I would rather Santorum than the liberal we got stuck with. I am sure I will make folks angry, but the “liberals” on here hate me already; so....

You are probably fine with Freedom of Worship as opposed to Freedom of Religion.

I never did understand how conservatives could flock to a big government, regulation lovin’, stab the conservatives in the back kind of guy....

not trying to be sarcastic, this is a legitimate question...

what about him drove you to back him?

Once Perry and Cain dropped out, I pretty much stayed neutral. But never wanted Santorum. His mouth would have written checks we couldn’t have cashed - leaving us politically bankrupt. Like Akin.

I am more than comfortable in my faith. I don’t need a preacher for prez.

So many of the Santorum folks get in line and start supporting Romney for the good of the Country and you want to bring up your hatred of Santorum to piss them off to what end? Do you hate Ryan as well? Is he of the same pro-life, Catholic (gasp!) ilk you seem to detest?

Please don't think out loud, you are not good at it.

This whole election scenario is really starting to look like the whole Supreme Court healthcare too. I remember how confident everyone was that it was going to be overturned. It was just a foregone conclusion: Obamacare struck down by Supreme Court. And then the complete opposite happened and all the conservative intelligentsia were just shocked. Totally caught by surprise. Each one to a man Rush, Levin Hannity, Beck et al.
I’m starting to get the feeling that it’s going to turn out the same way in November. I’m hearing a lot of bragging about how a Romney win is a forgone conclusion. This poll that’s been right for 30 years says so. Nothing to worry about... until you see the election results on the night of November 6

If you think about it its kind of ironic.

We conservatives are purists but Mitt Romney’s daddy stomped of the convention stage like a little girl in 64 and refused to endorse or support Goldwater. Moderates have been doing the same ever since.

Well, I think Santorum is good on principles, but he is just not a very good politician, similar to Akin. So, yes, he probably would have had some stumbles. More importantly, he just doesn’t have the right personality to win a Presidential race. He hardly ever seems fired up himself, so it is hard for anyone else to get fired up about him.

You don’t think there is anything SERIOUSLY wrong in saying that Boy Scouts should take homosexual scout masters?!

This thinking would doom us to having AP/NY Times/CNN etc. determine our candidates forever.

If Santorum makes you nervous, then maybe a Pawlenty-type would be more to your liking. He at least could count as a pro-forma conservative.

There were entire BOOKS written about Reagan’s (and W’s) supposed gaffes.

Heck, during the primaries, Reagan almost got derailed for telling an ethnic joke (Poles/Italians).

It is August, most of the country is not tuned in, Obama starts with 40% ... no matter WHAT he does. Republican X starts with 40% NO MATTER WHAT HE DOES.

And here’s something that most people don’t realize. Independents are not on average “moderates”. They are all over the place but they don’t like BS or pandering; they like what works without having to study too much about it. Perot persuaded many of them to support him in 1992. Reagan appealed to a large number in 1980.

Dole and McCain fit the mold of the kind of candidate that your are describing. Either might edge out an Obama today. A Santorum could beat him buy more, and actually do something conservative for a change, too.

Turn off TV news, avoid AP newspapers and the NY Times, and maybe lighten up on FR and talk radio for a while. Time to hit the reset button against all of this noise.

Hell yeah we dodged a bullet. Both Santorum and Akin are like two goofy Labrador puppies chasing after any treat the MSM throws out to them.
Romney /Ryan have their eye on the prize...the presidency, the senate and then the supremes. Run the table. To do this requires a disciplined message on Obama’s failures and how to turn around the economy. To get dragged into debates on porn and “legitimate rape” would have been an epic failure.

When Santorum speaks on social issues, he is sometimes politically incorrect but never uninformed, as Akin is. Huge flaps when Santorum “compared” homosexuality with bestiality. He was only quoting the traditional definition of sodomy that until recently appeared in Black’s Law Dictionary, and making the point that if we cavalierly change the meaning of words, then anything is permitted. Liberals are the disciples of Marcuse, whose aim was the destruction of the “bourgeoisie” family. Akin comes from a faith tradition which puts less stock in precision.

I feared that if he got the nomination he would have a "Macaca/Legitimate rape" moment.

Are you equally fearful that Romney will have such a moment? How about the person(s) you voted for in Congressional primaries?

If not, I'm surprised. Anyone can have such a moment. We're human, and we say things that don't convey what we truly meant to communicate. Add to that the MSM who is liable to jump on the smallest thing (or make things up if they can't find anything), and anyone can fall into what Akin has been experiencing.

Whew!

When I glanced at the title of the thread I thought someone was proposing that we should somehow create a Santorum/Akin ticket at the convention.
