Posted on 08/25/2012 2:05:07 PM PDT by RoosterRedux
But the shocker was Rocky Mountain Pictures political documentary 2016 Obamas America which expanded into theaters across America this weekend after a very limited release and wound up in 4th place. Thats stunning because its playing in 2/3 fewer theaters across North American than the other wide release actioners. (See below for more details). Due to its hot pre-sales, the pic is proving frontloaded, and its ranking will fall steeply by end of Sunday. But the doc made its point: its new cume after this weekend should make it the #1 conservative documentary (besting Expelled: No Intelligence Alloweds $7.7M).
The pic is based on conservative author and commentator Dinesh DSouzas New York Times bestselling 2010 book The Roots Of Obamas Rage and co-directed by DSouza and John Sullivan and produced by Academy Award winner Gerald R. Molen (co-producer of Schindlers List). Its success comes because of savvy marketing on the eve of the Republican National Convention August 27-30. Exhibitors are reporting busloads arriving at theaters around the country in pre-organized trips. It also employed much of the same marketing techniques used to garner attention and support for faith-based films, understandable since the audience is overlapping. Its campaign included advertising nationally over the past two weeks on talk radio and cable news channels including Fox News Channel, A&E, History and MSNBC. Yes, I also didnt believe it when I first saw the film taking off in pre-sales on Tuesday, an exhibition insider tells me. Because theres not a lot of new product thats taking off.

It’s playing at a few theaters here in Boise. I see a nice matinee with an icy coke and popcorn in my future tomorrow morning.
I hope it gets released on DVD before the election...or even better yet, youtube.
This has got to be a grassroots movement. I haven’t seen any advertisements or promotions for this movie.
Just getting back from the movie here in Lafayette, LA. The theater was packed.
The pie chart map on the right?
Keep clicking on it in the area of the USA where you are —it will tell you where the movie is playing near you.
Beck, Rush, Levin and Hannity have all been promoting it.
Thanks for the link!!
Was it good?
Would you recommend it?
Just got back from a less than packed theater in Washington, Pa ... but the ones there were middle-aged and all quietly conversant after the movie
You could feel the seriousness in the chit chat.
I just saw it for the second time in 24 hours. Both times the theatre was sold out with mostly over 70 ish year olds in conservative West Texas. Bothe times the crow applauded and a few yelled Vote Romney. I think everyone so go see it and take 5 friends. It is a must see!!!
The film got an ovation at the end. I'm kind of a political junkie, read D'Souza's book when it first came out, and heard his interviews with all the talk show heavies when at that time. In that regard, there wasn't a whole lot of new info out there, but it might be new for a lot of folks who don't start paying attention 'til elections draw close.
From a strictly technical standpoint, it was an exceptionally well made film, and the info was presented in as non-adverserial a manner as possible; a simple laying out of the facts. It ought to resonate with a lot of fence-sitters or people who haven't really been paying attention.
If nothing else, I'm glad I got to contribute to the ticket sale numbers, which ought to stir up some attention.
Fox cable has been showing ads for this movie for at least two weeks now . That’s the only place I’ve seen it mentioned with exception to here on FR . I know Beck has been plugging it on his site .
Sorry for typo’s. Typed on my iPhone and eye sight is getting worse!
Thanks! Want to go see it!
We just checked and it’s playing here in Davenport now.
We don’t normally go to the movies but will probably take this one in.
>> the ones there were middle-aged and all quietly conversant after the movie
a.k.a. “likely voters”
I saw it yesterday. For awhile I was wondering why so much about BO’s father but he did a fabulous job of tying it all in with BO’s actions. I would recommend to anyone. Too bad members of the press won’t bother to see it.
The film settles the question of who B-HO’s father is. The half-brother in Africa looks just like B-HO. They have to have the same father.
It’s playing at thousands of theaters, so I don’t suspect that the prediction that it will fall off quickly can be true.
>> “The film settles the question of who B-HOs father is” <<
That was never seriously in question.
In the movie D'Souza interviews Barack Obama's half brother George. Recently George called D'Souza asking him for money to pay the hospital bill because his child was sick. Obama IS NOT his brothers keeper.
Haven’t heard anything about this either.
Lil and I just came back from seeing it. Excellent documentary!
I hope Dinesh DSouza personally makes $50 million or more off this thing.
It is a well choreographed and documented ... documentary ... without any conspiracy or other childish flavor.
Kind of disappointed nobody mentions younger voters being there....we need to convert them also. If all we have is seniors, to be blunt, they won’t be here forever and each future generation will be more liberal.
I’m hoping for the DVD soon. I have to drive 100 miles in any direction to see the movie.
I live in Helena, Mt which is run by demorats so it is not surprising that the movie will not be show here. Damn demorats OIF vet
Cinergy cinemas isn’t showing it in my hometown in North Central Texas. I had to drive 35 miles, but it was well worth it. I plan to see it again and take friends. Hope it is on DVD before the election. Everyone in America needs to know the facts about Obama.
hubby & I going tomorrow with the youngest one for an end of the summer treat before classes resume.
Then going for all-you-can-eat sushi.
Should be a good day!!
I’m afraid he’s preaching to the choir. Those who worship him will always worship him. They KNOW all the crap about him is true but simply don’t care.
You make a good point. I thought the same thing when I saw the movie yesterday. I wasn’t planning on seeing this last night. I was going to wait untill Labor Day weekend when my family would be around, but my air conditioning broke down, so I went to the 9:20 pm showing. Decent crowd for a political documentary after 9;00 pm on a Friday night, but it was disconcerting that I was probably the only thirty-something in the audience.
When I heard the first few moments of the movie's radio ad aired on a local radio all news station, it sounded like a typical pro-Obama ad.
I had my finger on the button to change the station when I suddenly realized that the movie wasn't going to be a Michael Moore type "Go Through Another Four Years of Obama" movie.
And they will be swayed (if they haven't already).
IMHO, this race is Romney-Ryan's to lose.
A groundswell of grass roots support, first with the 2010 elections, then the turnout in support of CFA and now this film. The counter-revolution against progressivism is taking hold.
Saw it with a friend last night. There were about 20 empty seats left in the theater. Place was crowded.
I'm taking a subway tomorrow. I hope I don't get sold out of the half-price matinee.
Nanny Bloomberg will be at your door ASAP!
I felt the same way, but there was I would say about a 35 yr. old woman next to me and she pointed out that it is the Seniors who went through the depression and fought for our Freedom and they are the ones who get out and vote.
I felt the same way. I have known about 80% of the stuff that is in the film since about 2008. The hammering on Obama’s influences and matching them with exactly what he has done and intends on doing is the proof. Period. The anti-colonialism and the gutting of our nuclear arsenal and driving up our debt to the point of collapse is all about making us even with the rest of the world.
Obama is NOT a friend of the U.S.A. and neither is anyone who is associated with them.
There was talk of Frank Davis being his father. And that would have given B-HO 2 U.S. citizen parents. And that, in itself, would be a serious consideration.
Dinesh D'Souza: Doing what CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, NYT, LAT, et. al. won't do.
But there was not even a faint resemblence between O and Davis.
Fahrenheit 9/11 was released in 2004. Bush won re-election. I wouldn’t set much store in the electoral impact of this film. It’s preaching to the converted. At best, it will energize the conservative base - which does need energizing, given that Romney is the GOP candidate.
