Charlie Crist continues political makeover with Barack Obama endorsement
Miami Herald ^ | August 26, 2012 | Steve Bousquet

Posted on 08/27/2012 12:15:22 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

ST. PETERSBURG -- Former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, a Republican-turned-independent, continued his political makeover Sunday by endorsing President Barack Obama’s re-election and calling him “the right leader for our times.”

“President Obama has a strong record of doing what is best for America and Florida,” Crist wrote in an op-ed column in Sunday’s Tampa Bay Times, “and he built it by spending more time worrying about what his decisions would mean for the people than for his political fortunes. That’s what makes him the right leader for our times, and that’s why I’m proud to stand with him today.”

Crist praised Obama for protecting the middle class, strengthening Medicare, guiding the nation through an economic collapse, supporting public schools and investing in highways, railroads and airports, but without using the word “stimulus.”

Crist’s opinion piece is the latest in a series of political steps in which he appears to be inching closer to becoming a Democrat and potentially challenging Gov. Rick Scott in 2014. That would complete a metamorphosis for a politician who once called himself a “Reagan Republican and a “Jeb Bush Republican.”

Crist’s career crashed to a halt in 2010 when he left the Republican Party, ran for the U.S. Senate as an independent and was soundly defeated by Republican Marco Rubio.

...“An element of their party has pitched so far to the extreme right on issues important to women, immigrants, seniors and students that they’ve proven incapable of governing for the people,” Crist wrote. “Look no further than the (U.S. Rep. Todd) Akin amendment in the Republican Party platform, which bans abortion, even for rape victims. ... The truth is that the party has failed to demonstrate the kind of leadership or seriousness voters deserve.”

Every conservative in Florida knows Charlie Crist to be a charlatan and a RINO.

Nobody, and I mean nobody, on any side of any political spectrum in Florida, respects Charlie Crist.

His opinion couildn't be more irrelevant, either in Florida or out of it.

Crist is the epitome of a laughingstock...

Gag.

Yeah, that’s why he rushed to a podium to announce all the details of SEAL Team 6’s assassination of Bin Laden before any of the intel from the raid could be exploited. That’s why he put all of our intel-gathering as well as our actual men in the field in danger - all for the chance to hush the discussion of his long-form BC before the truth of it being a badly-done forgery could get its shoes tied and start being seen in the neighborhoods.

I am disgustipated by Obama and by all his brainless apologists including Charlie Crist.

I wonder if he still has that fake tan he used to sport...always looked as if it came out of some cheap instant tan bottle.

Crist, what a weezel. I am happy he got creamed in his primary against Rubio and then went down in flames in the general.

What does that Morgan and Morgan ad always end with: For the people. They can add in now: Obama’s people into that ad now.

[On behalf of Brodie & Friedman, P.A. posted in High Asset Divorce on Thursday, November 3, 2011]

a’Before the wife of the former governor of Florida married Charlie Crist in 2008, she was married to Todd Rome, the wealthy owner of a private company called Blue Star Jets. The businessman recently filed a lawsuit suing his ex-wife for child support for their teenage daughters.

Carole Rome, know now as Carole Crist, left her husband in 2007 in a high-asset divorce and married Florida’s Republican governor Charlie Crist the following year. Charlie Crist served as governor until last year.

Todd Rome has primary custody of their 13- and 15-year-old girls and claims that the child support lawsuit against Carole Crist has little to do with money. According to the filing, Carole Crist actually has no legal responsibility to pay child support. No court order ever demanded it and the jet company owner is in a position where he does not really need the support.

The Blue Star Jets executive says the suit is to bring attention to the fact that the former first lady abandoned her children by cutting off contact with them.

Rome, who has remarried, asserts that Carole Crist has not offered any financial support for her children nor has she stayed in touch with her daughters. Reports say Crist failed to visit the teenagers for graduations and birthdays.

The former first lady of Florida has not publicly commented on the lawsuit, although the ex-governor recently touched on the subject. Charlie Crist upgraded to a larger, two-bedroom apartment in St. Petersburg recently, which he explained was to accommodate visits from his stepdaughters. It will be interesting to see how the courts decide on this child custody matter.”

Brit Hume: Fading Charlie Crist ‘kind of sad really’ | The Daily Caller

In an op-ed in Sunday’s Tampa Bay Times, former Florida Republican Gov. Charlie Crist endorsed President Barack Obama. But Fox News political analyst Brit Hume said on Monday that Republicans are “not at all upset.”
“Charlie Crist really is yesterday’s man in the state of Florida, and I think certainly nationally where he was once thought to have some ambitions and prospects,” said Hume. “Jon, I would say that his announcement for Obama falls clearly under the heading of things the world will little note nor long remember because he established a reputation here in Florida as being an extremely flexible politician. He was once thought to be a conservative Republican, now apparently he’s a liberal Democrat. It’s been a migration that has taken a number of years and it was marked by a number of political setbacks by him. He’s not a big figure anymore.”

In 2004 then-Democratic Georgia Sen. Zell Miller gave a fiery speech before RNC delegates in New York City, but Hume said that Crist’s switch in party loyalty was different.

“Zell Miller was a conservative, he was a Democrat, and at that stage there still were conservative Democrats around. But most of them have moved to the Republican Party, which required a party shift, but not a principle shift for them. So, Zell Miller’s presence was a symbol of a shift in the fortunes of the Democratic Party in the South … This is a different matter with Charlie Crist of course who was once a conservative and is now apparently a full-blown liberal.”

In 2010 Crist was initially the front-runner for the GOP Senate nomination in Florida. When his GOP bid flopped, Crist ran as an independent candidate, but was defeated by Marco Rubio.

“I guess he ran as an independent against Marco Rubio after losing to him in the primary and went nowhere. His star really had begun to fade. It’s kind of sad really,” Hume said.

Thanks JulieRNR21.

Crist is an opportunist - for sale to the highest bidder. That isn't "sad" it's far too common in politics - follow the money and the love of power and you'll find a lot of unprincipled people like Charlie C.
