A former Marine who was forced into a psychiatric ward for anti-government Facebook postings has been freed from the hospital by a Virginia circuit court ruling handed down Thursday.

Judge Allan Sharrett dismissed the case against Brandon Raub, 26, who had been detained by government officials in Richmond, Va., and transferred to a VA hospital in Salem, Va. The judge called the petition to continue Raub's forced detention “so devoid of any factual allegations that it could not be reasonably expected to give rise to a case or controversy.”

Who brought charges against him to have him arrested in the first place. That person is a true Nazi.

“The mom and son feel aggrieved, being taken without charge and detained, and a civil action is being discussed,” Mr. Whitehead said. “And I want to make sure this doesn’t happen again. If you can handcuff someone and detain them without charge, that’s not freedom. The law must be modified so this doesn’t happen again.”

This was a raw abuse of power. The action needs to be taken against all who thought what they were doing was hunky-dory. I'm glad they came across a judge who interpreted the law instead of ignoring it.

This is the scariest single action I've seen from the government in my life.

The almighty "they" have gone blatantly unConstitutional and shown us that this absolutely could happen to anyone who ever says something that those with power don't like.

This is full circle and we are back to the beginning: fighting human nature empowered with absolute power and moderated by an absence of integrity.

It was indeed a raw abuse of power, yet in a stunning display of naivete there were Freepers aggressively defending said abuse of power.

No abuse of power here...

GW Bush and his republican allies made sure of that with the passing of the so called “patriot act”....

This monstrous erosion of civil rights was met with much applause by a large group of people on this site...

and now fubo and his ilks are taking advantage of it...

2 rules to remember...

never trust a democrat...

never trust a republican...

That's very, very scary!

Plainclothed federal goons with dark shades could come knocking on many a Conservative door while totally ignoring the call for murdering whites from the New Black Panther party.

(Have you the NBP audio on Glenn Beck's site?)

The scariest single action I’ve seen was the federal government murdering dozens of men, women, and children in in a military assault on the Branch Davidians in Waco,Texas in the 1990s!!!!!

Said Davidians were no threat to America, unlike islam!!!!!!

I am sure there are many who still support the Patriot Act. I don’t, and never did.

“The biggest thing in his profile is he’s a 9-11 truther,” Mr. Whitehead said. “He’s a Ron Paul libertarian. But so what? Thomas Paine would have been put into an institution" by that standard.

I don't care if the guy believes in the Easter Bunny. What happened to him sounds like something out of Gulag Archipelago.

Obama is a thug.

This was not done under the Patriot Act. This was done under VA state law enacted after the Virginia Tech shootings.

The ‘patriot’ act was conceived by two left wing ‘research’ institutes, the CSIS and the Brookings Institute.

They set it up in such a way as to be paid by the government with taxpayer money to institute it and run the programs they created.

It is a political scam of corporatist fascist nature, which is one of the problems Raub pointed out on his website.
