Brawley CA (southeast CA) has been having swarms the last day or two. The last one was about an hour ago at 4.9. Brawley has had earthquakes in the past that have been sizeable and done major damage. I live about 100 from there. I know there is no such thing as earthquake season...but still...

The U.S. Geological Survey is reporting that a strong magnitude-7.4 earthquake has struck off the coast of El Salvador and a tsunami warning has been issued.

The earthquake was located 86 miles (138 kilometers) south-southwest of San Miguel, the USGS reported on its web site.

The temblor took place at a depth of 32.9 miles (53 kilometers).

A tsunami warning is in effect for Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Panama and Mexico.

I bet all of the HAARP theorists will be coming out of the woodwork now with a shifting storm right into NOLA, massive earthquake, possible tsunami, earthquake swarms in So.Cal, all taking place the week of the RNC.

Paging Alex Jones

Regarding the current unusual California earthquake swarm :

Dr. Lucy Jones, USGS Seismologist said that there had not been a swarm like this since the 70s and before that the 30s. It will take them a day or two to get a better read on this unusual swarm because the earth is a different soil, different mix which makes it difficult to get an accurate reading.

Earthquake Ping List.

If you wish to be removed from the Earthquake Ping List or added to it, please FReepmail me.

. . . "What we're seeing is a classic Brawley seismic swarm,'' USGS seismologist Lucy Jones told City News Service. "We haven't seen one of these since the 1970s, and there was another one back in the 1930s.''

< Snip >

Jones said USGS seismographs and analysis computers were overwhelmed by the rash of rattling that began at sunrise, and reached a crescendo with a magnitude 5.3 quake just after 12:30 p.m. It was followed by a 4.9 shaker within two minutes.

"Our system is choking on so many earthquakes,'' Jones said. "This area of California is deep soils, and we do not get as precise data as we do over the rest of the state, and that makes our data a little less precise.''

Fairly deep and a ways offshore. Baring a massive tsunami, the damage hopefully is limited.

Yeah, I know what you mean! :)

From CBS:

(CBS News) A 7.4 magnitude earthquake hit 78 miles off the coast of El Salvador early Monday, the U.S. Geological Survey says.

No tsunami warnings were issued, and the temblor's epicenter was deep beneath the ocean's surface, the USGS says.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injurires.

There was a report of someone feeling the quake in San Salvador, the USGS adds.

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-202_162-57500638/major-earthquake-off-el-salvador/

I recommend everyone stay alert up for at least the next 3 - 4 days. Be glad you're a prepper for those that are!

I'm actually East of you in Louisiana then. Like you, earth science is a big interest of mine.

With hurricanes I've actually had lots of experience. :) Earthquakes, not so much unless you count a 7.9 earthquake in AK, years back.

I know from my own investigation that the earth is experiencing a recent increase in both large earthquakes (M5+) and volcanic activity.

“I know there is no such thing as earthquake season...but still...”

There will be, eventually. Unfortunately.

Matthew 24:6-8

King James Version (KJV)

6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.

8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.

One can pray that is so. A very popular Christian candidate, who is an intense pro-life politician, was passed over (because of Romney's $$$ and Gingrich's refusal to back out). Not good. And now folks are skewering Akin, who ALSO came out with an intense pro-life message (no one listens to what he said in its entirety; just his gaffe)... Christ will not be mocked.. IMO He's tired of all the killing and the passive nature by which Americans allow it concerning themselves only with the economy, etc. He's sent us help and we laugh. Which by the way, the meaning of the name Isaac (the current storm/hurricane) is "He will laugh."

Because of the prayers of the truly religious in this country this hurricane was diverted from Tampa. Perhaps God just sent a warning to the GOPe to select a different candidate. We will see if they listen.

I was stationed in Honduras in 2001 when there was a 7.6 off the coast of El Salvador. We choppered in to coordinate the humanitarian assistance. The damage was incredible. The building codes (if there are any) allow for shacks to be built up the side of hills. It was horrible.

Starting to board up the house this morning.
Ain't the first time, probably won't be the last.

I’ve been wondering why no cartoons, jokes or stories in the media about the evil David Axelrod with the huricanne and earthquake machine. It’s probably that they just don’t think he’s as powerful as Rove. /sarc

I am in Texas but just interested in earthquakes and hurricanes.

Then you might enjoy this.

EARTHQUAKE 3D. Imagine seeing earthquakes WORLDWIDE all at the same time. Imagine being able to control the magnitude of quakes shown, or the time period, or ZOOM IN and OUT. Imagine being able to tell the MAGNITUDE with a quick look. Imagine being able to see the PATTERNS.

Go to the link, download the program (only 1.1 Mbytes) , unzip it and run it.

Best part, IT'S FREE.

EARTHQUAKE 3D
