Republicans have postponed their national convention in Tampa at least a day because of concerns about Tropical Storm Isaac.

The event will kick off Monday morning but the convention will immediately recess until Tuesday afternoon, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said in a statement.

“Due to the severe weather reports for the Tampa Bay area, the Republican National Convention will convene on Monday August 27th and immediately recess until Tuesday afternoon, August 28th. After consulting with Governor Scott, NOAA and local emergency management officials, we are optimistic that we will begin an exciting, robust convention that will nominate the Romney-Ryan ticket,” Priebus said.

Now that’s just crazy talk. I’ve been through hurricanes, and I”ve been through tornados, they’re both nasty!

With the Tampa Convention Center at 6 feet above sea (Gulf) level, at the head of a funnel-shaped harbor, the key issue is storm surge... even if the hurricane itself is passing west of the town.

The hotels stay full for two extra days and the girls working the streets will appreciate the two extra nights work.

Does this mean Ann Romney gets to speak prime time Tuesday?

Just wondering when the PhonyCons start blaming the storm on Todd Akin

The “out” party (relative to the White House) chooses the week and they go first. The “out” party often chooses the end of August because it gives them more time to get their act together after a typical bruising primary struggle. It also forces the incumbent party the hassle of having to wait until after Labor Day, when people are busier with their own lives, football season and school have begun, etc.

Cities compete for the privilege of hosting. I don’t remember who competed w Tampa. I know the Dems had to choose between Cleveland and Charlotte and they made a HORRIBLE decision, as it turned out.

Preibus picked the date ~ what a doufous. Just what did this amateur imagine hurricane season is about? Did he think it was just an overhyped TV show or something?

Hurricane season lasts from July 1 until November 30. Florida's last hurricane was 2005.

The GOP considered Phoenix and Salt Lake City as well as winner Tampa.

Dems considered Cleveland, St Louis and Minneapolis in addition to the "winner" Charlotte.

The current Tampa forecast for Monday is for heavy rain and 31 mph winds, which doesn’t seem too bad relatively speaking.

For a convention? Relatively speaking...Bewahahahaha

Ohio?

Cleveland sucks, Columbus is boring as all hell, and Cincinnati is dangerous.

And Dayton and Youngstown are dead and almost ghost-towns.

Tampa is likely to not have major effects from this storm as models trend west toward Mobile.

Yeah, well, Katrina was taking the exact same route, according to predictions, four days before she did a hard turn and made landfall well West.

Pubbie Elitist gasbags condescending to the unwashed masses on prime time television with expensive decorations and lots of balloons will not defeat Barry. When it comes to flatulence, the less the better.

Teams Mittens best speech would be, I accept the nomination and thanks, enough said. Anything else that he might say only reveals how empty a vessel that he really is.

LOL,What? How in the world can pushing back the start date of the Convention by 1 day have any affect on how much or if any bump will occur for Romney?

There wasn’t even going to be any Network coverage of the 1st day anyway and the only result of this is to shorten Convention to 3 days instead of 4. The Dem Convention is 3 days anyway so what is the issue here?

So Preibus should have known 6 months ago there would be a storm on 8/27? It’s Hurricane season from June thru Oct in Fla so what date should he have chosen?

Great to have 20/20 hindsight, eh?

There is nothing remotely exciting about the GOP ticket.

"I think they are planning against the possibility that the hurricane is hitting something on Monday — it would dominate the news, and the media would love to show people suffering from a hurricane while the GOP is “partying” at their convention."

Excellent observation.

it's really great to go through life trusting historic and statistically reasonable data ~ particularly when the issue is hurricanes.

So, what kind of hillbilly is this ol'boy that he pshaws hurricane season on the Florida coast?

So, 7 years later the probabilities don't catch up? BTW, since that time we've had numerous Nor'Easters up the coast here ~ and they start with storms further Souf'. Tropical Storm Fay springs to mind BTW ~ and that was in 2008. Thing came ashore FOUR TIMES as it worked its way up Florida. Just in 2011 there were 20 tropical storms and if you look at the map, they were near misses ~ driven off by an El Nino ~ which is no longer there to drive off the storms into the Atlantic.

Awful lot of them look like they scooted right by Florida ~ in other years they scoot right into Florida ~ I posted that NWS historic track record of all the storms earlier ~ and anyone could have looked at that.
