Networks to Keep TV Broadcasts Slim, But Plan Gavel-to-Gavel Web Streams ---

Political conventions, long the ultimate made-for-TV presentation, this year are coming of age as digital-media events—highlighting the decline of network television coverage of the gatherings. ---

When Republicans convene next week in Tampa, Fla., and Democrats the week after in Charlotte, N.C., major broadcast networks will use the Internet to provide the kind of extensive coverage they long ago abandoned on their airwaves. ---

Re: Online media...live streaming...video...new media

I wanted to post some links to online media for the convention, debates, and election night. Please post your favorite links here for future reference. This is especially helpful to those of us with no TV to keep up with current events.

Of course Free Republic is the best source of links to news and current events, so it was easy for me to cancel cable TV years ago and I don't miss it. Then with broadband the world of online video and live streaming opened up to me.

YouTube launches 2012 elections hub - Fox News - Leslie Meredith - August 23, 2012

Google launched its YouTube Elections Hub on Tuesday, which promises to be a one-stop spot for key political moments.

Of course, it will include the serious newsy streams such as live speeches from the floor of the upcoming Republican (Aug. 27-30) and Democratic (Sept. 4-6) National Conventions, live streams of the official Presidential and Vice Presidential debates, as well as Google+Hangouts featuring Washington insiders.

But, if the networks are showing something like American Idol, those who need to see the conventions won’t see them. Even if there ends up being more overall coverage for those who want it, we will end up with fewer people seeing any of it.

I’m guessing that when folks go online after watching their favorite TV shows, they’ll be exposed to political messages. . . at news sites, video clips, social media etc. I notice there’s a lot of political ads on YouTube now.

“Live convention coverage begins August 27”. Here’s a link to the new 2012 Election hub at YouTube that I mentioned above...

This introductory video claims they’ll have “All perspectives. All in one place”. (I would expect it to be weighted toward the left though, as it is a Google site).
