The victims of another bloody weekend in the city were between 15 and 44 years old
The city saw another bloody weekend as seven people — including a teenager — were killed and 24 others were wounded in separate shootings since Friday evening.
Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy on Saturday defended the department’s anti-violence strategy, which he believes is taking root.
"We're not winning, we're not losing. We’re basically treading water," McCarthy said. He said that in the month of August, "we had some trouble because some of these retaliatory shootings are happening quicker than we can stop them."
The most recent fatal shooting happened early Sunday in the South Side Calumet Heights neighborhood.
Rashad Pratt, 28, was found at 2:58 a.m. with multiple gunshot wounds inside a vehicle near the intersection of East 91st Street and South East End Avenue, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
Pratt, of the 9000 block of South Ridgeland Avenue, was dead at the scene, authorities said. No one is in custody in connection with the slaying as of early Sunday.
About 1:20 p.m., Christopher Spraggins, 20, and Aaron Gaithan, 18, were fatally shot in the 7900 block of South St. Lawrence Avenue, authorities said.

Chicago is on track to reach 504 murders, or about 42 murders per month if the trend continues through 2012. By June of this year, the New York Times reported last month, the city’s number of murders had jumped 39 percent over what they were last year at the same time...............This is a war zone.
So many black people are dying out of proportion to whites in Chicago and in other cities around the country.
Maybe Obama should write an Executive order to make it mandatory to shoot enough white people to even things out.
If it works for school discipline it should work for Chicago killings.

Actually, probably the safest place in Chicago from shooting is a theater or at Chick-a-fil.... I haven’t heard of any in-theater or Chick-a-fil shootings lately, although I’ve heard of many killed sitting on their porches, in their hovels, pimping on the corner, buying dope in the alley, etc., but not in theaters or at Chick-a-fil.
1968, My 1st year back from ‘Nam there were 7 murders, 7 separate incidents, on MY BLOCK. All involved were white...mostly a teen street gang trying to convince the adults to coff up money so the street gang could keep the Latinos out. Chicago had many years with over 900 per year.
One issue is how you count murders. In ‘68 Roger went into the candy store on my block and pistol whipped the elderly owner who refused to help pay to protect the area from the Latinos. Roger left and the store owner died of a heart attack 30 minutes later. I call it murder. The political machine called it heart attack.
when I lived in Chicago, it always impressed me that you had the surreal good life for the wealthy and the tourists down in the Loop and in the area around the Magnificent Mile. City schools were uniformly atrocious, and if you lived on the South Side or the West Side, you had a broken down city with lesser city services. I see that nothing has changed - only that the people who create mayhem and make life miserable for those who have to live on the South or West Sides are starting to create mayhem downtown and make life miserable for the wealthy and the tourists. Mayor Rahm had better put a stop to this or he will have a stop to tourism, conventions and businesses that have no particular requirement to be located downtown.
This is Obama’s vision for America.
