The second day of the Republican convention will feature a video tribute to Ron Paul, the Romney campaign announced Friday.
The film is one of many accommodations for the former Republican presidential hopeful and his network of supporters at the convention. Paul's son, freshman Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), will be speaking on Monday, and the Texas lawmaker himself is planning a day-long rally with supporters on the Sunday proceeding the convention.
"While they certainly disagree on many issues, they have always had, if you watch the debates, a lot of mutual respect between them. Congressman Paul's people came to us and said they'd like to do a small tribute to him, and we said absolutely," said Romney adviser Russ Schriefer during a conference call with reporters.
Paul spokesman Jesse Benton told The Washington Post earlier this week that the campaign has identified 373 delegates and alternates that will be at the convention in support of Paul a sizable chunk of the 2,286 delegates in attendance. The Republican National Committee and Romney campaign have been working with Paul's supporters in recent weeks to put to bed anxieties that his supporters could attempt to disrupt the carefully scripted proceedings.
"We feel that we're in a good place," said Schriefer. "We know that not everybody is going to agree with us all of the time, but that we'll unite together."
Schriefer also denied that the roll-call vote that will officially nominate Romney had been moved to Monday afternoon out of concerns that Paul supporters could disrupt the tally. The Romney aide said that the schedule change was the byproduct of what could be a difficult transportation situation for delegates in Tampa, where hotels are scattered throughout a large region instead of concentrated in a single area.

You should always be nice to the person at work who you think might go postal some day. You don’t want to be on the list, or at least not at the top.
If Mittens wants to win it, this is smart. The Paul haters aren’t going to vote for Zero over this, and we need Paul’s bill to audit the Fed to remain out in plain sight.
Will they read from his racist nutty newsletters? Will they have some Truther loons giving testimonials? Will Mahmoud Ahmadinejad be there to thank him for the support?
At least Romney can thank him for helping for helping to undermine the conservatives in the primaries.
Better than Jimmy Carter.
Did Ron Paul die? How did I miss that?
A tribute to Ron Paul is a tribute to cutting spending. I’m all for it. Hopefully Romney will at least do that when he becomes president. If he significantly cuts the size of government, it will be the best “conservative” thing he could do.
Was this his payoff to Ron Paul to have a truce during the primary advertising season?
Obama is the enemy, never forget it. As kooky as some of Ron Paul’s statements have been in the past, this is no time to fractionalize and fight. Maybe important alliances can be made. But Zero’s gotta go. Period.
Then the limited time of the convention needs to be focused on defeating Obama, not giving a tribute to a nutcase.
When’s the Tea Party tribute scheduled?
Oh ...
Good move. I want Ron Paul to have a place at the table. Except when foreign affairs and the battle to save humanity from radical Muslims are discussed.
Great question!
It was so conspicuos that RP never went after Romney, but he went hard after everyone else.
Ron Paul??
How about a Sarah Palin Tribute Day? That’d drive the left nuts instead of making them smirk.
bump!
Ron Paul for head of the fed in the Romney administration?
RE: Ron Paul for head of the fed in the Romney administration?
I was thinking of that myself.
FED Chairman: Ron Paul
Treasury Sec: Steve Forbes
Defense Sec: Col. Allen West
Sec. of State: John Bolton
Atty. General : Ken Cuccinelli
Homeland Security : Rudy Giuliani
Good, he deserves it. Ron Paul serves 2 important functions:
1. He helps the GOP focus on fiscal responsibility. Because God knows this went out of the window with the Bush administration. He was for fiscal responsibility before it became cool and nobody rational can accuse him of socialist inclination.
2. He is a magnet for racists, anti-semites, anarchists, conspiracy loons, the-rest-of-the-world-does-not-exist isolationists, and violent anti-government nuts. Helps clear the filth out of the GOP.
....and Methodists.
...and young people.
