
Oh, about the track. Kyle Busch’s comment today was that they screwed it all up when it was ground down.
Good evening....FRIDAY NIGHT RACIN’ and the Bears are on too.
Look at the empty stands, I know it’s early but there can’t be that many under the stands.
Did I miss something on rained out quals? We’re now setting the lineup by practice speeds? What happened to owner points? I guess I didn’t get the memo.
We haven’t had rain since early June but thanks for asking...
Do you have fires nearby?
I’m headed out for coffee with my wife, daughter and grand daughter and then a drive around the bay to the Samoa Drag Strip. A company I used to work for is sponsoring the annual Nostalgia Drags featuring 348 and 409 Chebby engines. First drags were held there in 1952 when I was a mere 19 year old yut. Look from me here when you see me coming around the bend...
Are you coming around to Bend or are you going over the hill??
20% chance of showers at the track today. We’ll be on an hour delay to get the tri-tip done. Bumping and banging? You betcha!
ZZ Top was good. Migrating geese landing in the river w/snow capped mountains in view. We enjoyed the concert & the next and last one on the menu is Huey Lewis & the News on September 11th. I’ll save a seat for you.
Bristol Pre-race show on abc shortly maybe Ping!!
It’s overtime at the LLWS!
Guess it’ll be Tennessee vs. Godzilla, tomorrow...
ol’ G’zilla gonna have his craws full..
I’m 19 miles away by road and I can hear the roar every time. I’m opnly ~15 miles away as the crow flies. You could not pay me to go to one of those races, after working one as a sub int he pits back in my college days.
Tri-tip is being “Traegerized” and we’re ready to go. Mrs. Happydog will sleep through the race as a nearby forest fire has created extremely smoky conditions in Bend and she unfortunately had too many snoot-fulls last night and today and it’s made her sickly.
I’m not running the #22, you got 4 minutes to change...
I will be running:
Kazzellozzzzzski
Biff
Turax
Vickers
Hmmm Bristol, Pirates vs Milwaukee, Steelers vs Buffalo all on tonight.
What to do, what to do?
Howsabout get to work, LOL!
Wow HDx2, we are running exactly the same drivers this week. But, don’t blame me if you have a sub-200 point race!
South Florida ABC affiliate has pre-empted the race with fake hurricane coverage....gotta use all that equipment they bought, I guess....
I know it's been a long time since they had one, but the hype is unbelievable.
Even here in Indiana the weather peeps talk about it like an apocalypse is coming.
this is a smash mouth race tonite
What time does the race start?
You do know that Schrader is racin tonight?
on now...started late into lap 44 of 500
You do know that Schrader WAS racin tonight... ssshhheeesss
THX
Only 400 laps to go!!!
Oh noes....Hornish behind the wall.
Who Dat???
#34 is Ragan, the Glory I’m on F’ar Special!!
