Fmr. Gov. Charlie Crist Endorses Obama
Mediaite ^ | August 26th, 2012 | Meenal Vamburkar

Posted on 08/26/2012 6:43:57 PM PDT by Mozilla

Former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist endorsed President Barack Obama in an op-ed in The Tampa Bay Times on Sunday. Touting the president for serving as the “nation’s calm,” Crist, now a registered independent, decried the GOP’s shift to the “extreme right.”

POLITICO noted that while the move isn’t a shock, the interesting aspect is related to “ongoing rumors about Crist running for governor again, only as a Democrat.” While he doesn’t make any mention of a run in the op-ed, ” if Obama wins Florida, this would be a handy thing for Crist, whose original consulting team is with Romney, to point to having done – and supporting the Democratic president is sort of a half-measure toward announcing as one himself.”

Aren’t there - like - dozens of Democrats who switched to the GOP back in 2009 and 2010? I mean at the state level.

Good. It’s really important that we expose and eliminate all ‘plants’ from the party. The Republican party is much more to the left now than it has ever been, yet the ideologues on the left call the party ‘extreme’. What this really shows is how incredibly extreme the left has become. JFK would fit much more into the Republican party of today than into the extreme party that the democrats have become.

Maybe Crist wishes to take Biden’s place on the DemocRAT ticket? I wouldn’t put it past Obama to try something like that.

It’s OK, if he ran for POTUS as the GOP nominee in 2016, he would still get votes from people talking about how he’s better than a Democrat.

I write news for radio, and by sheer coincidence, I was reading some background on Crist just last week. It was for a story about Todd Akin on how the NRSC had backed other candidates instead of the conservative. The quote I found from a few years back was from John Cornyn, explaining why Crist was the best GOP choice for Senate and how Rubio would have other opportunities in the future. Thank God voters were smarter than that and gave Rubio his opportunity right then.

The same story mentioned that conservatives who disagreed with Cornyn said that if Crist were in the race, the Democrats wouldn’t even have to bother to field a candidate. And now, we see just how true that was.

HOW has 0failure been good for Florida over the last 3 1/2 yrs??

i’ve seen unemployment numbers as high as 17%... housing prices through the floor... net worth 1/4 or less of what it was 4 years ago... food prices almost doubled... gas prices doubled...

what more damage could he do without actually burning down the towns?

and yet this turd is something we’re supposed to want to hang onto for ANOTHER four years??

Yes. I think Democrats infiltrated the Republican Party between 1970 and 2000 in order to disrupt the party from being conservative.

The best rebuttal to Crist's endorsement, in my opinion, came today from my state senator, Jack Latvala:

As someone who has known Charlie Crist for about 25 years and served with him in the Florida Senate from 1994-98, I believe his endorsement of President Obama today is vintage Charlie Crist: “think of yourself first.”

There is no other explanation for the fact that the Charlie Crist who I served with, who used to routinely stand on the floor of the Senate and ask if there was a new tax or fee increase hidden in a bill would now endorse the President responsible for the single largest tax increase in our nation’s history. I believe that philosophies can change over a lifetime but someone who has any kind of core philosophy to start with doesn’t change 180 degrees. Today’s statement by Charlie Crist was nothing but the first step on his next campaign. The stage was set and he is trying to walk onto it like the opportunist that he is.

Today I am proud to represent the Senate District that Charlie Crist used to represent. It is because of my high regard for the people I represent that I am wading into this issue. I believe the timing of Charlie Crist’s statement today is particularly insulting to the men and women in the Tampa Bay area that Charlie Crist used to represent, who gave him their time and money in his multiple campaigns.

Once again, in keeping with his motto “think of yourself first,” Charlie has chosen to make this statement today when the eyes of the world are on our area, specifically the old Senate District he used to represent. In that district are thousands of Republicans who are very proud the day has finally come that our area can host the Republican National Convention. One of those people is Al Austin, the Chair of the Host Committee, whose dream and perseverance led to the opportunity that our region has this week.

He is the same Al Austin who steadfastly supported Charlie Crist in each of his campaigns, didn’t turn his back on him when he became an independent, and has in many ways treated Charlie Crist like a son. What Charlie Crist has done today is an affront to Al, Governor Bob Martinez, and others like him who have been friends and supporters of Charlie’s through the years but who worked their hearts out to get this convention to Tampa.

Once again Charlie Crist has proven that, to him, no friend or philosophy is as important as the next political office. On behalf of my constituents in Tampa Bay, I resent his attempt to steal the spotlight from our convention and the many men and women who made this day possible.

Just announced on our local Florida news Crist is speaking at the DEM convention.

Enjoy, Dems. You are welcome to him. I disliked him from the very first time I ever heard him speak. I thought, well, that’s a slimey snakeoil politician if I ever heard one.

He answered a question in debates with a real conservative with some kind of idiotic, “I love to walk on the beaches” story, and never answered the original question.
