Second day of Republican convention to feature Ron Paul tribute

The second day of the Republican convention will feature a video tribute to Ron Paul, the Romney campaign announced Friday.

The film is one of many accommodations for the former Republican presidential hopeful and his network of supporters at the convention. Paul's son, freshman Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), will be speaking on Monday, and the Texas lawmaker himself is planning a day-long rally with supporters on the Sunday proceeding the convention.

"While they certainly disagree on many issues, they have always had, if you watch the debates, a lot of mutual respect between them. Congressman Paul's people came to us and said they'd like to do a small tribute to him, and we said absolutely," said Romney adviser Russ Schriefer during a conference call with reporters.

Paul spokesman Jesse Benton told The Washington Post earlier this week that the campaign has identified 373 delegates and alternates that will be at the convention in support of Paul — a sizable chunk of the 2,286 delegates in attendance. The Republican National Committee and Romney campaign have been working with Paul's supporters in recent weeks to put to bed anxieties that his supporters could attempt to disrupt the carefully scripted proceedings.

"We feel that we're in a good place," said Schriefer. "We know that not everybody is going to agree with us all of the time, but that we'll unite together."

Schriefer also denied that the roll-call vote that will officially nominate Romney had been moved to Monday afternoon out of concerns that Paul supporters could disrupt the tally. The Romney aide said that the schedule change was the byproduct of what could be a difficult transportation situation for delegates in Tampa, where hotels are scattered throughout a large region instead of concentrated in a single area.

I do hope the tribute details of all his accomplishments during his 11 terms in the U.S. House of Representatives.

That should take all of 15 seconds.

Did Ron Paul die or something? If not, I don’t see a logical reason for this.

I think Homeland Security still ought to fall under attorney general duties and make Rudy that - he’s got attorneyship background including being in the fed Gov under Ronald Reagan. We need to cut OUT as many federal depts thus cutting budgetary needs and corrupt fed employees. Top down a 25% fed cut in ALL depts, including the Pentagon...way too many lifers over there who have gotten lazy and liberal...I have a feeling Romney will have the cahoneys to do that with his Bain experience driving him.

“Since its creation in 1913, the Federal Reserve (the FED) has presided over a 98% decline in the dollar’s purchasing power” ~ Ron Paul

“1913 wasn’t a very good year. 1913 gave us the income tax, the 16th amendment and the IRS” ~ Ron Paul

That’s BS. Let the guy speak. Also, Gingrich, Santorum, Perry...anybody who has at least one delegate.

Doesn’t matter, really,though. It’ll be raining.

A tribute to Ron Paul is a tribute to cutting spending.

When has Cut and Run ever cut spending? The ONLY thing he has EVER done is stuff as many bills with as many earmarks as possible.

Nor me. The RNC has been awfully nice to Ron Paul since about April. Very accommodating, very polite.

Tea Party and socons and other conservatives? Get lost! See you at the polls -- be sure to vote for us, and stay the hell away from us with your cooties in the meantime!

Whereas a poll of Ron Paul supporters showed that a majority of them would not support the GOP nominee, if Paul were not that nominee. They split four ways, with "stay home" or "vote for Obama" being the leading claims on their voting fealty in November. That's as of about four months ago. A large plurality would actually vote Democratic.

Maybe important alliances can be made.

Funny you should mention that, because ZERO "alliances" have been offered Texas or Sarah Palin.

Want to re-think your appreciation of RiNO political strategery?
