NOW IS THE TIME FOR COURAGE
WND.com ^ | August 22, 2012 | Janet Porter

Want to know why the Republican Party is in such trouble? I believe it comes down to one word: courage.

When Democrats misspeak, we make them vice president. When Republicans misspeak, Republicans are the first in line to throw them under the bus.

When Rep. Todd Akin stood for protecting all innocent human life in a recent interview, he used a word with more than one meaning. He used the word “legitimate” before the word “rape” to mean “real,” “forcible,” a tragic event that “really took place.” .......

But because “legitimate” could also modify the word rape, some in the Republican Party are practically writing Willie Horton ads about it, pretending that the congressman is “pro-rape” and wants to let rapists out on furlough. This “interpretation” of the congressman’s words doesn’t resemble reality, and everyone knows it.

If Republicans love their country, they will quit using fiction to shoot their own and focus on the real enemies of life: Democrats Claire McCaskill and Barack Obama, who stand for legally sucking the brains out of half-born babies in a procedure called partial-birth abortion.

In America, we shouldn’t kill people for the crimes of their father. And in politics, we shouldn’t kill statesmen for a badly worded sound bite.

Thankfully, there are men and women of courage who stand with Rep.Akin, founder of National and International Right to Life, Dr. Jack Willke said:

“Congressman Todd Akin remains a strong and courageous pro-life leader – and awkward wording in one sound-bite doesn’t negate that. Of course, Congressman Akin never used the word ‘legitimate’ to refer to the rapist. … It’s time for Republican leaders to rise to the level of Rep. Todd Akin’s principle and courage and stand with him and the Republican platform that stands for the protection of every human life.”

Can Akin win this election or will he drop out under pressure from his own party? I don’t know. But If he chooses to stay, he has my support.

It was not only the one word “legitimate”. It was the ignorant and offensive “magic uterus” stuff that followed, made worse by his attempt at clarifying and apologizing.

Sorry, the guy is toast.

So we add another moron, this one with cr@p for brains and diarrhea of the mouth, to the ensemble of republicrat "gang that couldn`t shoot straight"?

What`re his next pearls of wisdom? "Isn`t it nice the way the sun revolves around the earth?"

If someone plants a landmine in your yard and you see it, you have every legal right to step on it. After all it’s your yard. We are looking for a few good men. Those who are willing to take the fight to the enemy and not just blow the hell out of themselves and everyone around them because it’s their right.

The mob think and mass cowardice of the republican party does not bode well at all.

I am afraid Sen. Clare will win again.

Rep. Akin should have backed out.

Think retreat, when it should be attack, attack, attack and you have the Republican leadership and the Hannitys. If you check carefully you would probably find he blond one is a very close friend of Bill Maher. I don’t trust either.

I think we have disagreed on other issues, but on this we do agree. If the republicans had any serious quantum of courage, we would already be done with Obamacare. As for rep Aikin, his wording was vulnerable to attack, but his main points are 1) scientifically plausible, and 2) morally sound. All of his detractors, every single one I have read, at least, is engaged in the fallacy of “popular ignorance.” Everybody just knows that X cannot be true. Therefore X is not true. Unsound reasoning, yes, and the heart and soul of “mob” thinking. The villagers are out in force, pitchfork and torch in hand. Will they realize their error in time to rescue our protagonist? Only God knows.

Ah, np, I don’t always think as others do, and I know sometimes I rub people the wrong way.

But it really does seem like villagers with torches and pitchforks are out on this one. From what I can see, the republicans party lacks courage, it lacks knowledge of strategy, it lacks knowledge of its enemy, and it lacks knowledge of its own psychology.

With regard to what Akin said, even though I do not agree with it, there is some support for it medically, though it does not seem to be fact at this point, and it is morally sound, even though I personally differ with him on that, because I do support the rape, incest and life of mother exception.

That being said, I respect the right of this man to believe what the way he does. I respect him for standing up for his beliefs. I respect him for not caving in and running for the hills at the first sign of trouble. We need more republicans like this in governemnt.

I do not know if people will realize the shocking extent of just how masterfully they have been played. I just don’t know. From what I am seeing, generally speaking, conservatives aren’t that smart, and they are easily predicted and pushed.

I must say that I am very troubled by this.

For starters, I AM NOT a republicrat!

But IT IS NOT cowardice to want to jettison an imbecile who first off, is SO STOPID as to believe that drivel about a woman`s body being able to select WHEN she becomes pregnant, what is she a Sebacian Peace Keeper from Farscape?

And secondly, given that he`s a career politician, is he THAT absolutely clueless as to have missed the FACT the leftists WOULD have jumped on a piece of blood dripping RED MEAT the likes of this? IF so, what other brain farts can this @ssh*le be expected to unleash?

OH, let me guess, the N-words next? And I get people trashing me for NOT wanting to claim that party of moronic inclusiveness!

So you REALLY think a woman's body can decide IF it conceives? That's not what I was taught, but I guess ALL the A&P texts are wrong. PLEASE do us the favor of directing us to your research data.

You have really allowed yourself to be whipped into an incredibly unproductive frenzy.

What he believes about a woman’s body does not matter at all.

He can’t be jettisoned. He can’t quit. Support him or lose
Missoura to the enemy.

That is reality. Nothing else matters.

That was NOT your statement, you implied his detractors were were in a “frenzy” over what was really the truth. But as far as I`m concerned, YOUR party has enough idiots willing to shoot themselves in the foot.

And I’m not a republican, I am a conservative patriot.

Republicans, generally speaking, do not impress me.

First, neither I nor Aikin framed this in absolute, binary terms. It is something that can happen. It can also NOT happen. It depends. But nuances such as a range of probabilities with uncertain outcomes don’t make good sound bites, so that gets lost in the storm.

Second, keep in mind this is not about fertilization, but maintaining the pregnancy versus losing it to a natural abortion. Redirection to fertilization is part of the “popular ignorance” problem that is occurring, and in some cases I fear it is intentional misdirection. We must at least be fair to Aikin by asking the right question, not rushing to judgment based on strawman arguments. It’s about miscarriage, not fertility.

As for research supporting (stress-induced) cortisol-based interference with human pregnancy, some German scientists are indeed studying the matter:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18616898

One of the above scientists has also performed research with mice that tends to corroborate the premise that miscarriage can be triggered by the chemistry of stress:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-325674/Stress-really-cause-miscarriages.html

I have heard there is also a study in the Journal of Endocrinology by Tufts University, June 2003, but I have yet to track down a good link for that.

As Drudge would say, “Developing ...”
